I got some wool from World of Wool to do some beginner projects as I'm new to this but the smell.... is insane. The wool all smells strongly of sheep. I mean, as expected, it is sheep after all. I attempted to try out wet felting and made a ball but being wet enhanced the smell SO much that it's even stuck to my hands now. The smell is very noticeable, like it's giving me a headache from how strong it is noticeable. The smell persists even when dry. I'd like to give away some of my projects as gifts without it stinking up someones house. How do you guys wash your wool to get rid of, or at the very least, reduce how strong the smell is? Preferably in a pet safe way.
Can you tell what Sanrio character is this? 😆 Some people can't tell.
I was just putting a bit of wool on the chest to smooth it out but now I kind of dig the whole bikini/ mustache thing. I have some logks left
Thoughts?
Jo Gardiner workshop last weekend, first ever felt and now I’m addicted, my wools arrived yesterday!
I’ve been trying to get the hang of needle felting for a while now, and for the life of me I just cannot get my projects to look even similar to the pattern images. Shaping just eludes me. I can make spheres, and that’s pretty much it. What am I doing wrong? I’m stabbing at an angle and not stabbing too deep. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos and read a ton of websites. I just can’t seem to make shapes! Every time I try to make an oval or anything other than a sphere, it comes out wrong.
I have a succulent kit, and I really want to make them look nice, but I just can’t seem to make the shapes.
I’ve included an image of the kit. Can anyone help me figure out what I’m doing wrong? Any tips on how exactly I’m supposed to shape the wool into the proper shapes?
Hi, I'm pretty new to needlefelting, and I have a project I'm planning that requires a bit of a shinier/more satin-y finish to look right.
So far the only kind of fiber I've seen that fits the bill for the look I'm going for is bamboo roving, but I've heard that it's harder to work with and more slippery. Are there any others that might have similar look? Or would it just be better to figure out a way to "polish" the project, i.e. with a glossy glue or something?
Thank you for any answers!
Edit for more information: the project in question is a top hat--I'm going to be essentially 2d felting some designs onto a prefelt base, then wrapping it around the base of the top hat, just in case that changes the answer at all.
My entry for our library’s annual Tiny Art Show!
I always feel like everyone has a smoother finished project than I can manage myself. I even use a sweater shaver, and it still doesn't look as crisp to me as some I'm seeing. Any advice?
His name is Leo and I made him for my first great niece. Not an original name, but it suits him.✌️
Still thinking it needs something. Maybe an embellishment. But I’m happy with it I used denim as my canvas.
