We are now on ultrafast 800/40Mbps, since upgrading from superfast plan of 250/21Mbps, are current modem router link ax 5400 hybrid wifi 6 gives us the 800 download but never goes past 21Mbps upload was hoping new plan would increase.
We have at least 18 devices on wifi including 3 wifi cameras that had to be set on a wifi extender, no option to use cords on devices without long cables running on floor, Phones, laptops seem to slow down loading internet pages occasionally, also when on PlayStation my ping will randomly jump around every 15-30 min then be ok again for few hours back to jumping around no real pattern.
Ive contacted iiNet 4 times now to see if could be resolved but they claim its not issue on their side, and issue will be sorted after turning modem off then on, not helped at all. The 25m cat6 Ethernet cord I do have for gaming, seems to less stable then the using the 5g wifi channel.
I actually bought a TP link deco x50 mesh setup few weeks ago, as there is a setup guide on iinets support page, but after a long week and half of painful fails to get internet connection working on them, I returned in frustration, had called the iiNet support lines multiple times a day during setup attempts and now I'm thinking that I wasn’t given me the correct login details to PPPoE, seemed iiNet new less than I did about setting it up.. So these are my questions
1.Should I try the same deco x50 or another Mesh, If so what brand etc, Or is current modem router enough, and might be some other issue.
Is the PPPoE login and password details the same login as IiNet toolbox page, as I was told from support its just your account login not the @iinet.net.au part, also tried the login details I found on current modem router through using webpage 192.168.1.1, but there was nothing saying it was for PPPoE, the login and password I found in old modem settings under internet connection, it had a completely different password to iinet toolbox, the login was same user account name but had the full @iinet.com.au after it compared to the iiNet toolbox login page that only goes of user account name. I never tried the toolbox password with old modem login, but not sure any of those are what needed.
Do you think these changes could improve the the upload speed and download connectivity.
Sorry if this makes no sense, or hard to understand im not very good with this stuff and the iiNet support team have made it even harder for me to understand, any help on questions would be appreciated.
I’ve entered a new lease for an office that said it had nbn but when I moved in the black nbn box was missing. I contacted vodafone and they said they would send one out 2 weeks ago.
I keep contacting Vodafone to ask for tracking or an update and they keep saying a request has been raised on the 3rd and it will be delivered in 24-48 hours. They have been repeating the same thing all week. The office doesn’t have someone there during usual business hours and since I don’t have tracking I have no idea if the box has even been sent.
Any advice on how I can actually get this nbn box so I can get my internet set up? I have no idea if it has even been sent.
Trying to do fibre upgrade via Leaptel , First NBN tech come, said need access to other unit so can do the job, end up cancel the process because he said he cannot do it without permission and access from other unit garage Now i have it, the second NBN technician coming and said its completetly different job, and need to do it different day as need to call out truck etc I dont know, different person different process and now i end up without internet for weeks Now got PRD which 30/1/ 2025, said that work can be done between few days ago to the PRD
How long i expect to wait them complete the job? This is frustating as we cannnot order interim system as their system dont allow us to order once the upgrade went through
I’m in the process of changing my parents NBN from Telstra to another provider
They have one of these white Telstra smart modems and wondering if it’s locked exclusively to Telstra or can it be used with other providers
Trying to avoid getting a new router if I can recycle what they have already
They have FTTC NBN
TIA
Had my WNTD upgraded yesterday, guy said it was V4-B or something and they'd only got them last week. It's mounted horizontally rather than vertically like the V3.
Haven't seen too many speedtest results for this on here so I thought I'd share to give people an idea of how big a difference this makes. The speeds are unreal, sat around 250-300mbps download last night during peak hours (we'll see if that lasts when more of my neighbours sign up to these plans).
The biggest difference is latency, particularly loaded latency. Upload/download used to be 150-250ms and it meant if a couple of 4k streams were going in the house gaming was impossible.
$89 a month from Leaptel, they organised the install within a week. If it's available to you, I highly recommend you order their promo offer (or through your provider of choice that isn't Telstra, Optus or Vodafone) and get the install done. This is the first time fixed wireless has genuinely impressed me.
Hey guys,
I need some help with my wifi booster. I am currently with Optus Plus Everyday Fast NBN plan, currently getting circa 110mb/s Download and 18.5mb/s upload (best I could get in my apartment).
The Optus Modem is located upstairs, and my home office is located downstairs; with my PC not being able to connect to the Modem directly (super weak signal), I opted to buy a Netgear AC750. After setting this up correctly and changing the SSID to the same name as the original signal (which did help the speed a little), I am now successfully connected to the internet downstairs, but at a measly 8- 13mb/s download and 1.8mb/s upload.
I have tried to Google some better options such as a better booster, even bridging the internet via another modem downstairs (I am unable to run the ethernet that long) and I am at whits-end and I do not know what to do.
I have read that the speeds would have a 30% decrease from a direct connection, but a 90% drop is pretty ridiculous.
Would anyone have any advice on how to get the internet speed up via the booster? Or should I just be happy that I have an internet connection?
Thank you
Hey all,
Recently just had a NBN certified electrician/ cabler come in to do the internal conduit in the rental we are at as the landlords wanted it in the garage and NBN asked we have conduit. Problem is the tech did the conduit on the outside and into the roof and once inside the roof just ran the cable through without conduit and fed it down the wall. He ran the fibre optic himself at left 2 ends, 1 in the garage and 1 outside which essentially means the NBN just need to install the relevant hardware and finish those connections.
I know this isn’t to spec, so I suppose I have 2 questions:
Will the fibre optic be fine in the ceiling without conduit (bar the potential rodent eating the cable).
Will NBN techs check for internal conduit or will they be happy their jobs been 80% done for them and just finish the connections off?
Moving to new house and signed up with exetel. It’s a highset house with the nbn connection on the lower level. Full house is around 228sqm. I plan to have the lower level as an entertainment area(smart tv, ps5 etc). The upper level will be mostly using the wifi.
I have been seeing things about mesh systems but am new to this and not sure what is best for my situation. Budget would be $5-600.
Any help is appreciated thanks
I recently moved into a new house and am having internet troubles. The house has a Ethernet port in the wall so I presumed the old owners had internet, however, I plug my router into the port and I am not getting any internet connection.
I'm under the impression that this isn't an ISP issue and it's a hardware/connection issue. What are my next steps in getting this resolved and testing whether I even have a working NBN connection?
My NBN has been out since around 10am AEDT. I have tried contacting support to no avail. Their site says there are no outages but a couple of outage websites show multiple people with issues. I'm near Melbourne.
So just wondering if it's a SpinTel issue as it seems, because I have checked most things on my end and they seem fine, no one else around me seems to have lost NBN, but they aren't with SpinTel.
Hi, I’m really needing some help with my internet situation. I really don’t understand how this all works so please be kind!
I live in a 2 story house and we have FTTP NBN. The NBN box is downstairs and we have a modem and router upstairs in the main part of the house (cord through the roof/floor).
We are with TPG which has such horrendous customer service. Anytime we try to contact them about our wifi dropping out, they either have us on hold for 2+ hours or say that everything with our wifi is fine, never providing any actual advice.
We experience very frequent drop outs. We have a modem/router that is about 2-3 years old. We recently bought an additional router thinking this might help, but it’s gotten worse.
We live in Mackay QLD which is regional but we live close to the CBD.
Can anyone please answer these questions for me:
Would changing internet providers improve our internet or is NBN just NBN and provider doesn’t make a difference? I know you can get different plans with different speeds, but more so with the dropping out situation? When our wifi rarely wants to work, it can be quite fast around 90mbps downloads.
Is our modem/router situation the problem? Do we need a new modem? If so, which modem is recommended at an affordable price? Do we need a router in addition to a modem and vice versa?
Thank you in advance.
So we just built a house and got our Internet connected through AGL. We are a family of 4 mostly but sometimes have 6-7 ppl here. We are gamers so I had Ethernet connections built in the rooms and in our main games room ect 8 in total. We paid to have the internet upgraded whilst building. We just can't seem to connect to the internet all the time. We get connection fail, or we will connect and it's says, connected no internet connection. Sometimes we can connect but then get booted off all the time. Has anyone had the same issue? AGL says everything looks good on their end, I'm using a new router and new cords. I'm using the ASUS DSL-AX82U. As I don't have DSL ( no land line ) does this matter?
I've moved into a new place with opticomm.
Currently waiting a few days for the ISP to send out a supported router as my existing one had no PPPoe setting to handle the new connection.
In the mean time, does anyone know if it's possible to connect a PC directly to the LAN1 port and have an internet connection?
Any NBN providers that use centrepay I prefer not to use Telstra or leaptel is there any other ones
I'm on FTTP, with Telstras 250Mbps Plan. I've got a Telstra Smart Gen 3 modem at the NBN box at the front of the house. Wifi stretches to about 2/3rds of the house. The modem is plugged into a 40 Port 100Mbps switch, with ethernet ports throughout the house. I use a TP link wifi extender to cover the range at the rear of the house that the modem cannot cover. I've got a shed/man cave down the back yard. An ethernet port comes out into the shed, with an ethernet to wifi adapter there.
It's pretty janky as the house, the rear of the house, and the shed are all on different wifi access points. The speed through the ethernet cables isn't great with the 100Mbps bandwidth. There might be a problem with the ethernet line to the shed too because sometimes it doesnt work well. (The ethernet line is under concrete and gardens and Im not sure how to get to it to change it out.)
Ideally I'd like to have the same wifi access point across the house and the shed, and I'd like to get wifi in my backyard, about 30m from the rear of the house. I'd like to have faster speeds through the ethernet cables. I'd like to be able to ditch the ethernet port in the shed and just use wifi (Wifi doesn't seem to punch through the tin of the shed.)
Not sure if all of this is possible or what the simplest solution is, but I'm hoping to hear some good ideas.
Hi there,
I've just had NBN contractors leave my place after failing to complete installation. They apparently need to come back another day, because they need to run the line under the patio (which is concrete) and don't have the tools for the job.
They also mentioned there is no conduit between where the outside box will go and the inside box will go. It would hypothetically go through the roof, but apparently they cannot climb onto patio roofs for health/safety reasons. I obviously have serious doubts about whether this is true. Regardless, you could climb onto the roof from entry points other than the patio, so this seems absurd. They advised that I would need to hire an electrician to create this conduit.
My question, basically, is: is this legitimate? Do I need to hire an electrician to create a conduit, or is that not part of the standard NBN installation process?
Storm hit Sunday. NBN box won't power on. Called ISP immediately that night to book NBN technician to replace the box. Wednesday, still no confirmation of appointment.
Is this a normal wait time at the moment? (SEQ)
Cheers.
Hi All, Im moving to a two storey house currently connected with FTTN but will be upgrading to FTTP.
I've only ever used the telstra modems and am wanting to confirm that I don't need a separate modem for FTTP, just a router?
Im also intending to connect with Superloop or Leaptel on a 1000mb plan, any recommendations on ISP quality and mesh Wifi7 routers? Currently tossing up between the Eero 7 and TP-Link Deco BE65 Pro (both 2 packs), budget is roughly $1000. Im sold on wifi7 as I have 30+ connected devices, 7 of which are wifi7 compatible.
We have fairly constant streaming and gaming requirements for 5 people.
Thanks for the help!!
Hi all - there are currently excavators / boring machines etc in my street installing NBNCo fibre. My current internet service is FTTN, but i assume FTTH will be available in the near future. Does NBNCo / my provider just swap me over to FTTH or do i need to order a new service, or submit a request to be swapped over ? What happens after the fibre goes in ?
Thanks !
Signed up last friday with Aussie and they sent out the eero+ modems yesterday. Fantastic service so far but i have nowhere in the house to connect Lan cable that came with modems. I'm in a rental that has never had the nbn on, and am able to access HFC supposedly. How do I connect? Any help appreciated.
Update: Aussie said there sending a black box my way today. Thanks for the replies and help, much appreciated.
Very unreliable connection and a 36 month lock in contract.
For a service thats incredibly dependant on your location it doesnt make sense to have an inflexible contract.
Cancellation is also a nightmare no online cancellation option and forcing you to have to pay $455 ( you can appeal this charge if you can prove your service is untenable over the phone or report to TIO ombudsman ornconsumer protection)
Optus, At least give users some time to test their connection before locking them in for 3 years
