There’s a lady that works drive through, I’m sure she’s lovely. But, holy sweet lord, the first syllable of her initial greeting is ear drum piercing. Gets me every time. Does anyone else have this experience?
To the white guy in his 20’s wearing an orange jumpsuit prisoner Halloween costume that crossed by my bf and I in the parking lot at maffeo Sutton park tonight, that shouted the N word twice at my biracial boyfriend tonight completely unprovoked and randomly, fuck you. Doesn’t matter if you were drunk or what, we didn’t even say a word to you, just walked past.
My boyfriend is half white half black with an Afro, and we moved from Van to Nanaimo in may and since living here he’s encountered much more racism than in Vancouver. Really making us regret moving here. I grew up on the island and take pride in islanders being good people but it’s becoming clear to me that it’s not that way as I thought. People need to do better.
Hey everyone!
We're excited to announce a new initiative in the r/Nanaimo subreddit to help our community grow and thrive! We have been seeing a growing interest in users sharing skills and services, and thought it would be better to have them all located in one spot, rather than randomly throughout the subreddit.
To keep things organized and easy to find, please let's use this thread for all service advertisements.
What services/skills can you share?

So, while a small few of us are up in arms about the AAP spending, has anyone noticed that our city just dropped over half a million dollars to build an obnoxious pickleball complex in one of our parks?
Yeah, you read that right. A loud, intrusive ‘sport’ with an even sillier name is now setting up shop to fill our parks with its relentless THWACK THWACK THWACK. Who thought this was the best use of taxpayer money?
Think of what we could have done with $530K instead! How about a community kitchen where we could all come together to make Nanaimo bars. We could’ve built a “Forest of Hammocks” for ultimate relaxation, a “Mini Museum of Oddities” filled with local artifacts, or even a downtown “Puppy Petting Park.” Anything that actually enhances our city rather than filling it with this relentless plastic paddle noise!
If you think Nanaimo deserves better, shoot an email to city hall. Let them know that we should be prioritizing projects that genuinely benefit our whole community, not just the paddle-swinging paddle heads.
Got a bunch of candy just want to make sure where ready! Happy Halloween and stay safe out there y'all.
Is "Shady Mile" still a thing along Jinglepot?
It's been a minute or two since I've seen Halloween in Nanaimo - do people still take their Jack-o-lanterns out to Shady Mile after?
I would really like to join up with a group of folks that meditate and discuss new age type ideas and teachings without having too dogmatic of a belief structure.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!!
Hi all --
I am a PhD candidate at UBC's School of Nursing and am conducting this research as a part of my dissertation. We are interested in understanding more about the way that we talk about contraceptives and how that might impact contraceptive care. At this time, we are recruiting cisgender women and people who can get pregnant to participate in arts-based research to discuss their experiences with controlling their fertility and/or contraceptive care. Participants will be asked to create a collage related to contraceptive care and experiences which will then guide a one on one virtual interview. Supplies for the collage can be mailed. An honorarium is provided.
Please see the attached poster for more information regarding inclusion criteria and what to do if you are interested. If you have any further questions, please contact me at kermar@student.ubc.ca
Please note: We are also recruiting health care providers that currently prescribe contraceptives in British Columbia. If you are interested in participating as a health care provider, please see the following link.
Going to ask gp to send me to a neurologist or rhumetologist for migraines and widespread pain for years now. Who are the best specialists for this?
Our Telus plan is expiring. We currently have internet and basic cable TV and were paying $100 all in/month. Now with the contract ending, it is over $200/month. I phoned them up and they had no other offers for me.
Though we have been with Telus for years, we are willing to switch if we can find the right deal. I know there are internet resellers out there (ie. Oxio) and we would be happy with one of them, but would like to find one that is already using Telus wires (as opposed to Shaw/Rogers). Our reason being is that our old house is not wired for Rogers/Shaw, our basement is a gong show, and I don't want the hassle of having some technician coming in and being up in my business all over our basement etc.
Is there a TELUS reseller I could use that would be pretty simple/straightforward since we already have Telus in our house? We are in south Nanaimo.
Cheers!
Hi Nanaimo, saw protestors with "No AAP" signs along Metral Ave today. Anyone know what this is about?
What’s up with the blast sounds all afternoon in Cassidy area? Blasting? Using the good ol’ sawed off? What’s the sitch?
I've been thinking of starting a home companion business catered to a variety of ages though I know mostly elderly folks would be interested.
Like hire a friend or hire a grandchild type of thing.
Basically, I come to your home to hangout and do crafts or whatever hobbies you enjoy, or I meet you and we go for a walk and talk about whatever you want to, go out for a coffee, whatever really (no NSFW).
Could be for lonely people, mentally unwell people that struggle to make friends but desire human relationships, for elderly people that dont have family nearby, executives that work too much and dont make time to find friends but want human connection, etc.
No medical care would be offered, just pure, goodhearted companionship.
Thoughts?
After reading a post about rents in Nanaimo. I looked up the rent vs. Gross income suggested ratio. 30% is the suggested amount of Gross income that should go towards rent. Is anyone getting close to that ratio? If you are working a full time job at minimum wage you could afford about 800$ per month.
Hey everyone, I was hoping to make a Van trip with my fam (3 of us) and we were debating taking the hullo ferry for the first time. Could anyone familiar with the ferry be able to tell me how laxed it is to get a ticket? We’re going there and back on a Monday, should we buy reservations online well in advance? Is it ok just to go to the terminal and buy tickets the day we’re going?
I could not believe how crazy busy it was and gas was the same price at the PetroCan at Nanoose. Is it always like that? Why so busy?
Hi everyone!
I have a 2 bedrooom, 1 bathroom, furnished rental unit that I'm looking to sublet with my landlords approval available November 1st.
Rent is $1,900 includes internet, and it's located in a great neighborhood, utilities is split 50/50 with the landlord above who is so friendly!
I don't have Facebook so grasping at straws here to try and get someone in here asap. If you or you might know someone interested please let me know!
ETA: this is more of an assignment than a sublet, I didn't realize these were 2 different things! I will not be returning to take over the lease, so terms are negotiable with the landlord!
Let me know your favs.
The best one I am aware of is this one on Groveland.

STATUS UPDATE
After i posted i realised i have a old buddy from high school who owns/operates his own towing business and i explained the situation, first he stated essentially every reply ive gotten, but added that because of the dynamics of how the whole thing transponded down to a vehicle being sent for scrap, which was verified by the towing company that essentiwlly said not my problem and i need to go talk to the, property owners.. thats the catch, the tow company was contacted by one of the tennants of the rental unit and not the actual owner of the property which is a first nations band. That the tow companie has actually broken the law by not confirming that infact it was the owner of the porperty who requested the tow based on the vehicle being abandoned there for 2 years, which isnt true also and there are rrcorded conversations talking about when the vehicle was parked there, essentially theres a fine line towards is tjis considered theft and destruction of property via tow company or the tennants get theft over 5000, possible black mail, by saying they lost the keys and over a 6 month spam of looking couldmt find them.. i have a appointment with a a rcmp officer and bylaw officer tomorrow
Ive bern trying to find information in regards to the laws and regulations around tow companies/towing laws/acts And cant find anything that isnt related to a vehicle impoundment, anyone have a clue on where i can find info on when a vehicle is removed from private property by a tow company WITHOUT any notification or AUTHORIZATION or contact from the registered owner?
Title is self explanatory, will be out of town from November 1-6 and I need to park close to Departure Bay for as cheap as possible. Any suggestions?
i have a 2002 honda civic coupe i’m looking to trade, very good sound system and lots of life left
Does anyone know if Venow 3 is leaving theatre's already?I can't find any showtimes for it this weekend.

Does anyone know what's going on on Madsen by the BC Ferry building?
They seem to be flushing a pipe or something, but it's been going on for about a week. I also can't find anything on the city website.
