From a quick search on amazon i found out that most use ethanol/water. Is there sources that use apolar solvents?
Or is there really just ethanol/water around and the apolar solvents would be overkill ?
In reading through posts, a lot of people recommend Oriveda CCCE. If someone is unable or unwilling to spend $40 a month on a supplement, is there much benefit to taking one capsule a day as opposed to the recommended three a day?
I currently use all of Orivedas mushroom supplements and would like to know if I could be doing any harm or damage to myself (liver, kidney, immune system, etc.)
After breakfast i take: Lion’s Mane Cordyceps Chaga Homeostasis CCCE Blend
After Dinner i take: Turkey Tail Maitake ABM Reishi
Please let me know if i should be cautious or stop taking certain supplements. Aside from this I just eat whole natural foods and only drink water. I really appreciate your insight.
I started taking a Lion's Mane tincture last year and it changed my life. Now I've been reading that tinctures aren't the best way to get the benefits, and they are very expensive. What I've really enjoyed is that I can just put it in my drink the night before and lately have been making ice cubes with the dosage and it's so easy to just put it in my coffee in the morning. I love it. I"ve found in the past pills don't work for me because I will forget to take them. What would be the best way to get the effects and be able to do the same ice cube method? Dissolving a powder? If anyone has tried both, do powders have a more potent taste?
I'm seeking advice on using chaga as an antiviral for skin diseases such as psoriasis, acne, and eczema. I assume an extract is more potent than chaga powder? However, I don't know what criteria to use in my product search (for a product available in the UK and so avoiding shipping costs).
How significant are extraction ratios? I've seen comments on here on a 100:1 extraction ratio, but with no indication on their website as to how that ratio is calculated. Inflated extraction ratios seem to be a common issue in the mushroom supplement industry, particularly with high-demand products like chaga. Some brands seem to base ratios on fresh weight (90% water) instead of dried weight, use mycelium on grain instead of fruiting bodies, or add fillers.
Some mislead with terms like "equivalent to", use low-quality extraction methods, or manipulate lab tests. Others misrepresent wild-harvested vs. cultivated chaga or use non-standard testing to inflate active compound levels.
So, to obtain high potency and safe and effective treatments are these the things to check?:
1 Fruiting Body Only: made exclusively from chaga fruiting bodies, with no mycelium or grain fillers
2 Dual Extraction: extraction process use both hot water and alcohol to ensure full-spectrum potency, capturing both water-soluble (e.g., beta-glucans) and alcohol-soluble (e.g., triterpenes) compounds
3 Standardization: extract standardized for specific levels of beta-glucans and triterpenes?
4 Third-Party Testing: third-party lab-tested for purity, potency, and contaminants with Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for reviewThe extraction ratio
Is there anything I should add, and can anyone recommend a product that meets my criteria please?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been looking into different extraction methods for Lion’s Mane, and I came across supercritical CO2 extraction. From what I have been told is that there the key neurotrophic effects of Lion’s Mane come from hericenones (mainly C-E), and some research suggests that their bioactive effects actually stem from deacylated derivatives after enzymatic conversion in the duodenum.
What intrigues me is that supercritical CO2 extraction produces a highly concentrated liquid extract that is rich in non-polar and slightly polar compounds like hericenones, hericenes, and some polyphenols. Since it's in a liquid form and highly lipophilic, it mixes well with oils**.** However, this method doesn’t extract polysaccharides, which are often emphasized in traditional extracts.
Interestingly, analyses of this extract have been conducted by Dr. Wojciech Krzyczkowski, apparently a specialist in Lion’s Mane metabolites, using HPLC to quantify hericenones, hericenes, and ergosterol..
I’m curious to hear your thoughts—how do you think supercritical CO2 extraction compares to traditional extracts in terms of bioavailability and effectiveness? Have any of you tried this type of extract, and if so, what was your experience?
Would love to hear your insights!
New to this sub! I just bought Purana Lions Mane at Whole Foods (Vancouver based company). I’m aware of the risk of heavy metals etc, but this brand website says GMP certified. So that means third party tested, right? So it should be good, right?
I’ve heard horror stories from people taking lions mane and getting bad reactions, which I assume is from the heavy metals etc. so I want to make sure I’m getting the good stuff!
Ps. I have ADHD and on Vyvanse, looking to add to my stack if anyone has any other recommendations!
Quick to the point, I suffer from severe ADHD paralysis at times and cannot get work done.
Currently I'm also dealing with a broken foot that I'm at a 10/10 pain scale since it happened(2 days ago) anything that helps with that?

So the tracking number says my package from Modern Herb Shop arrived to east coast Canada without any issues at customs. My question is now, can they survive being frozen over nite in a PO box? Lol.
Has anybody tried this Italian brand of cordyceps? What do you guys think?
What have been peoples reishi experiences? Im thinking of adding it to my stack for anxiety but i want to learn and hear more
Hi all! Im new to mushrooms etc. Ive been taking st johns wort for depression and SAD since last summer. Tried lions mane yesterdays and reishi today. Was looking for a solution for anxiety etc. The lions mane, was interesting. Many discuss feelinf able to think better, etc, but for myself it felt that the front of my brain was full. Interested in recomendations and other lions mane experiences
Hi there.
First time poster.
I have unopened old bag from May 2021 of Oriveda’s Lions Mane that was kept in dark, cold place. Should I throw it away? Consume? If so, what signs of product going bad should I look for?
It’s tempting to still use it as I understand it’s not possible to order double extract in Europe anymore.
Thanks in advance for any help and insights.
This animal study shows again that cordycepin, the main marker compound of the Cordyceps militaris mushroom, holds promise as a natural antidepressant.
By modulating the GSK3β/β-catenin pathway and addressing metabolic imbalances, cordycepin could pave the way for novel treatments for depression, especially for individuals seeking natural alternatives.
Cordycepin treatment alleviated depression-like behavior in stressed rats, as evidenced by:

Just curious on others experience's as I'm sure I'm not alone here.
Lil mini summery; *edit: long summery of me haha. Not necessary to read I guess 🤷🏻
I've been microdosing psyilocybin mushrooms (and at time LSD-25 5-10ug/mcg, but 95% of the time it's 🍄) 0.1-0.2g (100-200mg) 2-4 days in a row a week for many years, with the odd few weeks or months off.
With that, I've added in other mushrooms aswell over the years at times. Mainly lions main mushroom and/or turkey tail mushroom extract powder, or a blended product of 5-8 kinds (mostly a waste 90% of the time unless mega dosing I know I know lol)
And as I'm sure most of you are aware, 95% of the mushroom supplements market is bs and/or over hyped bs unfortunately.. crazy how bad it is when you dig deeper and deeper..
Then there's potency... Even for the "good" companies/products like freshcap, the cordyceps is like 3% cordycepin.. and that's much better than most of the market to top it off.. yet the CCCE has about 9% and is a blend. On its own it's like 13% or something cordycepin. ( I do add lil freshcap turkey tail mushroom extract powder to my kittys food, but her main source of anticancer help is the PSP Oriveda. I'm not hating on freshcap, just there near top for quality, yet that's still pretty poor imo re potencies etc I guess is my point)
Anyways, all this to say; I bit bullet and paid the extra for the best mushroom supplements I could get after alot of research and kitty having cancer surgery (full chain mastectomy) couple yrs ago.. and I'm pretty happy with the CCCE, and as added to my microdosing magic mushrooms.
Curious on others experience's , or maybe my post may help someone 🤷🏻.
Ended up ranting a bit sry 😅😅😸
Hello, I was recently attacked and stabbed by a random man at a farmers market. I am recovering in the ICU currently. I sustained some trauma to the temple with slight bleeding on the brain. Besides doctors recommendations for medications and whatnot, I was wondering if yall had any recommendations for mushroom supplements to help my body/brain recover from all the stabs and brain injury?
Thanks so much 🥺
Has anyone purchased from UK since they relocated logistics to HK?
If so, have you been billed for VAT and/or import tax by Royal Mail or alternative carrier?
Not sure what I will buy but will be under £100.
Thamk you.
Hi guys, so I am new at MS and I have been searching for supplement brands I understood that it can be kinda expensive if I choose a legit brand.
I found Oriveda, I think it is pretty good by the reviews.
After reading their instructions on the website, each bottle lasts for at least two months.
My question is, to reduce the monthly cost, anyone with experience can tell me if I need to take it everyday to have good results, or I can just take it when I need to, for example days that I am going to study something?
Saw a couple posts here the other day saying that tinctures are ineffective because alcohol doesn't extract positive compounds. My understanding has always been while alcohol doesn't extract beta glucans it does extract other compounds that aren't able to be water extracted. obviously a pure alcohol tincture isn't ideal but dual extracts in which the mushrooms are first extracted in water and then extracted in alcohol and the liquids are combined should be the gold standard because you're getting all available compounds right? I mean that's just how I logically think about it. If anyone has more info I'd love to know more!
hello, I was wondering if someone more experienced than me minded lending him some of his time to guide me in this world of mushroom supplements.
Long story short I’m a 23 male uni student and I struggle with focus and brain fog, I’m undergoing an adhd diagnosis with my therapist too, but it will take some more time.
I wanted to create a supplement routine aimed at better brain health in general. I started knowing about lions mane and then fell into the rabbit hole of information so now I have a list, which maybe someone could help me shorten (priority made based on what I know):
-Lions mane
-reishi
-Cordyceps
-Chaga
-Turkey Tail
-Maitake
-Tremella
-Shiitake
-agaricus Blazei
Due to being a Uni student my budget isn’t high, I can stretch it to 30 euros a month maximum.
due to this I considered starting with maybe the first 3/4 on the list in powder form.
Another idea I’m keen on getting more informed is making my own extract powders, but I still want to start with already made extracts, to get an idea of how it is.
I’m probably going to also add L-Theanine to the routine. (Excluded from budget)
Planning on ordering via Antioxi.
Thanks for the attention :)
PS: I’ve already read the pinned posts and a lot of user posts made, I’m still confused and lost ahah
I found some recipe online. I pulverized the mushrooms as much as I could, then put them in a quart jar and covered them with bacardi 151. The plan is to leave them in there for 6 weeks. It's been almost 2 weeks and this is what it looks like a few minutes after shaking. I get a small dirt layer between the material and the top.
So I have a million questions but here are the ones that are most pressing on my mind
Is this looking ok?
Is 6 weeks too long?
Are there 3 layers? Or is it just the dirt on top of the mushrooms?
When I finish with the alcohol what is the best way to do a water extraction? And how should I mix them?
Where can I send a sample to be tested and how much will that cost?
Thanks for reading and for any info you can impart!
I am looking for a good brand of Turkey Tail and Reishi supplements to take to help hr hpv and abnormal cells that doesn't cost an eye and a kidney.
Real Mushrooms brand doesn't ship Turkey Tail to spain (does anyone know why is that?) and I can't afford Oriveda and am not sure if they ship here anyways. Are there any brands in europe that are 3rd party lab tested and have enough of the important compounds? I have tried doing research but honestly everything is just so overwhelming, all I know is that you need a fifty percent or more concentration of beta glucans.
Thanks for the help!
I am trying to create an 8:1 Lions Mane dual-extract powder and am confused on how I can add or subtract to the end result if the ratio is off. As I understand it, the ratio would be 8 parts dehydrated lions mane and the end result after both hot water/alcohol extraction, and freeze-dried would be one part powder. If I started with 8 lbs of dehydrated lions mane, I end up with one lb powder. How is this accomplished? If I end up producing more than 1 lb of powder how do I make it less? Less time in the heat extraction perhaps, or less time soaking in alcohol? Then opposite if I'm under 1 lb of final powder? Then if beta-glucan content is under 30 percent, but the ratio is right, what do you do then to increase beta-glucansk? I plan on forking out the cash to get it tested so I know what I'm taking is quality, but I'm just a bit confused on the whole ratio aspect and such. Any advice or help is appreciated. Thanks!
I have a few questions about making mushroom tinctures. I have powdered full extract mushrooms like Chaga, Maitake, Turkey Tail and Lion's Mane. They've all been though the hot water extraction process then powdered. Could these be made into tinctures, and would I only have to use 30% alcohol for preservation purposes? I want to make a 1:5 and each powdered extract I have 120g of. So I'm confused on the amount of water or alcohol to use. Most mushroom tinctures I've made I've done a dual extract, and I've only made reishi and cordyceps. Adding alcohol won't extract anything extra from these powdered mushrooms anymore, correct? All I need it for is preservation, so how much to add to preserve? If I want to make a 1:5 then I need 600ml total of each.
Unfortunately it looks like Oriveda is not shipping to Canada right now due to some sort of new customs policy. Wondering if anyone in Canada has had success getting them from elsewhere? I’m looking into ordering from Modern Herb Shop (US-based), would hate for it to get rejected at the border though.
I know some of these questions have been asked a million times & I have read through a million posts about it but I’d rather have my own post to reference. Quality, purity, transparency is important to me so I def want to stick with the top recommended brands that provide the 3rd party lab results.
A couple of things (& I might cross-post this in the regular supplements thread).
The rest is more geared toward other supplements so I’ll save that for my crosspost in there. Sorry for the redundancy, I know there are a lot of resources & posts in this page & like I said, I have read through/reviewed a ton of them. But it does get overwhelming & my brain always feels overloaded with information & then I can never make a decision of which direction or brand to go with. Appreciate any & all input. 🤗
I just purchased Real Mushroom supplements (it's not cheap) and came across this Trustpilot review a little too late. This post could be false, but Real Mushrooms replied to all other responses except for this one. Wondering what everyone's thoughts are...
As a lab technician with access to a spectrophotometer, I thought I'd buy your listed "Lions Mane Mushroom Formula" product for analysis.
No wonder you haven't got any laboratory accreditation on the packaging or "lack of" data sheet for its purity content as its negligible!
As a professional, I'd personally stay as far away from this product as humanly possible.
It's 78.5% sucrose filler (sugar)
11.5% Unknown compounds
&
10% Modified Mycelium (multiple variants)
This comes as no shock as everything I have tested so far off of the tiktok shops and various linked online sites via tiktok influencers claiming to be the best and highest concentration of a vitamin supplement, ADHD, PTSD wonder cures and pretty much all other "miracle health benifit supplements.
Have all yielded the same results.
You're getting nothing.
The CBD patches and oil off of tiktok shop are the only other thing that has actually beaten how bad this products" listed contents" are.
They contain 0.08% of the cannabidiol (CBD) and actually contain 34.5% (+/- 6%) of the Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
Amongst 101+ chemical fillers.
Do yourself all a favour and please research the product your buying as 9.9/10 it's going to be a fake product if purchased off or through the tiktok shop or any random not main stream medical supplier website."
Hi folks!
I am new to looking into the healing and health benefits of mushroom supplements.
What mushrooms are most beneficial for overall health?
Are there any precautions that should be taken when taking more than one mushroom supplement? Beit weakening another supplement, dangerous, etc.
Thank you in advance for any responses to this post!
My 13yo Shiba Inu mix was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and I want to get her started on turkey tail. Suggestions on brand and powder VS tincture?
Tia!
There's no way to be entirely certain, but the details line up pretty perfectly, and I'm really so surprised!
For some hopefully informative & valuable context:
I didn't expect to see any tangible evidence of Lions Mane working for me, much less so early on. I bought a bottle of capsules from RealMushrooms out of curiosity and a new found fascination with mushrooms! I took the recommended dosage given on the bottle (two capsules) midway through the day they arrived, the morning of the second day, and just this morning again.
For about a week now I've been battling a common infection from wisdom tooth growth called Pericoronitis. For the entirety of the week I haven't been able to come off of Ibuprofen without getting excruciating jaw aches, tender gums, a runny nose, ear pain, and headaches.
Taking Lions Mane for the first time, mid-day, I felt nothing and expected nothing. I hadn't even considered the improvements to look out for, or the fact that it could aid in fighting the infection I was struggling with.
The very next morning, I woke up with the same excruciating pain and immediately downed some Ibuprofen, and took the Lions Mane as well. This was the day I first noticed improvements in my symptoms, though I hadn't connected the dots just yet. Besides the morning Ibuprofen, I felt pleasantly surprised by not feeling the need to chug down anymore pills throughout the day. I was in significantly less pain! I finally saw a dentist that evening as well. Got an antioxidant prescribed and scheduled a wisdom tooth removal.
As of writing this, I'm going on day 3 of taking Lions Mane each morning. Today I woke up with virtually no pain at all. I can even touch the infected area on my gums without a surge of pain throughout my jaw and face! Note that I have not yet taken my prescribed antioxidants, haven't even received 'em. The infection has been going entirely untreated, which is why I'm inclined to believe this is the Lions Mane's doing!
Something else to note, though I have no idea if this matters at all; on day two I had just come off of a 40 hour extended fast. 🤷🏼
Overall I'm excited to continue taking these to see what other fun surprises they have in store haha. Would it also help with the pain I'll be dealing with after my surgery? Who knows! Not a big fan of the taste but damn is this cool!! Absolutely worth it. I just got my hands on Christopher Hobb's new book as well. Really looking forward to diving deeper into the world of mushrooms. What a neat little organism :')
TLDR: Was battling a rough gum infection from wisdom tooth growth for a week. Infection was untreated and pain continued to worsen. Began taking Lions Mane, not expecting or considering how it may help, and woke up to virtually no pain in my gums after only 3 days of taking the recommended dosage from RealMushrooms. Didn't connect the dots until this morning and I'm truly amazed!
