Mushroom hunting, mushrooming, mushroom picking, and similar terms describe the activity of gathering mushrooms in the wild, typically for eating. This is popular in most of Europe, including the Nordic, Baltic, and Slavic countries and the Mediterranean Basin,[citation needed] as well as in Australia, Japan, Korea, Canada, and the northwestern, northeastern, Midwestern and Appalachian United States

What should I be looking for?

I live just below Yosemite National park. I see lots of mushrooms, but not usually the choice edibles. What edible mushrooms should I be looking for and when? I’ve been looking for a while and have only found mostly toxic species.

Spots in Puerto Rico?

I’m planning on mushroom hunting for the first time by myself cuz the first time was really fun, I already go on hikes often so why not! However first time was in Vermont instead of here so it was an entirely different locale.

Only issue is that I have no clue where to really go hunting. I don’t have any interest in eating or taking them back home with me though, maybe if I find some Chanterelles or something but even then, idk if I’d really want to eat them.

So yea, if anyone knows ab good spots nearby, lmk!

good, relatively up to date field guide for western PA?

hi! I go to university in western PA and live near some parks and forested areas, this year my interest in mushroom identification and hunting has grown and I am tempted to go hunting and become a hobbyist when the season arrives. Any recommendations for good field guides? They don’t have to be the most beginner friendly as I am already a life sciences student well into my major with prior experience identifying plants, which I hope will allow me to understand slightly more technical guides. tysm!

How do you find your spots?

To clarify: I’m not looking for anyone’s precious hunting grounds. But I’d like tips for how you find them. I don’t have mushroom friends who can point me in the right direction. Is it just a matter of getting into the woods until you get lucky?
