Hi fellow growers
I've just taken over this sub and would like to bring it back to life
If you have experience cultivating mushrooms and/or moderating subs, leave a comment below and let's have a chat
So im a complete rookie when it comes to mycology so I'm working with grow bags since I'm so inexperienced, I have a few questions, so it's very cold where I live so I bought seedling mats to sit my bags on and have them set for 74°, after they sit a while I get a LOT of condensation inside of the bags, is that okay? I'm asking because it's taking FOREVER for these bags to do anything, I have 12 bags going since 01/26 and none of them are even close to being colonized so I was wondering if this condensation might be a variable as to why. Second question, I have all my bags inside of a Martha tent, its just a regular tent no humidifier and no fan, just the seedling mats, I read somewhere that they should be stored away from direct light and be able to "breath", with all of them being inside of an air-tight tent do you think they're not getting the proper air that they need and this could be the reason it's taking so long to colonize? Should I take them out of the tent and just store them in the closet and only use the tent for when it's time to fruit them? Sorry for all the questions here, I'm just trying to figure out what exactly I'm doing wrong, I'm seeing so many people getting fully colonized bags within 1 to 2 weeks and here I am coming up on a month and still have nothing.. any information and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank yall.
Hi folks,
I recently started growing Trametes versicolor / Turkey Tail spawn to inoculate saw dust bags with. The smell of the spawn has a strong sulfury smell after 4-5 weeks. I mixed it with Sawdust and there seems to be brown primordia forming, still needs more time to fruit. Is this sulfury smell normal for Turkey Tail ? First time working with it.
A colleague and I were intending to prepare a variety of agar plates today using LMEA, nutritional yeast, honey, and PDA solutions. Unfortunately I forgot to grab the dextrose on my way out the door. As a homebrewer, I have the stuff coming out of my ears.
What I would like to know is if I can use regular granulated sugar as a replacement for the dextrose? While it works as a slightly inferior replacement in beer brewing, I'm not sugar about its efficacy in agar. I would greatly appreciate any assistance!
This is my second time ever growing mushrooms and my first time was a fail when it came to dehydrating them, but this time I dried my Golden Teachers for around 20 hours yesterday, and i put them in a jar after i thought they were cracker dry, but when i checked on them today they have become soft and bendable rather than cracker dry.
Is this normal and if not what do I do?
Hey all! I have prints of Mukitaki, honey mushrooms and coral tooth. Swabs of Honduran rotan, Amazon, mazatapec, and natty super strain. Lookin for weirdos to add to my collection: yeti, torque f2, shakti blue, gorilla wizard, tazmanian, giant pearl aand so on & so on..
These pics are 8 days post innoculation with Koh Samui spores. It seems kind of quick for growth already from what I've heard, so I'm unsure if this is mycelium or bacteria. Can someone please help shed some light? Thanks!
Is hickory a good wood for growing medicinal and or psilocybe mushrooms?
Harvested about a week ago and soaked the cake, didn’t leave it to dry at all. It’s starting to pin at the sides and I’m worried it will affect maximum growth, anything I can do?
Just harvested my first flush ever today, looking for advice on next steps.
I plan on cloning a mushroom and also going for a second flush. Do I use this clone for the second flush? If not how to I proceed?
Hello Mycophiles!
I have a big maple tree that is growing too close to my house, so I am going to have it taken down.
I am wondering if I could just have the crown chopped off and then inoculate the stem with oyster mushroom spores.
Can any of you provide me with guidance on this? Would it work? How long would it take to produce a flush? Any other considerations I should be aware of?
Thank you!!
I am growing some golden teachers and I have 2 big ones, maybe 5 medium ones then lots of pins. Can I expect these to grow fully or will they stay as pins?
A friend and I are doing our first grow of GT strain PC's. We inoculated a sterilized grain bag with a spore syringe and it took forever to inoculate, I don't think the strain is particularly vigorous. Like over 8 weeks and it still wasn't terribly white with mycelial growth, but there was significant enough growth throughout that we went ahead and spawned to bulk with pre purchased sterilized substrate into a monotub about 2 weeks ago.
At this point, the substrate appears to be about 25% colonized and it's freakin trying to fruit. There's one tiny mushroom and a bunch of pins on the 25% that is colonized. WTF? It's been kept in a 72 degree room with a towel over it to insulate and block light and has a couple filter patches over the holes but most of the holes are taped over.
What do we do at this point? Will the mycelium continue to fill in the substrate even as it begins fruiting?
I've had success in the past with the 66qt tubs.
I have space to install a shelf that could hold 4 66qt tubs OR I could do 2 ~120qt tubs.
I want to automate much of the process with humidity, temperature, and CO2 control. Larger tubs would be more cost effective in that regard.
What are some pro's and con's in doing a bigger tub if conditions are ideal and I take all the precautions on cleanliness and sanitation?
These photos are one week after putting pink oyster LC (two plates with lots of growth) and golden teacher spores (3 plates with little growth) on agar in a sterile environment (SAB with everything including myself sprayed with 70% isopropyl). I have done research but being so new I feel very uncertain identifying contamination. Any insight is very much appreciated.
Inoculated 12/18, mycelium was running very strong after the first day. Do I mix up the fruiting block now that it’s about 50-60% colonized? Thanks guys
Hey, this is my first time growing, and I have some questions I need some help with
Little info on what my set up involves, I bought a started kit from North Spore on Amazon, the grain bag that I innoculated is 3 pounds, I have 3 Five pound bags of substrate and I have a bag of coco coir, the first question is how much substrate do I use for my grain? 2) how long will it take for it to colonize the substrate? (approximately) 3) how long will fruiting take? (Golden teacher). I am planning to leave on the 14th (Thursday) for holidays and I wouldn't be able to tend to the grow for roughly a month (+/-) and I am wondering what I should do with the grain bag.
Edit: one more thing I’ve noticed what looked like a tiny mushroom inside the grain bag and it completely greenish, is my grain ruined or can I salvage it? Everything else inside looks slightly alright
started an all in one back about 2 months ago, and I had approximately one good flush. after that, it was very slow and Slim. I don't know when to discard somebody. Please help me. I broke them in 2 to see if they were contaminated, but everything looks well. I have a shoebox going, and then I also had a little tub that I took out because of side pens
Got a little fuzziness in the bottom of my lc Jar after the pressure cooker cycle
I always used www.southernshroomery.com It was the best I found what about you
due to where im located , liquid culture isn’t really an option. i looked up some youtube videos on how to create it and seemed simple. i rehydrated the mycelium and transferred onto an agar plate. i made sure to use distilled water and a lot of 70% alcohol. i am aware of contamination but i’m not sure for what to look for. is there anyone with experience that can guide me in what to lookout for or at least how contamination looks like.
tips and suggestions are neeeeded !!!
Trying my hand at cultivation! Pink pearl oysters! Got a monotub going with fullly colonized grain spawn layered then mixed with bulk substrate! Hope it works!
Nuby to gourmet mushrooms:- I have buckets and monotubs. Will they grow ok in monotubs (No bags). Or do I need to grow them both in buckets with holes.
Thank you wise ones.
So idk whats happening but I did soak this in cold water for like 10 hours then put it in the bag and grew it and I thought it would be covered in mycelium but it's only bits and only few mushrooms pinned, I've seen people having the whole thing covered with mushrooms, I do use a heat mat and a heat guard cos in the UK it's a bit cold.
What type of morels would be best for Pennsylvanias zone 7?
