Hi, I'm looking for an adult municipal soccer league in Mount Vernon or a nearby town. Does anyone know of a regular game that takes place in the evenings or on the weekends? Indoor or outdoor would both be fine. Doesn't have to be a formal league, if anyone knows of a park or gym where you can show up to play soccer that would work too!

Jeez, Ohio's liquor laws are so outdated and draconian... any news that you've heard on when Mt Vernon will get a liquor store, or even if a new liquor license has been applied for and/or approved by the state?

I’m a 20yo. Male looking for jobs with little experience that aren’t fast food related. I’m getting ready to move here for college. I worked at Chick-Fil-A in the kitchen for the last 4 years, and became a lead in April. I also have an associates in Graphic Design: Print Design, but haven’t really done much with it, nor can I afford adobe and haven’t had any practice with anything else, as now I’ve decided to attend a Bible college. Just thought I’d check here to see if anyone had any suggestions. I’m probably going to apply to Walmart and Lowe’s, and I already tried Kroger, but I also wanted to see if there was anything that paid reasonably that isn’t a job at a grocery store/home improvement store.

Mount Vernon Auditor Terry Scott announced his resignation at the end of the City Council meeting, ending his thirty-year tenure. His departure follows revelations that the city has been struggling with paying bills, managing employee payroll, and withdrawing from a contract with a local accounting firm. Recently, the City Council had expressed growing frustration with these issues and was in the early stages of preparing a vote of no confidence and drafting legislation to compel the auditor to address the problems in his office.

My personal observation was this was a political move. The local GOP will appoint someone to fill out the rest of his term, the voters will not be able to decide until the next election. I don't like the story that unfolded to this point.

The state voted to legalize recreational marijuana in November 2023. On Thursday, the City of Mount Vernon published its agenda, which included Ordinance 2024-31 at the end. In an emergency declaration, without public input or any analysis, the City Council decided to propose an ordinance banning the sale of recreational marijuana within city limits, with a deadline of July 11, 2024.

I am not interested in debating the pros and cons of recreational marijuana. However, the City Council's arbitrary action, without any thorough vetting, is deeply concerning. I have emailed council members, but my concern is that if this emergency declaration passes with a two-thirds vote, it will be difficult to overturn. The council has repeatedly used emergency declarations without proper review or sunset provisions, and I do not trust their motives in this move.

I am urge anyone and everyone to contact their Mount Vernon council members and demand transparency, public input, and review process before any decision is made. It is crucial that we hold these officials accountable and ensure that such decisions are not made hastily.

UPDATE: the council only gave it a first reading.

Second Update: Council voted to postpone the amendment indefinetly. Because of the current law requiring medical marijuana holders to act as dispensiries, an older ban in 2017(?) would prevent any dispenary from opening in the city limits. If the law changes, council may elect to bring the legislation back to squash any sales.

I lived in Mount Vernon in the mid 90s as a middle schooler, I’ve not been back since (parents divorce, moving all that) I remember it was nice there, I’m 40 now and married. My anniversary is coming up so I rented the theme Air b&b you have there in town. I don't know how many people have seen these, but it's so strange to remember what Coshocton Ave used to look like, and the businesses that don't exist anymore.

Obviously a low-pop sub. I'm Bill, an old (not quite 60, but I can unfortunately see it) dude, living a little bit south of B'Berg. I get to MtV nearly every weekday. Recently moved into the area and feel like I'm struggling a bit trying to find contractors. Any recommendations for delivery and spreading of gravel for a driveway?
