What's the dispute process like when using Monzo Flex?

I'm debating whether to use my AMEX or Monzo Flex to make some purchases, and I'm curious as to whether the dispute process (with Section 75) is as good with Monzo as it is with AMEX.

With my AMEX I made a purchase over £1000 that I never received because the seller went bust. When I raised the dispute the money was instantly refunded, and that was that. Never heard anything from them again. I'm not sure if that's due to Section 75, or if AMEX is particularly good on these things.

Is it as seamless with Monzo Flex?

FWIW, I will be using Flex as a virtual card, rather than using my normal card and then paying with Flex, as I understand that is the only way to get Section 75 protection.

Crypto buying in UK Monzo

Can anyone help with advice please

About twice a month I buy crypto using my Monzo account here in the UK. Usually for less than £100 each time.

I am thinking of spending more, maybe more like £100 a week.

Would Monzo be unhappy with that? In other words I spend about £200 per month on crypto but am thinking of upping that to about £400 per month.

I don't want to be in the situation where they close my account, so I won't go up to £400 a month if that's seen as too much.

Any help gratefully received

Thanks

How much do you spend on stamps for Christmas cards?

I have a lot of international friends like a pen pals arrangement but the last couple of years the cost of stamps have gone through the roof. There's no longer any European pricing who are lumped together with the rest of the world.

In 2020 I paid £2.55 for a single stamp for places like Australia. That went down to £2.20 but has since climbed back to £2.80 per stamp this year.

I like purchasing stamp specials throughout the year but the cost of them have gone through the roof. I always kept my costs to about £100 for about 80 people but I've hit about £150 this year alone and I've used up all my previous years of stamp collections to make up for the extra cost. I wish there was a way to save money for buying a small collection of stamps each month. Monzo, would you like to provide a perk for Max customers?

Declined payment still taken

I bought an iPad on the 6th November on flex and the payment got declined, I got an email from Amazon stating this but the pending payment came up in flex. I thought it would disappear as it said pending so went ahead and made the payment again. Roll on almost a month later and both £999 payments are still on my flex. Amazon say it’s nothing to do with them but did try to fob me off with a authorisation code to give Monzo to get them to cancel the payment.

I asked Monzo to use it but they stated I need to raise a dispute. I’ve done this but my question is, has anyone else had similar? I’m really anxious about this as that’s a lot of money to have just sat there going to amazon and no one seemingly caring. I have to wait 45 days for a dispute decision

Should I pay off my credit card as soon as I use it?

Hi all! I'm very, very new to credit card usage and mainly want to get one to keep my credit score/ history in good health.

I just have some questions. I'm thinking about going with Flex simply because I'm already with Monzo and I feel it's the easiest one for me to get and my plan is to use it for everyday spending like in the shops or buses etc.

My question is, if I use this in the shop and for example spend £25, when I get home should I pay it off the same day to get my credit amount back to 0? Or should I wait until the end of the month and pay it all at once?

I was hoping to just use it in store and then when I get back pay it off instantly but will that affect my credit score/ health negatively? Will it be more beneficial to wait until the end of the month and pay it off then or does that have no affect at all and as long as it's paid off I'm all good?

Potential Fraud - Already Reported

Received a random failed transaction notification this afternoon.

Reporter it instantly as I haven't order a replacement card. I don't even live or work in that area either.

Feel like someone has either cloned an old card or created an account with my detail.

Can I dispute this payment?

I bought a sloth experience at a zoo with my debit card. On the website they say they have a no touch policy which is what you are supposed to look for for a more ethical experience. However, when I looked at the reviews after buying it (I should probably have looked first) I realised there is a lot of people touching the sloths so now we don’t want to do it. I called and they said I had to email so now I have emailed them a few times with no answer. They say you can have a refund within 14 days but it has been around 9 or 10 and no one is responding. Some reviews also say they have tried for months to get in touch with someone for a refund with no luck. Do you think this is basis to dispute the charge or no? Thank you

Possible fraud through Deliveroo?

I’m not really sure what is happening at the moment so I would appreciate any insight. I’m autistic and struggle to know when something is a problem or not.

I have a personal and joint Monzo account, the personal one is the only one affected. I use Apple Pay 90% of the time, including when online shopping.

In early November I had a Deliveroo payment come through one morning for £7.99. I do not use Deliveroo although I have an old account. I have never used the Monzo card/account with it. It still had an old Halifax card connected to it (since removed). No order was on my Deliveroo. I reported this to Monzo and was refunded and issued a new card. I do not know how this could have happened.

The cashback amount for Deliveroo stayed on my cashback, which I didn’t report again. Edit: it seems to have been removed at some point without me noticing, not immediately though.

Today I had two cashback amounts for Deliveroo come through. No transactions on my account though. It seems suspicious though.

Does anyone know if that implies that someone tried my card again on Deliveroo? Or is something else happening?

I’ve opened a chat with Monzo but they haven’t replied yet and i want to know if I need to cancel my card again?

Have I opened a savings account or an ISA?

Hello. This might be a silly question. I'm at the ISA limit for the year and wanted to put some money into a savings pot which is what I thought I did at the start of November.

I was just looking at my account documents and it says 'Monzo instant access savings pot' but then underneath it says Instant Access Cash ISA (first picture). My app (second picture) and account statement (third picture) say savings pot so I'm a bit confused.

Is this definitely a savings pot? Or have I got this wrong and I'll be making an awkward phone call to HMRC tomorrow...

Thinking of switching from Starling, few questions

Starling has been my main bank for 5+ years but for the first time, I'm thinking of switching, mainly due to Starling removing interest. As I keep a decent amount of money in pots, this is worth about £10/month to me, enough to consider switching. I also have a premium Nationwide account which is going up from £13 to £18 per month (I don't use, but keep it for the insurance perks). Therefore I'm thinking of closing the Nationwide and moving from Starling to Monzo Max. Few questions from me:

  1. Has Monzo made any indication/comms they intend to remove interest like Starling are doing?
  2. On the website it says Max is from £17 month. How much is it actually? I can't find any further information without opening an account.
  3. Has anyone else made a similar move?

Monzo's Auto Spreadsheet function and Flex

I've tried searching for this answer, but can't find anything on the Monzo website or online aside from a solitary Reddit post from a year ago, with no replies.

I have a Monzo account which I use infrequently. I am thinking of moving my banking to them from Starling, now they offer some of the added features on the joint accounts. I am particularly interested in the auto spreadsheet function as this will satisfy my inner nerd by being able to create a live budget dashboard in G Sheets. The custom categories also work better for me than Starling's insistence that you must use one of their pre-defined categories.

However, I also have a Flex card. My intention would be to use this for most daily spending, but I'm not sure if transactions on the Flex Card are included within the Auto Spreadsheet. Monzo are quite vague on this front. I don't really want to waste time setting it all up if it's not going to work.

Can someone confirm?

will Monzo close my other banks account

I plan on opening a Monzo account for travelling abroad, and I have a Barclays Bank account. If I open a Monzo account on the app will it affect my Barclays account? And do I need to tell either Barclays or Monzo about the other?

I know it’s probably a stupid question but I’d rather be safe and ask than just do it and have done something wrong and it go bad

Where’s the “thanks” function gone? Seems odd to remove functionality.

Embossed Card Details

Just dug out my physical card for the first time in a long time and wondered if the personal account cards still come with embossed details? My flex, joint and business accounts all have printed details on the back.

Anyone had a card lately? I have a basic account and don’t pay monthly.

Can't add card to Google Walllet

I've recently got a new phone and when I tried to add my card I got an unable to verify error. I've deleted my cards for my old phone, as well as taken the card of my Google account.

I keep getting these error. I've given it a Google and they say it's something to do with Monzo Tokens, but I contacted Monzo Support 2 days ago and I've heard nothing back.

Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?

How do you use the railcard?

When I got to Birmingham new street and held it over the qr/barcode scanner it kept flashing red and the doors wouldn't open.

I had physical tickets (as I bought them before I remembered I had a railcard) and they opened the gate.

Then coming back through I tried again but didn't flashed red. I showed the station worker and she said that's the railcard, you need physical ticket.

🤔 So what's the railcard for?

How often do you use the features of your tier?

I have perks. I go to greggs whenever I'm passing by or every few days.

I'm gonna use the free cinema ticket once a month as its 30 minutes away and once I figure out the railcard I'll be using it anytime I need the train.

I use the custom categories too and changed the wallpaper. Wish they had more colours tho. Or your able to add your own picture.

Black Friday fraud - Monzo

I just had 3 Apple transactions taken on my Monzo Flex for £80 each. There was an active card check which I received no notification of, and then suddenly payments taken without my approval. Usually Monzo security is very good so I’m shocked.

I can see that this was done on Apple.com Singapore site and I’m in London. I haven’t been to Singapore in many years. My card is with me.

It’s not a huge amount but obviously worrying. I blocked the card.

I’ve heard Monzo is awful at refunding and responding. I’ve checked that I can go to the Financial Obudsman.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Card blocked due to flagged transaction.

So I had a transaction appear at approximately 18:46 today from Uber for £4.99 and as I have not used uber for well over a few months I immediately flagged this on the app.

Monzo have refunded me the money and blocked my card but have not mentioned whether they will be sending me a new one at all. I'm not sure if I need to request a replacement card myself from the app or if they will automatically send one since my current card is now blocked.

I'm hoping someone may have had a similar experience and can share if they had one sent automatically or not. Cheers.

Edit: yes I am stupid and forgot about uber one. I was thrown off since it came from Uber and not Uber Eats as I haven't used Uber for about 10 months.

Has anyone used the free cinema ticket?

I went to watch venom the last dance yesterday. It was really good. Also sad.

Was fine with the free tier until they added free cinema tickets then I went with perks.

Changing name

Has anyone changed their legal name with Monzo and can tell me how long it took for it to be approved? I've sent my request a few days ago and I keep seeing the pop-up saying they've got my request and to just wait but I've been wondering how long does it usually take to be updated?
