Plan on getting Esa for a dog and a cat.

I know this situation is a lot. But it's what I'm stuck with. Been seportated from my fur babies has cause me a lot of stress so hope to be reunited with them ASAP.

So I need a roommate or a group to find a rental property with.

non smoker, adhd, cptsd, can room with any gender or mix of. Max budget 800. Hoping for much less to avoid barely surviving situation.

If any questions please feel free to ask.

Please don't offer as a hookup. It's weird and I'm tired of those offers.

Latino Family Temporarily Moving to Build Meta Data Center - Any insight is greatly appreciated!

We are planning to temporarily move to Montgomery for my husband's job. He's going to be building the Meta Data Center.

I've been searching through this reddit to see what neighborhoods we should move to...seems like Prattville is a big suggestion. I had a few other questions and I'm hoping to get some insight. Thank you in advance! :)

  • Seems like it is better to rent a home compared to an apartment...Is this correct?
  • We usually use furnished finder for temporary housing, but there are not a lot of options. Any hotel recommendations for a temporary stay while we check out the area and figure out housing?
  • My husband was hoping for a short commute (15mins or less), but it seems like that might not be doable if we want to live in a decent safe neighborhood. Is this correct? Is Hope Hull not a good option?
  • I checked Zillow and other popular sites, but some of the listings look fake and outdated... How do people go about looking for homes to rent?
  • We are a Latino family. I saw some other posts that said there is a growing Asian population, but I haven't seen any comments about Latinos. Do you think we will encounter any racism? Is it similar to Memphis? (While living there, we encountered racism from black and white people in everyday life like grocery shopping, getting gas, etc. We lived in a nice outskirt neighborhood and crime still spilled over)
  • Bugs? There were a ton of "Palmetto Bugs" which are HUGE ROACHES even if people call them differently in Memphis. There were sooo many flies in San Diego. Anything I should prepare for?
  • Any latino restaurant recommendations? Based on some of the other posts and just guessing, it seems like Montgomery is a food desert.
  • I see a lot of comments about shitty drivers. We're from Queens, NY. We've lived in Denver, San Francisco, San Diego, Memphis, and Phoenix. How does it compare? Is it really that bad or just bad for those who are in a smaller city?

I'm sorry for so many questions, but I've always trusted Reddit in every move! Your help is much appreciated! :)

Edit: No budget for rent. We are a family of three so we don’t need a huge space, but we’re also happy to pay for one. We want to be comfortable and safe. Our son is still a baby so schools aren’t a concern yet. If commute and budget weren’t factors, what neighborhood would you suggest? Also, what areas should we avoid?

Candlelight Inn & America’s Best Value Inn

Yesterday while traveling from AL to FL, I got off the interstate and stopped for gas. When I got to the gas station, I noticed a very big building across the street that looked abandoned with the word Candlelight on it, then noticed another abandoned bullding next to it. I’m always very intrigued by abandoned buildings, especially when they’re big. I decided to pull in to the Candlelight parking lot to take a closer look, then quickly realized it was an abandoned motel where squatters were currently living. Didn’t spend much time over there as to not disturb the squatters. After some quick googling, I found both former businesses & it even says America’s Best Value Inn is still open for business while it is clearly not.

Anyway, I’m making this post because I’m curious if there’s any sort of interesting story to these buildings/businesses aside from “they went out of business & squatters moved in”.

What happened to the Cahawba House?

My husband and I went to brunch there two Sundays ago and everything seemed normal. We tried to go today and there’s a paper sign that says, “Permanently closed, we will miss y’all.” We asked the owner of the bookstore down the street if she knew what happened and she said she’s just as surprised as we are. Anybody know what happened?

Survey for parents/caregivers to children aged 2-12 - looking at what children know about sharks

Hi everyone,

I am a scientist from Australia + I am looking for participants, around the world, for some new research I am doing.

Are you the parent/caregiver of a child aged 2-12 years? If so, we kindly invite you to participate in our short online survey about sharks. We are interested in what children know about sharks, so this survey involves you completing a couple of questions about sharks, and then asking your children some questions about sharks. You will then be asked to write what your children say or what they do (e.g. if they use hand gestures).

LINK TO SURVEY:

https://research.unisa.edu.au/redcap/surveys/?s=XYPHMNMKFEJR7H4P

Please also feel free to send to any one you know who might be interested.

The survey takes approximately ten minutes per child to complete, if you have more than one child aged between 2-12 they can all participate.

This study has received ethics approval from the University of South Australia (#206267). If you have any queries, please contact the lead researcher: Brianna.lebusque@unisa.edu.au

Moving to the area!

Hey all I’m moving to Montgomery this weekend! I was curious if anyone could give me insight on the area on these subjects. (yeah I know it’s the same song and dance every other day with this same question - but I want to get more specific.)

  1. Best places to get produce and meats at a fair price. (I do like Publix but would rather find an alternative to turn it into an “ outing” for myself.)

  2. Pet friendly places? Dog parks, breweries etc.

  3. Game stores aside from GameStop maybe a place that does weekly functions or events? (

for the record I’m a 28yr old guy.)

  1. And tell me something you make a point to do to as a hobby in the area!

Edit: I also like fishing and hiking, and disc golf! Drop some locations on some interesting spots!

Thanks everyone!

Walkable city neighborhoods?

I'm currently thinking about relocating to Montgomery to be closer to family and for the lower costs of living. I currently live in the DC/Baltimore area. My currently job is willing to let me be fully remote, if I do indeed decide to move out of state.

I really do not like living in suburbs, and would prefer to live in an area that I could walk to cafes, restaurants, breweries, events, etc. I'm also a single woman, early 40's, no kids so I'm not really looking for neighborhoods with a family feel. I don't want to be dodging bullets, but normal city stuff doesn't really bother me as I am familiar with DC and Baltimore. Also if I don't move to Montgomery, I will be moving to one of those cities.

I was looking at some apartments online and will be visiting some next month. I believe most are close to the Riverfront area, but was wondering if there were other areas I could add to my search. Also, if I do move to Montgomery, I will most likely be looking to buy a small house or condo after a year with a budget under $200,000 since it is doable down there. And if I could find a neighborhood that fits my wants, that also has housing inventory in my price range that wouldl be fantastic and make up for having to deal with the hot weather down there.

Moving back to Montgomery

Hi all, I'm moving back to Montgomery for several reasons. I had a primary care in Millbrook before I moved. I'd like someone closer. It needs to be someone who doesn't take a week to return phone calls. And someone who has nice professional support staff that will actually help a patient. I also need a cardiologist. And a gyno too. Thank you. 🙂

The AMC at Festival Plaza. Did it die?

I go every week, and the sign outside said they had a plumbing issue and would reopen after a day or two. It's been over a week. What's the story?

Temporary!!

Hi, I'm new to this group. My husband and I have a small living arrangement going on. Where we are at, at the moment the property doesn't allow cat's. (But accepts dogs) smh. We have had her for 4 years. She is a very sweet girl. She will do well with other cat's. It will just take some time. I really wish we could find her temporary housing because we really love her. Family doesn't like cat's. Friends not so many. But if anyone know, or have some insight on temporary housing for animals to where we could possibly get her back after we get settled into our new home, would be great! We on on a short time ( she has to be gone after tomorrow). Thank you

Visiting later this year

Hi everyone,

I'm visiting the South for the first time. I currently live on the West Coast, but both of my grandparents are originally from the South. My grandmother passed away last November, and I’ve finally decided to take the trip to see her hometown and learn more about where she grew up. Her first cousin, along with one of my cousins who is around my age, will be showing me my grandmother’s old house and the area she lived in.

Beyond that, I’m not sure what to expect. I’ll be going in December or early January, so I know it’ll be cold.

Are there any must-see museums or places in the area? I’ve come across The Legacy Museum, which I’d love to visit, but I’m open to any other recommendations!

Pediatricians in the Montgomery area?

My family is relocating in December. My son will be 1yr when we move, and I'm looking for pediatrician recommendations for him.

I've scouted out potential doctors, but I want some opinions on who to see/if there's any I should avoid.

Edit: Thank you all for the recommendations! Y'all have put this mom's mind at ease

Places hiring?

Hey everyone, I currently live in the Tuscaloosa area, and I was wondering if anyone knew of some good companies to work for that would hire a 22M that is in the AL Army National Guard, and willing to relocate. Thank you in advance.

River region fencing

Has anyone here had a fence done this year around Montgomery area? Looking at fencing a new property was curious on material/pattern/cost and footage that you paid before I start getting quotes. Bonus if you remember the company who installed it and how they were.

Thank you!
