Red vs blue label watercolor books?

I’m need a new mini (3.5x5.5”) watercolor Moleskine but I’m seeing one with a red band on the label (Amazon) and one with a blue band on the label (Blick and Utrecht). The specs all look the same, so is the blue one just a newer rebranding or is there a difference in the paper?

Smart Pen: is there a pen holder / dock, or alternative heads?

I just bought the Smart Pen pack. Seems great so far!

I was wondering if people here have nice solutions for charging the pen like maybe a dock or holder to leave the pen in?

Also, is there any alternative to the ballpoint head? It'd be really nice to have more of a brush stroke.

Would love any other ideas on how to use this and improve quality of life!

Daily Moleskine with blank pages?

I've been buying Moleskine daily journals every year for over a decade. This year mine came with a few blank pages in April. This is a first for me. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

A3 paper pad - does it still exist?

I once purchased a simple A3 paper pad at the Moleskine store in LA. I haven’t been able to find anything like it since and it was easily the best size and weight for me of all the pads and notebooks I’ve tried.

Does anyone know if 1) it still exists and 2) if any Moleskine friends/aficionados have them somewhere and would be willing to part with them?

Lost my Smart Pen (NWP-F130) can’t find where to buy a replacement

As the title suggests, I’ve reached out to Moleskine online +visited a Moleskine store - it seems I have to buy a complete set from scratch not just a replacement.

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement NWP-F130?

I saw a post that the NEO N2 pen works with moleskin smart notebook and notes app, but on Neo’s website they only sell the R1, A1, and M1+ smart pens…..does anyone know if these will work with the Moleskine smart notebook and notes app? I just want to write notes and have them uploaded to my phone.

Thanks!

Moleskine pen +

I saw a moleskine dotted paper tablet notebook in TK maxx but it doesn’t have the pen with it? I assumed it would come with the pen. When I google where to find one it seems it only comes as a writing set but I already have the notebook a moleskine pen would work with? Am I missing something? Do I need to buy the pen separate and where from?

Plain Cahier with Printed Pages!

I adore the Cahier notebooks. I get they're not for everyone, but I've been purchasing them for well over 10 years, possibly closer to 20 years. I have gotten the dotted and plain and the pages are a bit thin but there's just something about the stitched cardboard minimalist cover that makes me happy. I always get them in Kraft.

My latest notebooks have printing on three of the pages. The front page has a stupid lined "in case of loss, return to" thing with an offered cash reward line and then a logo at the base. Behind that half a page is taken up with the manifesto. Like who gives a shit? "At Moleskine we believe in the timeless power of handwriting as an essential expression of human civilization, a powerful act to unleash human genius and foster the development and sharing of literacy and knowledge". You know, we believe in it so much that we are using up pages in your notebook and blocking your handwriting in these spots to tell you that.

The back page has information on the foundation. They used to print extra stuff on a little folded paper that went in the pocket in the back, but now three of the pages are gone. I counted. Yes, I counted. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Surely they didn't sell me a notebook with 80 blank pages and take three of them? They threw in an extra leaf, right? No, they printed in the original 80 pages.

My last pack was purchased in March of 2024 and was as I expect them to be so this change has happened since then. I've loved their plain notebooks precisely because there's none of this extra fluff. They were never putting their own stamp, brand, and QR codes into these notebooks. The notebooks used to be mine to stamp. MOLESKINE was always debossed into the back cover and I appreciated that as a mark of authenticity and because it didn't take up my creative space.

I don't have an end to my rant here. I'd be less mad if they had added extra pages for the ones they stole from me, but they didn't. I know it's only 3 pages. Anyway, I ripped them out and lost another page because of it and I'm going to clean up the ripped bits as close to the stitching as I can and just move on, but these will probably be my last Cahier notebooks. I guess the company is changing and getting worse in more than just the cover and page quality.

Quality of cover?

Every few years I buy a new moleskine to journal in. The leather cover of the most recent one (bought at the end of December, £8 postage and only just arrived!!) feels very different quality to my other Moleskines. The previous leather felt thicker, smoother and generally a higher quality. I'm so disappointed as I've read all the stuff about paper quality and thought 'huh I haven't really noticed that' but now I'm going to have to concede that the quality is, in fact, declining :-(

Moleskine Volant XS - Sources or Alternatives?

I'm looking for some nice, small notebooks, and I remembered the Moleskines (specifically the Volant series) from some years ago. However, the selection - especially in the XS/XSmall/extra small size that I want (2"1/2x4"1/4 ; 6.5cmx10.5cm) appears to be quite limited, especially after further online searching. I can't seem to find any sets besides the light blue/coral red and the forget-me-not blue/amber yellow, though it appears that they at least used to produce other colors. (mustard yellow, sage green, black, grey, etc.) Also, it appears from what I've seen in this and the r/notebooks subreddit (which I found during my searches) that the opinion of the Moleskine brand has somewhat soured over the years.

So, I come to r/moleskine in search of advice on either of two approaches:

  1. Where can I source some other-colored XS-sized Volants (likely overstock from back when they were produced)? I haven't had much luck so far on the usual sites (amazon, ebay, etc.), with listings being redirected, out-of-stock, outright dead links, etc. :-\

  2. What is a good alternative for something similar? I'm looking for something small and slim, in various colors, and with smooth binding. (Ideally, I'd like to be able to get them all the same make & model, so that they match, only varying in color.)

Thanks in advance.

Templates for 2025 calendar

Hi everyone - I know the issues with registering for template access on the website (a thing you can’t do) has been discussed. I’m wondering if they’re hiding any useful templates for the pocket weekly calendars (like https://www.moleskine.com/en-us/black-friday/planners/classic-planner-2025-pocket-black-8056999270384.html), specifically relating to habit tracking? Thanks!

Did anyone get a good paper quality 2025?

I don't think I need to repeat the same complaints everybody has about the paper quality.

I would like to know if anyone has a good paper quality 2025 Moleskine, and if so, where do they buy it from and what did the quality control sticker look like? Or, is it all garbage now?

Does the individual monthly book planner still exist?

Some years ago I had a Moleskine daily planner where each month had its own little book and there were 12 books in the set. Does anyone remember what I am talking about? Is it still possible to get this?

Alternative to Moleskine? (Not Leuchtturm)

Howdy folks,

I carry a Moleskine pocket notebook (A6) around with me wherever I go. As I'm sure you're all aware, the paper quality is disappointing. I'm looking for an alternative for my next pocket notebook once I've completed my current one.

The majority of my larger notebooks and journals are all Leuchtturms, and I admire the quality. However, I'm not a fan of the A6 size Leuchtturm. Though the paper quality is far superior to the Moleskine, the softcover Leuchtturm's faux leather cover is quite unpleasant to the touch, the moleskine feels much nicer in hand.

In an ideal world, I would buy a pocket notebook with the same proportions and cover material as the moleskine but the paper and numbered pages of the Leuchtturm.

I realise I'm being a little picky, but this is what I'm looking for. Does anybody have any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Earliest date in 2025 weekly planner?

I went to buy a planner today but they were all shrink-wrapped. I hate to have empty pages at the beginning of the year - could anyone please confirm the date at which the planner pages start? Thank you.

Pen for daily diary

Hi everyone - I’ve just bought a moleskine daily diary for 2025 and was excited to use a fountain pen with it but alas, all my inks seep through to the other side. Any other notebook I’d just write on the right side only but obviously in the diary I can’t! Any suggestions for a brand/type of pen to use? I’d prefer not blue ink but I’m happy with most other colours! Thanks!

Smart Planner Time Zone Issue

Hi. I just got a Moleskine Smart Planner for 2025 that connects to my iCal. My goal is to use a paper planner this year — to spend less time on my phone, but still have my entries connect to my devices. It actually works really well — when I put an entry in a specific time on my Moleskine it pops onto my iCal which also puts the info into my Google Calendar.

The problem is that I’m on the West Coast of the United States — in PST — and all of my entries copy over from the moleskine in EST. So all of my entries end up being three hours off from what I need them to be. I end up having to manually change every entry to the proper time on my computer.

Does anybody know how to fix this? I’ve tried to go through all the regular troubleshooting things, including making sure I’ve overwritten all of my time zones on all of my devices, but nothing has fixed. I reached out to moleskine’s customer service online but haven’t received a response yet. Any help would be much appreciated.

Making tape on moleskine

Every time I have tried to use a making tape on my moleskines it rips out a layer of the paper when trying to remove it.

I have tried artist masking tape and the blue masking tape (the one for sensitive surfaces). I try to pull the tape as gently as possible. Anyone have luck using making tape on moleskines? I'm looking for recommendations of masking tape that won't destroy my paper.

Labeling Moleskines

There was a post earlier where someone was asking about labeling their Moleskine notebooks. Couldn’t figure how to add a photo in that post’s comment section, so here’s how I’m labeling my notebooks.

I use a P-Touch label maker and then use packing tape to keep the printed label from coming off.

Any recommendations for labeling the outside of moleskine journals?

I have a pile. Each is a specific year, and they are journal sketchbooks capturing memories and time with family. Any ideas?

Just affixing a label feels a bit temporary or inelegant. And the spines need to stay pretty flexible.

Customising the front page of my brand new Moleskine.

I've also got my Uni-ball One P primed and ready. It's the best pen for Moleskine paper. (This Mole was made in Turkïye and is superb).

Poor paper quality on Custom Edition Notebook

Hi! I own 50+ Moleskine bought over the last 15 years.

All are Large format, Limited edition, Ruled Notebooks.

I'm super annoyed with the paper-quality, using a Mitsubishi UniBall Eye 0.7. Pretty typical roller-pen.

As an example, let's take Casa Batlló Custom Edition Notebook.

I followed this video advice - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rVYJSWgp_c, saying "On the paper sleeve make sure under the "FSC' code it states "Paper | Supporting responsible forestry" vs "Paper from responsible sources."

Didn't work for me. The latest Limited edition has "responsible forestry", paper quality is terrible. I'm experiencing a bleed-through that's just laughable at this point.

Wondering if anyone else has a similar experience here? Thanks,

Paper quality variation in 12 vs 18 month calendars

Hi friends: I know Moleskine has had a lot of complaints about variable paper quality in recent years, and a lot of threads on here speak to that. I wanted to ask if there's a known variability in their 12 vs. 18 month weekly planners? I've used both for years and they were decent - not fountain pen friendly but tolerated other pens fine, and were pretty predictable at least. I just started my new 2025 12-month planner and the paper quality is much, much worse than the 18 month planner I'm just finishing! Comparing side by side the difference is really obvious. Any pen except for cheap roller ball bit pens shows through the page, even highlighters bleed through. The cover and binding also feels much cheaper.

I'm wondering if (1) is the quality just going down over time, (2) do they sell a worse version of their product on Amazon (normally I buy in store, this time I got it on Amazon), (3) is the 12 month always worse quality (I more often have used the 18 month in the last 5 years)? Thanks!

Cancel Order?

I’m running out of places to see if this is an option, and would love some help if possible. I ordered a Moleskine notebook for my girlfriend. I found a much cheaper price for the same notebook on Amazon, and would like to cancel my order. I cannot find an option on their website page anywhere. Every website in the past I’ve used has had this as an option. I’ve reached out to support already, and am wondering if there’s anything else I can do. I would rather cancel it before it ships out. Thank you in advance.
