Basic Rules of MobileRepair

  • 1. No Repair Hunting | Searching This sub is not for people to post spam trying to get more board repair, build your SEO elsewhere. This is a 0 Tolerance ban offence, and will preclude you from being allowed a listing on the vendorlist. Please Visit the VENDORLIST 3.0 BETA and search for a microsoldering / level 2 tech near you. • 2. No Parts | Tools | Link Requests We do not allow the requesting of outside links in the sub, To many whole sellers try to use this as a means to use one account to ask the question, and another to post the link. If you need a part of tools, please use our vendorlist website, located at https://vendorlist.mbl.repair

  • 3. No Sharing Schematics , Boardviews or LINKS to them Unfortunately this puts this sub at risk for legal issues and potential shutdown. The companies that people want to share the schematics and such for the most are notorious for take down notices and the like, and since WE as a group do not get to respond to these and only get to react to reddits decisions, its in the best interest of our groups ability to STAY a group, that we do not share these files, or links to them. =( I would have posted a link with a zip years ago otherwise, - TPG

  • 4. No Advertising This includes advertisement from the vendor itself, or posting the names and links of vendors in the community. We cannot tell whos been paid to post what so all its a no go. All vendor stuff is on the vendorlist! Use it!

  • 5. No "is this a good part" Posts. We have seen an uptick in companies using this "trick" to try and gain backlinks and seo boosts from our subreddit, therefore, these posts will be deleted. The proper post would be to ask how to tell the difference in quality levels for this type of part then to use the vendorlist in the sidebar to find a good vendor. All deleted posts will have the domain put on our ban list as well.

  • 6.No Discussion of ICLOUD | FRP BYPASSES | SECURITY BYPASSES Let's be real, iCloud and Google Locked are 98% stolen. Same goes for devices who need imei cleaning. Generally, these phones are financed. So that means to clean them would be like vin switching on stolen cars. /r/mobilerepair does not endorse any type of theft or fraud for any reason.

  • 7. No Discussion of IMEI CLEANING IMEI Cleaning is actual against US Federal law and probably many more countries. Keep it out of here. 0 Tolerance Ban

  • 8. Don't be a Jerk Be cool with one another.

  • 9.No URL Shoteners Do not use URL shorteners, these generally disguise malware or advertisements.

  • 10. Fight for the right to repair, and support the community. This sub is 100% Pro Right to Repair, Don't come in here spouting corporate idiocy about only that company being the only one who should repair a device. We exist only because we are the opposite of that.

Samsung A53 swapped battery shows inconsistent readings.

Long story short, previous battery started slightly swelling and smelling like nail polish, swapped that spicy pillow for a seemingly original one, however the readings are all over the place: an hour worth of Screentime and the battery remains at 100%. After finally going to 99% and from there, sharp drops in percentage happen even on idle. Through the night, even on battery save mode, the batrery lost around 40% of its charge. Total use of a supposed 4850mah battery: >4h SoT within 24h. Which begs the question of what did I mess up? Faulty battery? Fudged internal component? Thinking the charger might be the culprit but it's a month old and brand new.

Can I reset an iPhone with FMI off?

Hello, I recently bought an iPhone from ebay that has a PIN lock from the previous owner which I don't know. I checked the phone's IMEI online and it said that it's icloud is unlocked, and the FMI is turned off. If i factory reset it, will it ask for the previous owner's credentials or not?

Went to change my iPhone battery and they return my phone with broken screen

A couple of days ago I went to change my iPhone 12 mini battery, when I went to pick up the phone they returned it to me with a broken screen and they told me that it was their mistake and that they would give me another one for free. I have already repaired cell phones for a long time and I knew that the one they would give me was not original, even though they told me it was. I accepted with the condition that it would be a new hard OLED screen and that it would work the same as the original, since it was not my fault, today they installed the new screen and apart from the fact that it looks quite distorted and gives headache, it has many tactile problems, each 2 words I have to correct a letter because it is not going well. What should I do, claim form and get paid for a repair at Apple? I understand that their insurance covers it, I'm a little lost.

edit 1: I’ve already paid for the battery because it caught me by surprise but some of you have told me that they should cover both things for me

iPhone 11 Pro Max back camera is black, but doesn’t appear cracked

My phone fell pretty hard and the back glass was damaged. The camera lens itself is not cracked and the front camera works. However, it just appears black and won’t take any pictures. The flash also no longer works. Could it just be a board issue that needs reconnecting or do I need to replace the entire back camera? (I don’t know anything about phones, so I hope this makes sense)

I lost the screw for this Earpiece speaker unit (11P) and I’ve tried the smallest screw I can locate from sooooo many old phone housings and not a singular one fits…is there no screw anywhere else on the rest of the 11P or any other housing of iPhone??

Redmi note 11 replacement

I got my phone's display replaced with a "first copy display"

I was told everything else would be the same

But now the phones speakers sound much worse and its vibration sensation is also much different. What could explain this?

Does changing the display unit also change other components?

iPhone XR turned off suddenly and won't turn on after charging issue [POWER IC REPLACEMENT]

My iPhone XR suddenly turned off while charging with a third-party adapter. However, I noticed that it was intermittently disconnecting from charging. I tried adjusting the charger, but suddenly my phone turned off on its own, despite having 19% battery left. Now it won't turn back on. A local repair shop suggests a POWER IC replacement for 2500 INR but with no guarantee. Any advice on alternatives? Also, does anyone know Apple Care's pricing for a similar issue in India?

Thanks for any help!

iPad 7th Gen only boots in DFU mode

I have a 7th gen iPad that was working great until today. Found it with a black (off) screen, unresponsive to forced restart or attempts to enter recovery mode.

It does not appear in a USB device list when attached to a computer except when in DFU mode. Attempting to restore in DFU mode proceeds until it reboots to complete flashing at which point it never comes back (error given is "Gave up waiting for device to transition from DFU state to DFU state."). I can re-enter DFU, but that's the only state when the device seems to have any signs of life.

Any thoughts on what might have failed or next steps?

Hello everyone so basically my phone(iphone Xs) suddenly turned off in rain at it booted back up with Apple logo and flickering green lines and repeated for like 3-4times and now it’s been 7hours from than and it’s dead not booting at all even when pluggin into a charger I took it to a mobile shop and he said that the board has an issue i saw him plug in a charger and on a screen the amp was glitching between 0.00 and 0.06 I think. Concerning iPhone Restore

Is there any difference in the result of using the built in “erase all content and settings” of the iPhone vs using a program like 3u Tools to quick flash the device. I understand things like needing to remove the Apple ID first, but for thoroughness, future performance, whatever it be, is there any functional difference between the result of the two different methods? Thank you.

Samsung A22, after repair from shop, screen unresponsive. Power button long-press doesn't work. How to switch off?

Samsung A22 5G, screen partially cracked, so got a replacement. Guy said there are cheaper screens and Samsung screens, I bought the cheaper screen. I watched the repair and got it as soon as the phone was fitted back together, it was near closing time so it all happened in half an hour.

The phone was working on the bus ride towards home. When I got home, rubber bands still on the phone, I turned on the phone's torch. Then after a minute, the screen became and is now completely unresponsive.

It's been now three hours since the repair was done.

I don't want to restart it (I've done that over and over, using simultaneously the power button and the lower volume button - screen still not working - the only benefit is that the torch is off).

I just want to force the phone to switch off. Yet long-pressing the power button just doesn't do anything except displaying the three options (off, restart, emergency) - but nothing by way of shutting down the phone.

Please advise. Is this normal? Will the screen somehow work again after many more hours of waiting?

Otherwise I will have to take it back to the shop tomorrow; fortunately I still have the receipt.

Smashed S20 Camera Glass

https://preview.redd.it/jvpamm8kntuc1.jpg?width=4128&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d95fea8d7c8ae4a0debc59c9ea6b6f242c3c570

Smashed the glass over the rear camera on a Galaxy S20 last night. I called a man in Peckham who said he could replace the glass for about £25 "if it was just the glass that was broken and not the lens itself". The camera seems to work fine apart from the occasional faint bit of refracted light on image but very almost not noticeable in most lighting. For a second opinion I called an iSmash store who said that they don't only replace the camera glass but replace the whole rear unit for £49.

Is it better to get the whole rear unit replaced or the cheaper camera glass replacement? Don't really know how reputable the guy who does the £25 glass replacement is, and whether that's more likely to lead to other damage to the phone than just getting the whole rear unit replaced by a more well known chain like iSmash

iPhone 12 Mini, replace motherboard. Need help.

Apparently my motherboard stopped working and my local repair shop asks a sum that I believe it's too much for what is worth this phone nowadays.

I've considered two options.

  • eBay/Aliexpress unlocked MoBo for +100€ with faceID
  • Used destroyed 12 mini for 60€ (display and back glass broken but still recieved notification owner says.

My question is if replacing with eBay board what exactly will stop working? I've read about battery and display messages about not beeing genuine. But will I be able to register phone with a new iCloud account or how?

And for the used phone. I guess I'll have to ask the owner the credentials to be able to use that phone. First maybe I should ask him IMEI so is not a blocked lost or stolen phone right?

I'm quite ignorant as you can see so any advice is welcome.

What should be done with cracked screens?

I imagine there’s no way to repurpose them for something like a raspberry pi with those probably proprietary connectors, but I’ve started a small collection and doubt a bunch of cracked screens will sell on eBay.

Question about iPhone PMU Power Management Short Circuit

I have an iPhone 11 Pro that briefly sustained water damage. The logic board is in decent condition. The main problem is that there are multiple short-circuits within the PMU chip itself. My question is: When the pmu gets short-circuited, does the electric charge usually travel past the pmu into connected chips like the cpu, nand, and eeprom and damage those chips too? Or is the damage usually contained to the pmu? Thanks for any insights.
