A subreddit for everything related to SMALL single-board computers. We don't have a strict definition of "mini PC", but a simple rule of thumb is:
Size: A mini PC refers to a compact, small-form-factor computer that offers many of the perks of a traditional PC but in a much smaller size. The smaller the better but it should be ultra portable.
Power Use: Mini PCs are usually equipped with high-end laptop components or a custom (SBC) single board computer, and therefore use much less power than a regular desktop PC.

Hey I'm from EU and got myself a sweet deal of AliExpress European warehouse of a barebone gmktec k8 plus for 329.
Now I'm getting crucial 32gb 5600 (2x16) and I'm looking for a decent pcie4 1tb nvme. The one's I'm looking so far are WD SN770 and crucial P3.
Any recommendations? Which one do you guys use on your mini pc? (pcie4)
Has anyone been able to install 32GB of RAM on a GMKtec G3? I now understand that I need to use a DDR4 SODIMM 3200MT/s 1600MHz module (where 1600MHz is the key). It seems reading online also some 2400MHz modules might work.
If you managed, can you please share the exact model of RAM (and possibly where you bought it from)?
I bought two off Amazon which don't work (3200MHz from Integral and Patriot) and I am going to return. I bought a third one from MemoryCow (1600MHz) but they won't accept a return if it does not work, so I might return before opening.
I had been eying these off for a while in situations where a client has a PC/Laptop that performs a single function (Laser cutter/engraver, Cardiac Heart Monitor, and needed to replace the PC. But as the performance grows I am getting the impression they are suited to much much more - users workstation. Its just that initial trial of one that is needed to get it on my recommended product list for my clients.
So, I will eventually have to replace my laptop which I have used for the last 8 years, and figured I might as well buy something that can play beefy games (right now I'm mainly interested in Final Fantasy XVI, but the more future-proof the better, I definitely wanna play Expedition 33, and the previews make it look fairly heavy performance-wise).
So my question is: Is it worth to go with a mini PC for something like this AND what mini PC can get run this kind of games and how much will it cost me?
How much more expensive would it be that getting a laptop or a big desktop with the same performance?
I value portability very highly, as I move frequently, and a desktop is a big hindrance. But I'd rather go with a mini-pc than a laptop because I think they're more repairable? Am I correct in thinking so or do most mini PC just use laptop parts nowadays?
Hello!
I have a question about gaming. I’m looking for a mini pc to hook up on my tv so I can game on that (with controller).
The games I want to play are PoE 2 and Hearthstone.
What do you guys recommend for this? Price point around the €300.
Thanks guys!
So, about 8 months back I bought a beelink SER5 Pro.
At first, it ran well. Large excel files took a couple seconds more than usual to open. I figured the hard disk wasn't the best. But then, considering the price point I figured I would be able to live with it.
But nowadays, it takes quite a while to open files. Note that my 'large' excel files are at most 10 MB.
Add to that, sometimes the PC will just crash. Not to mention occasional bluetooth disconnections. All of these require restarts.
I opened the task manager and noticed that when these 'large' excel files are being opened, the CPU usage goes to 100%. However, the hard disk usage does not seem to spike alarmingly.
It seems to me that this PC won't make it to 2 years of use. It's surprising given the hardware overkill and my light usage of this PC.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
completely new to mini pcs here (and to pcs in general, been using macs for most of my life). Decided to switch after realizing emulation via crossover and parallels just wasn't scratching my gaming itch for other unsupported titles.
Recently got the ser8 8745 for around 500 on the cyber Monday sale and I'm planning to use it mainly for shooters at the *lowest* possible settings at 1080p 165hz (ow2, apex, tf2) along with some indie titles like ultrakill, so I'm not really pushing the ser8 to the brink of death.
However, I keep hearing horror stories of mini pcs just suddenly not working after a month into use, poor customer support, and overall people not getting their money's worth in the longevity of the unit. I would just like to know the steps I can take to make this thing last around 4-5 years? Should I shut off the unit every time I'm not using it? Do I gotta clean the insides every now and then? Any/all tips are appreciated!
I’ve been using a portable monitor for both work and gaming, and there are a few things that make all the difference. For work, I really appreciate a larger screen with good resolution, especially when I’m juggling multiple tasks like spreadsheets and video calls at the same time. It makes life so much easier, and I’m way more productive with the
When I’m gaming, though, it’s all about the visuals. Playing Mario Kart 8 on my Switch looks so much better on a high-res screen—colors pop and the action feels smoother. It really does make a difference in my experience.
Portability is also a huge factor for me. Whether I’m working at the coffee shop or bringing my setup to a friend’s house for gaming, I need something that’s easy to carry around. I’ve found that a lot of portable monitors are lightweight and built for that kind of convenience, which I really appreciate.
As for connectivity, that’s something I’ve learned the hard way. It’s such a headache when a monitor doesn’t connect properly, so I always go for ones that support USB-C or HDMI. Those connections tend to be reliable and save me a lot of frustration.
Lastly, if I’m gaming or doing any kind of creative work, I need good color accuracy. It’s a game-changer (literally) when the colors are vibrant and clear, instead of washed-out or dim. I also pay attention to brightness and contrast, because I’ve noticed that it can make a big difference depending on where I’m using the monitor.
Anyone else have things you look for when picking a portable monitor? I’d love to hear what’s worked for you or what you consider dealbreakers!
Hello! Been a silent reader for a while now as I’m still fairly new to MiniPCs. But after reading a bunch in here and deciding on my needs, I’ve decided to go with Reatan Alloy 9.
Since it was Black Friday sale, I decided to purchase the device thru its main website (reatan(.)com) instead of the Amazon store. However, when I pushed through with everything, I only got a confirmation that they have received my order but it was on-hold until they’ve received my order. I paid with credit card, so it should be instantaneous, but I waited anyway and slept on it.
I still haven’t received any updates that it’s been shipped or what and tried contacting them and still no response. I’m a bit worried now, but I figure I’d checked in with you guys if anyone here has experienced purchasing through their website itself.
Any advice is really appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Reading through this subreddit, I often see comments like “Brand X is unreliable, you should go with Brand Y” (feel free to substitute Brand Y with your favorite company).
Negative statements tend to leave a stronger impression than positive ones. So, I’m curious—how much trust do you actually place in various companies?
I’m not a fan of negativity, nor do I want to single out any company unfairly. But since Reddit polls only allow one choice, I thought this format might be a good way to gauge the general consensus on which companies people believe should be avoided.
(As for my wish, I truly hope “All good” gets the most votes!)
I’m completely clueless when it comes to computers so I’m looking for a mini pc for video editing and for my gf to play sims 4. Also what would I need for a dual monitor setup $500-600 budget!
I got a UM760, did a fresh Win11 install and got the drivers from their website. The chipset and graphics .exe files installed fine. The WiFi, Realtek audio, and Realtek Ethernet driver are .bat files. I double clicked them, cmd opened and did its thing, but none of these drivers installed. I was able to find a Lenovo driver for the WiFi, as it was the same MTK_RZ616 chipset, but I was only able to do that because the folder with the .bat file was labeled. The Realtek and Ethernet drivers aren’t labeled, so I don’t know how I can get them. Any advice or suggestions as to what I may have done wrong would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I treated myself and I bought a Minix Z100. I will use it as a server to install NextCloud, a photo portal, and many other things. Out of curiosity, I might install Proxmox to create virtual machines.
Bundled sale of Windows with hardware
Unfortunately, the Minix machine comes with a Windows license. Windows is tied to the hardware, but I will never use Windows. I haven't used Windows for a while now, both as a server and as a workstation. Windows does not provide me with any added value compared to Linux, and I see no interest in this OS.
Windows is a bundled sale with the hardware, I would like to request a refund for the license on principle.
Why should I buy a license that I am not going to use? It's not normal. Unfortunately, Microsoft puts pressure on hardware manufacturers to make it as opaque as possible.
Rival operating systems are invisible to the general public, so they develops slowly and struggle to improve.
Wishing for the competition that to have the opportunity to make itself known to the general public, I believe it is important to request a refund for the license. The more people who request a refund for the license, the more likely it is that manufacturers will offer it more easily.
The steps for a refund that I could read :
How ?
Where can I get a refund form for Minix ? How can I insist on a refund by arguing that it is a bundled sale ?
I am about to replace an old Dell desktop, and would like to explore mini PCs. It would only be utilized for basic web, browsing, e mail, etc. Since I have to connect wirlessly for internation, do most of these mini PCs come with wi-fi adapters, or would I need to purchase or add this separately? Thanks for any suggestions!
Hi everyone, first post here so please bear with me :)
I have a bit of a weird use case: I would like a powerful mini pc that would spend most of its time sitting snugly beside my living room TV (hence not wanting a laptop), mainly to be used for last-gen single player/couch coop games and 4k movie watching.
However sometimes, for both personal and work reasons which are not really relevant here, it would be really useful to be able to easily bring this machine to rather remote areas, where it would be hooked up to a portable projector (hence again not wanting a screen/laptop) and used for the exact same purposes as above. So, in terms of requirements:
Should be powerful enough to play last-gen AAA 1440p games comfortably & 4k movies (so no noisy fans). This is with a view to performance, of course, but I also would like this machine to last into upcoming AAA games (say, for example, whatever graphically upgraded version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comes to PC), while acknowledging that I might have to lower some settings.
Linked to the above, it should be easy to clean/maintain/upgrade in the future, and have decent customer service. The latter is also why I am looking for pre-built, rather than building from scratch, something I am not very confident about.
Should be as small, compact and portable as possible (no more than ~4 liters volume, I'd say), which is why I am not really considering an eGPU docking option. Bonus points if it is shaped to fit into laptop bags.
Only if possible given all the above requirements, it should be solid and well built (I hesitate to use the term "rugged", which I know is for a separate class of machines), or at least not be too flimsy.
Low-ish power consumption would also be a nice bonus.
The options that caught my eye all have some issues:
Minisforum G7 PT is welded together and not really upgradable, I understand. Its performance seems great now, but might not be entirely up to scratch in 2-3 years. Also I hear that Minisforum Customer Service is not always up to scratch?
Minisforum G7 TI seems better from the upgradability perspective, but looks a bit flimsy and prone to overheating, and I heard there might be big issues with the intel chipset it uses? This plus the customer service concerns makes me quite cautious.
ASUS ROG NUC (or the barebones "Performance" version, which a few sites like iCubes also offer to customise in various ways) actually seems to absolutely tick all the boxes, but seems a tad overpriced. Also for some reason seems to often perform below the previous two machines, particularly for slightly older games?
Money is not a huge issue (though of course I don't want to be ripped off), and I feel inclined towards the last option (particularly the "Performance" version, unless there's anything wrong with it that I missed), as I feel it would make for a better long term investment, considering its build and access to hopefully decent customer service.
However, I am not really in any kind of hurry, so I wanted to really explore all the options.
Have I missed or misunderstood anything important? Or, to conclude, is there any machine set to come out in the next 8-10 months that might constitute a good alternative, or at least drive the ASUS prices down?
TL;DR: small, powerful, upgradable mini pc that will last me at least few years of AAA gaming and excursions - either out now, or in the coming year. :)
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hey all! I've never used Aliexpress, but it seems like some of you have had good luck with them. I bought a Beelink SER8 from Amazon a few months back and have loved it. I'm considering purchasing a Mini PC to use my GTX 1080TI that's been gathering dust. Some other posts suggest that Oculink is better than USB4 for EGPUs, and the GMKTec K8 Plus looks like a good value to game with (but correct me if I'm wrong or if a better value option is still on sale).
GMKTec Barebones @ 341.98: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806357239604.html
^ But from GMKTec Official Store @ 357.79: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807577748539.html
Or I could purchase from GMKTec directly @ 389.99: https://www.gmktec.com/products/amd-ryzen-7-8845hs-mini-pc-nucbox-k8-plus
How's the GMKTec K8 Plus for Gaming with an EGPU? How does the DOA rate on Aliexpress compare with Amazon? Does GMKTec's 1-year warranty work if I buy off of Aliexpress? Do these listings look reputable? What are the "buyer beware" details or tips I should know? I just want to vet this purchase through Reddit first, haha!
Thanks Reddit!
Anyone order a Peladn product directly from their website? I got the HA4 7840Hs during the Black Friday sale and was wondering how long it might actually take to arrive. The confirmation email they sent said it would take 2-5 days, I figured that was inaccurate however it's been about a week and I still haven't received a tracking number.
Anyone else catch it? I made a similar post about a month ago wondering when we might start seeing RDNA 4 in mini PCs but I'm optimistic about Battlemage making it's way to miniature land as well.
Looks like the race will be between Battlemage and RDNA 4 to see who can start showing up on minis first. Time is on my side, no hurry but I can't wait!
For me, I'm finished building these massive tower computers with a single drive and a big $500+ GPU and lots of empty space inside. I want something compact that can handle a FEW triple A games running at a minimum of 60fps in 1080p or 1440 with some/most/all :) of the settings turned up.
Even my kids think these RGB monster cases are silly and hate how much space they consume. They are minimalists and I love it!
Hi, so I need help. I'm no expert in specs. Was going to build my own machine, and I still may do so, but I'm not up to date on hardware, and would love the expertise of some people who are.
What I'm looking for: I don't game. I don't want any kind of funny business- weird lighting. Better if its not super loud. This is strictly a work machine. I need the machine to be able to support multiple VMs at once without any hiccups. I might edit music on it. I use Linux exclusively. I want specs on the machine that will allow it to last for a long time (I replace my machines once every seven years or so)... so I want the most up to date, high speed processor/most ram support I can get on a smaller (doesn't have to be nuc sized) machine.
Does anyone know of a prebuild like this? I'm so sick of these giant gaming towers. If I wanted to see neon, I'd visit Toyko.

I currently use an AceMagic AM18 with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and the Ryzen 7 8845HS chip, I’m considering upgrading to this one since I plan to play some more games that go above 1080p.
Hey, I'm an engineering student and I'm looking for a cheap, thin and light laptop. I checked out Nipogi's A1K PLUS and the price appealed to me. I don't need any computing power as I will be doing CAD or larger calculations on my gaming PC at home and accessing it remotely using parsecs.
I am willing to buy a used A1K, can anyone sell it to me? and i live in spain. Other recommendations are also very welcome. Thanks
This year I've been using a Karmui AK1 Plusand a 14tb Seagate external drive. It has been working great and seems to be keeping up with what's needed. I was thinking of upgrading to a 4 bay DAS. I'm looking at the Terramaster D4-320
What are your opinions on going this route?
My mom's pc recently broke, and I’m planning to buy her a new one for her birthday, which is in a week. The problem is, I’m not sure which one to get. She needs a portable pc for work, since she’s a lawyer. pls help
I’m looking for a computer and I don’t have much money, this seems like a good option, but I’ve never heard of this brand before. Does the brand matter for security? Like would a namebrand like Kamrui be safer than this It says it operates on windows does that matter I’m not gonna be doing any super sensitive stuff, but I might use the computer to like go on the DMV website or check bank information I wanna make sure they’re not gonna steal all my information it’s gonna be mostly be used for school.
There are a couple of questions:
NVME SSD works in Pсi-E x1. The latest BIOS update (P2.20.0) should have fixed the bug, but the speed is still x1. There are several topics on the Fujitsu technical support forum. Is there still no solution?
My new monitor (3440x1440 165Hz) does not work above 100Hz. I tried different DP cables and connection via Type C. Is this a limitation of Intel HD 630? According to the specification, the ports are DP 1.4.
Recomendación de página web o tienda para comprar Aoostar GEM12 o GMKtec K8 plus, no tuve buena experiencia previa con Aliexpress y quisiera reducir el riesgo.
