A subreddit for everything related to SMALL single-board computers. We don't have a strict definition of "mini PC", but a simple rule of thumb is:

Size: A mini PC refers to a compact, small-form-factor computer that offers many of the perks of a traditional PC but in a much smaller size. The smaller the better but it should be ultra portable.

Power Use: Mini PCs are usually equipped with high-end laptop components or a custom (SBC) single board computer, and therefore use much less power than a regular desktop PC.

Minisforum MS01?

I am planning to buy minisforum MS01 i5 / i9 version with vPro. While I am also comparing it with other intel (vpro) mini pc from asus. Eg ASUS NUC 14 PRO with vpro

Does anyone have experience using ms01?

Is the Vpro feature stable on ms01?

Does MS01 supports windows 10 iot ltsc?

How stable is the ms01 now?

Does ms01 crashes or overheat?

How’s the MS01 Quality (QA)?

Any comments is welcome :)

Thanks guys

UM 790 Pro Bottom Ram and Storage fan grinding fixed.

Short Solution Loosen the four bottom screws a bit to give it space.

I had an issue where the bottom was grinding. The fix for me was pretty simple, and may work for you. The minisforum support rep wanted a video of the issue and would send a replacement fan. I had occasion to loosen the screws to take it off but I immediately noticed an improvement. So I loosened all 4 corner screws by maybe half. I have not had the issue since and I know the fan has gone off. It appears as though the screws can over tighten on the fan. Manufacturing defect for sure but probably the easiest thing to try. If it works for you, sweet headache over.

Minisforum UM780 experience anyone ?

I’m looking to buy one and add 96GB ram for a home lab situation. Anyone that has recommendations for dimms and anything helpfully in general ?

Or any input about what would be a much better solution taking memory/core ration into consideration.

Good enough for Fallout New Vegas with mods?

Looking at buying this Trigkey 5700u mini pc https://amzn.eu/d/6pffQdQ

Main things I want to play are Fallout New Vegas and football manager. I'd like to be able to mod New Vegas a bit to improve textures and performance. I'm not expecting to play any games much more demanding than that. Is this PC alright? It seems to be the best value available in my country without spending €500+

New Mini PC used as a remote computer. Problem with mouse cursor and a couple questions.

I got a Bosgame H77 with a 7735HS. I reformatted and reinstalled windows right away. There was a problem with activation and Bosgame immediately provided me a new key. I installed all the drivers from the website and my win 11 pro is fully updated.

I remote into this machine for everything.

My biggest problem is the mouse cursor. My cursor is either a dot or non existent depending on the device I remote in with. This makes it impossible to use on some of my devices. How do I fix this? I tried plugging a wired mouse in but it didn't help.

Along the same line, it is hard to resize windows when there is no cursor. The cursor does not change to the resize arrow and I just have to guess that I have the edge of the window.

My Bosgame H77 is a clone of the Beelink SER6 7735HS. It has 512 of storage. It has a slot for a 2.5 SATA drive. If I throw in a SSD, will it mess up thermals or airflow? Do you think it will be better to get a 2TB m.2 drive for $130 or a 2.5 SATA drive for about $120?

How do I make sure I have the most optimized drivers? I grabbed the ones from the manufacture website. I am not very computer literate and just want to make sure I am fully optimized. What is the best free way to benchmark my new computer and compare it against others?

I mainly use Chrome Remote Desktop. It is alright, but do you use anything else that may be better and more efficient if I am on the same network? I also use Steamlink with my Retroid Pocket 4 and use that as basically a mini steam deck.

Budget mini for office use

I'm looking for a budget mini ($200-300USD range) to use at our local Moose lodge for basic office tasks as well as connecting to a Moose Box (mag card reader). Looking at a couple of options, one being a B6 Plus with an i3 10th Gen - the other being a SER5 with a 5500 series Ryzen.

The current computer is a dinosaur so either of these will probably be a welcome upgrade but I don't know if the SER5 is overkill for what is needed? I also don't know about the build quality of the Bmax and whether I want to risk it just to save a couple bucks.

Good PC for a beginner

Hello! I'm new here. I'm looking to buy my first PC. I'm looking for something that's pretty low budget, like below $500. I don't need much graphic wise, I really just want to play games like minecraft and fortnite. Portwise I don't need much, but I at least need good HDMI ones. Upgradeability would be nice. Any suggestions?

Recommendation for Mini PC

Hi guys,
I am looking for a mini PC to replace a big one I have, which I am using a homelab server.

I am currently running CentOS 6 with 2 x 2.5 SATA SSDs in RAID1. I know its old and outdated, but upgrading all my software on it means way too much work, which I don't feel like doing, so I am just running it with internet cut-off and I am happy with it. If I have to change hardware, I dd-clone my disks or move them to the new box.

I want to switch to a mini PC with NVMe disks, so I started looking for a replacement and I tried HP EliteDesk 800 G4 DM and Lenovo M920x Tiny. Both support two NVMe slots and can run in RAID-1.

However, both have an Intel L219-LM NIC, which is incompatible with CentOS 6. I tried the elrepo drives, suggested on some forum posts, I found but it results in "lshw -class network" returning "Segmentation fault" and possibly other bugs.

Are there any other models with 2 NVMe slots and possibly an older NIC or the only option is these two with a USB-to-Ethernet NIC?

Looking for a $100-200 mini pc that supports 4 (four) displays

Basically, as per title

I ordered a SZBOX W6 from AliExpress. Didn't come. Ordered the same one from DHGate. Didn't come. They seem to be out of stock everywhere I look now

There are lots of similar models (e.g. Chatreey T9) which have a similar spec as the SZBOX W6 (N100, 2xHDMI, 2xUSB-C) but only claim to support 3 4k displays (I don't care about 4k)

Is there any chance they're underselling them? Because it's the same processor as the W6 and has all the same ports, so why couldn't it support 4 displays? (Checked a review and both USB-C ports output video)

So can you look at the Chatreey T9 and tell me what you think, or recommend a similarly priced 4-display mini PC?

Thanks

Australian Power Supply For Minisforum MS-01

Hi all.

I am looking at ordering an MS-01 which appears to be a great device that should serve my needs for a decade+. However something I noticed is the US power adapter. Australia, where I am located, has a different electricity standard (AC vs DC and different plug design).

I'm ignorant about how cabling and electricity works but figure it's a bad idea to use a US>AUS adapter at the wall considering the value of the device. Therefore I'm seeking advice to see if/how I could source an Australian power cable rather than using a US>AUS power adapter.

This appears to be the power supply provided by Minisforum.

Can I just switch out the "end" cable that connects the power brick to the wall or do I need to source an alternative power supply entirely?

Thanks

HP prodesk 400 G3 1Gb ethernet nic

Hello! I recently got a used HP prodesk 400 G3. It has a VGA port in the expansion slot (flex IO), however I would like to have an additional ethernet port instead. I found on the internet this ethernet expansion port "HP pca FlexIO NIC 1P 1GBE L04211-001" but I wasn't able to find much information on it.

Do you know if it is compatible with my model? Are you using this expansion port?

NFS Heat lags on UM790 Pro

Hello guys I have a UM790 Pro and have the GPU set to 8gb. I can play Forza on ultra at 2k getting 33-44fps, Grid Autosport Ultra getting 44fps but NFS Heat on low settings still lags. It's as if I'm playing on win 10 with no display driver. The game looks awful and stutters. I downloaded the game from Gaming Beasts. Anyone else have this issue or knows a fix? Thanks

Any recommendations, use for factorio and automation games

I have a laptop that’s chugging along and since I only plan on playing low intensity games and maybe some mods adding a little extra ram use. For right now my estimated budget is 300-400 I’m not sure where to buy I’ve only heard about buying from direct seller. I’m not really “loyal” to any brand as long as setup is easy and reliable.

Replace old NAS with mini PC

Hi,

I am currently in the process of upgrading my home server (which used to be a Raspberry Pi 4) to a more powerful yet energy efficient mini pc to run some virtual machines, Plex, Home Assistant, Adguard, etc. on. I was thinking about a N100 (like a Beelink or something).

Since I have a very old and very, very slow Synology NAS, I plan to replace this device as well. After I only used the NAS to store mainly home videos and photos as well as backups of my Raspberry Pi, I now want to find out more about whether this functionality could also be migrated to the Mini PC.

My biggest concerns are:

  • What kind of storage do I need? In the NAS are 2 x 3.5'' SATA hard drives (each 2TB), but most Mini PCs only have limited connectors for hard drives.
  • I plan to use proxmox, but don't want to run a virtualized TrueNas. Instead I want to create a ZFS directly with proxmox and manage it with Cockpit (because I read that TrueNas requires a lot of RAM and an N100 officially only allows a maximum of 16GB). Assuming the Mini PC has a NVMe SSD and a SATA SSD, can I just use a large SSD for data storage and the NVMe for the VMs/LXCs?
  • Does it make sense to get an external hard drive enclosure instead of the internal SSD in order to be able to provide more storage space than a single SSD and continue to use the hard drives I already have?

Before someone is making suggestions for a professional NAS system, I would just like to briefly mention what is important to me. I need the storage for backing up photos and videos, as well as making them available to Plex.

I am currently using 2x2TB hard drives in Synology Hybrid Raid and around 60% of them are occupied. Since I've had the system for over 11 years, I probably won't be able to fill up the storage for the next few years, so I don't need 80 TB of storage.

But I still want to have a certain level of security that the data won't disappear somehow, so some sort of mirroring would be nice (which ZFS provides as i read).

Work has monitors available, mini PC a good option to commute with?

I work in an incubator space that has decently sized monitors available to use in a shared space. Everyone I've seen uses a laptop with them. However, after lurking in this sub I'm thinking a mini PC might be the best bang for the buck, but would really appreciate thoughts from you guys.

Other factors: -I'm looking for something to use at work and home and carry with me both ways. I drive and basically walk 3 blocks (if that matters).

-I have an old Dell XPS laptop that I travel with and also a tablet that I rarely use (impulse buy). The Dell has some minor issues but good enough for when I absolutely need a laptop (ie. planes, and I rarely fly).

-i need a decent CPU and RAM for the scientific data analysis I do, but entry level GPU is fine. This is actually what made me start looking at mini PCs because it seems like you get more "bang for your buck" with mini PC ram and cpub compared to laptop

-keyboards are relatively inexpensive so I could leave one at work and keep one at home. Unless you all know of one that is not super tiny that is decent for commuting with

If you think a mini PC would be a good option do you have any recommendations (or brands) to get or to avoid? I was looking at eBay refurbished, and had no idea how many different options are available.

Price range is ideally $200-$300 (but could go up to $500). I was thinking "certified refurbished" but again I know little about this so tell me if that's not the best idea
