Haven’t followed the MAC this year but Purdue is a terrible team.
Alright, I mathed yall.
To GUARANTEE a spot in the MACCG the next two weeks, these are the most direct paths/rooting interest for your contenders from easiest to hardest.
BG: win out, you’re in. Simple
Miami: win out, you’re in. Simple
Ohio: win out, you’re in. Simple
Toledo: must go 2-0, needs UB to drop a game, and to avoid tie-breakers after the first one, root for BG to beat Miami. UB would be 5-3 in this scenario. Toledo, Miami, Ohio would all be 6-2, Toledo would be 2-0 vs the other two, tie-breaker ends, Toledo to the MACCG.
Buffalo: rooting for Toledo to go 2-0, Ohio to go 0-2, and for their best shot, BG to go 0-2. Miami would be 7-1, BG would be 5-3, Ohio would be 5-3, Toledo 6-2. UB owns H2H with Toledo, UB to Detroit.
WMU: technically (mathematically) still alive, but the scenarios near impossible. Needs to win out, needs Toledo to go 1-1 (ideally 0-2), Ohio 0-2, BGSU 0-2, and UB 1-1 (ideally 0-2). Then it’s a three way tie with Ohio, BG, WMU (possibly adding Toledo and UB). Then it hits wonky tie-breakers that WMU may not win. It’s complex and I’m still working it out, but WMU is literally on life support.

Most of the MAC universities are in trouble in regard to enrollment, institutional debt, and athletics debt. Each university might not have all three of these problems at the moment, but it seems we are moving toward a situation in which the MAC universities are going to struggle and fail to finance Division 1 football. We see that Akron and Kent are in the most obvious trouble based on the long-term failure to field even mediocre football teams. Yes, I know that Sean Lewis did a good job at Kent for a few years and Bowden got UA to a couple bowl games; in both cases the modicum of success still led to more athletic debt for both universities. However, can there be any MAC athletic department that isn't in debt right now, surviving mostly on student activity fees to fund most of the budget? I write this today thinking about what is to come, namely that the Power4 are going to move to a model in which they play fewer and fewer OOC games, which are major sources of revenue for every MAC program and the G5 in general. I think Akron received $4-5 million this year for three OCC games. Take away even one of those "blood money" games and an already debt-heavy athletic department ceases to function. This is likely true from Buffalo to Muncie. Something has to change. Can the MAC survive as a G5, FBS conference? Should it?
I am still working out the #MSCnarios, but as it sits right now, two spots are open and SEVEN teams are alive!
Three need to just simply win out and they are in (the BGSU-Miami game will feed FAMILIES)
Four teams need to win out or get to at least five wins and need some help (NIU needs an incredible amount of help, but they are still mathematically alive!)
Big stories to watch next week:
Ohio @ Toledo (Toledo needs to win to avoid being eliminated, and NIU needs Toledo to win to say alive)
WMU @ CMU (WMU would like to win in order to stay alive, and NIU needs them to lose to either CMU or EMU next week)
NIU @ Miami (Huskies must win!)
Buffalo @ EMU (Bulls would like the win to stay alive, but this is a game they can drop for an eventual six-team tie for second place, and then tie-breakers)
How much are we sweating, #MACtion fans?
Plenty of happenings in Toledo athletics this past week. XC, Volleyball, Men's and women's Sun Belt challenge, a recap of Toledos game vs. EMU and predictions vs. the Chips to start MACtion!

Kind of sad to see Kent fall so bad. Played there when we were good under Lewis and a little under Haynes. So sad to see us win out 1st bowl and looking so promising when it came to the future - to having a completely abysmal offense and defense. IDK alot of people I talk to say just go AA but, I personally believe it depends on the coach. Went 1-12 / 2-10 some years and had talented guys on the field. I think it falls on coaching...but regardless I dont think they will ever figure it out with Burns at the helm.
Last night didn’t take them out of the race for a MAC title, but it complicated things for them a bit.
Here is one solution to the level of complication ahead of the Broncos. They can possibly look at a three way tie and be left home on tie breakers.
Their best hope? Win out, hope for a Miami or an Ohio loss.

HUGE weekend in the Hate Pod for Toledo and BG as the Falcons try to nudge in front of the Rockets and stay alive for the MACC in Detroit. The road team has been Triumphant lately, but Toledo has been tough at home.
