Known for its darkness, heavy bass, and fast flows; Memphis Rap originated in the early '90s with the likes of DJ Squeeky, DJ Zirk, DJ Spanish Fly, and early Three 6 Mafia. Perhaps most notably, it was Memphis Rap, along with Miami Bass, that laid the groundwork for Crunk and Trap. Memphis Rap was crucial to the Horrorcore movement, as its grimey and often sinister production complemented its hardcore lyricism. Additionally, it was the first style of rap to feature true tongue twisting.

Simple question, who are you guy's fav memphis rappers rn. Looking to get into more new shit. Thanks for the help.
So, I'm a weirdo that is part of a very niche group of people looking for clean stuff. And I have a massive collection of clean versions of albums ripped or downloaded in lossless. A lot of them are very rare, promo only versions.
My absolute white whale is the clean version of Koopsta Knicca's Da Devil's Playground: Underground Solo. I have every other clean version of a Three 6 (or affiliated) album. I'm not certain this even exists, but there's a listing on Discogs that apparently 6 people own. I've messaged the three that are public and have gotten no reply. I've been waiting for years and a copy has never gone onsale.
I wanted to reach out here to see if A: anyone can confirm it actually exists? And B: If it does, and somebody has it, if they'd sell it to me/rip it and send it to me/anything?? I will pay a decent amount for it, physically or digitally. Physically moreso, obviously..
I think everybody here knows what Im talking about...artists/producers mixing up ~3-5 different tapes into one and branding it as a new release (or worse: as an old lost release).
I just want to hear the tapes in their full original forms, even if they were unfinished....Im kind of horrified to see what becomes of the legendary Playa Posse "Wako Tape" for one, it seems its being re-recorded (but then again I could be wrong). That or the songs are being split into 5 different compilations.
was listening to this neil young album just the other day, and bumped into this peculiarity...
listen the piano chords, going into the chimes starting at 1:20. the rhythm seems to be off at first, but the accents making sense if you start counting on the second beat. what really seals the deal for me are the chimes at the end of that thing, which are, as i can tell, pretty much identical. it's just a matter of speeding it up/timing it correctly with the original (even the remaster has a lot of surface noise and it's hard to tell)
what do you think?

Shout out to Prophecy for uploading this music video and producing this track.
A modern track from M.C. XII and Shawty Pimp featuring Smurf Diggidy and produced by Prophecy. It's definitely different from the mainstream modern Memphis Rap and a lot of the stuff that most of the other Memphis legends are doing nowadays. According to the description, this song is off of Woke Up In The Studio".
Sealed too I believe
Hello! Iβve seen in this sub thereβs a couple post regarding Memphis acapellas but I donβt find really professional acapellas to play for my setsβ¦ do you know any way I can find these?
Thanks!!
In the last couple year I lived in Memphis, 2005-2007, there was a local song that would get played on K97 that no one in the years since has been able to help me identify. Some friends think I made it up, Iβm pretty sure I didnβt (though I did once make up a line of dialogue that I was certain was actually in The Big Lebowski).
The call & response chorus goes:
North Memphis We like to rob and kill North Memphis Ooo they say weβre mentally ill
Itβs not βNorth Memphisβ by Project Pat but probably consciously references that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Made a little beat, inspired by DJ Livewireβs style Rest In Peace Livewire
Somewhere guys.. somewhere there's a King Dogg Snoopy Pimp lurking π
I LOVE THIS BOOK ... HAVE ANY OF YOU READ IT?
But I was removed by the lead admin based on a claim of me being "racist". Racist because another admin disagreed with me calling out people being offended by Ruby Bridges's history.
Make it make sense...I will have a video addressing this soon. Memphis rap is about the struggle and overcoming it and racism. Yet a diehard fan is ws offended over me asserting my point as a man of color? Wild.
No text on the other side pad pressing is one sided only!
Always
It sounds good but Iβm just curious was there a reason they did it so much?
