I've been pondering the idea of making some kind of Melvins + Melvins adjacent archive somewhere, so I've been looking into ways to do that. Anyways, I have some requests that don't need to be overthought and are just some things I want for my personal archive that someone may have lying around in the dust somewhere. Here are a few:
- Melvins concert videos from 1990-1999 (would like some from Tennessee since that is where I grew up and live haha) (a long shot but a video of the shortly lived Taj Mahal set from 1992 is really wanted)
- Old photos from before 2007
- Concert or Interview mp3s
- Older magazine scans
- Obscure merch items (like the rest of the zippo lighters sold at Melvins shows in the early 2000s. not just the singles zippo lighter)
- Something weird but the "lost" scrapped song from Stag, not Fick Fader (already uploaded on Youtube) but the song called "Neptune" . Just want answers to if it is actually an early Specimen or not or if it's another song entirely.
- Melvins army stuff from the fanclub!!
That is all for now, if you have any suggestions LMK. Sorry if this is asking for too much I just have mid-functioning autism!! but you could probably tell already.. Thanks to anyone who can help me out, I'm a lot younger than a lot of people here so I don't have any personal artifacts yet
I used to be a rock show promoter in my home town of Memphis, TN, 15 years ago, and I wrote a Substack series on my top ten favorite shows that I put on. One of them was the Melvins at my old bar, Last Place On Earth back in 2000. You can read about it here.
This was when they played two 45 minute sets with no support, The best Melvins show I ever saw (I'm definitely biased).
please, need help
One of the extras just has the album stoner witch and the other has single song named Buick Mackane on the compilation great Jewish music: Marc Bolan.
Just curious. I play bass, and the first song I ever learned was Night Goat. This would have been freshman year in high school, so the end of '96 into '97 (got the gear for Xmas). Simple, catchy, and crushes. I'll still go back to it and just jam it out in weird ways. Feels good.
Just another cover of the good song
For Melvin’s to do a record with 1972 Jethro Tull
my favorite song
the shitty sound quality tops it off
do you think it'll ever happen? that would be sick as hell.
Merzbow and Porn (another band that Dale was in) made an album together entitled "And The Devil Makes Three" and that shit was awesome, but seemingly no Melvins and Merzbow.
I live in Seattle and have loved the Melvin’s ever since 2019 when I first discovered them! They are fucking amazing I have almost all there albums, king buzzo, dale crover, red kross stuff, everything but they always play the showbox in Seattle and it’s 21+ so every time they come I haven’t been able too. 5+ years of seeing my favorite band rock out my local venue but I couldn’t actually get in. But this year They play Seattle June 2nd and I’ll be 21 by April!!! I’m so excited buzz is literally my musical hero
So I just listened to Prick a few times and thought about how different it is to their early works (Gluey, Houdini, Bullhead, Lysol, Ozma), I know it may be stupid to point out, but... Prick is apparently early demo sessions for Stoner Witch (not all, but some). The change between Stoner Witch and their early stuff is apparent and it is absolutely a banger of an Album. Controversial possibly to some, I think Stag is up there with Stoner Witch. These two albums are surrounded by two not-so-great albums, Prick and Honky. I personally think this era is what made Melvins something more (than a Sludge Metal Band). I personally love their early stuff the most but this transitional era of Melvins, I enjoy a lot (Also some of Honky is good imo). I don't know it is something I don't see lots about these two albums, then they go to the Trilogy. Which I have not listened to really. I listened to a few songs, but it did not hold my interest. I'll have to eventually dive into the Trilogy. I want to know about your thoughts on these "eras" of Melvins. I think the experimental era of Prick to Honky could be shrouded by some of their weirdest experimental music out there. The change though created imo something vastly different and was well needed for The Melvins. Some may be reading this and have a vastly different opinion and I may be way off on this as I just based this on my own listening experience (also I watched a video on Prick by the Bassist during this era, so that's also partly why. Highly recommend that video!). Hopefully I can get some insight from others on this topic!
I got time to wish awaaaaaay!
That’s all, I got nuthin’.
I have been lucky to see them play it twice and I'd argue it is one of my top 10 songs of all time. That main riff just has something so feel good-y about it. Should always be in their setlist imo.
Im dying to get my hands on this. Does anyone even know what im talking about? Someone dropped a fake one back in the day and it was better than the actual release i swear to god its was the tits.
Help!
