I don’t know chat, am I the only one who literally doesn’t understand what we are doing in class and also find the webwork insanely difficult? Like I went through the textbook and for some questions I still have no clue. I didn’t do very well on the midterm and I’m scared crapless for the final. I believe this is my sign to change majors and say goodbye to mathematics and computer science forever🫡
Hello! So I’m sci trying to apply to med and I need to take 2 engl courses that are bird enough and less time consuming so I can keep my GPA. I think I’m going to take WCOM 250 for one and I’m in between ENGL 204, 215 and 290 for my second. Any thoughts? Or maybe other recs? Thanks!!
I am dealing with the death of a parent this semester and wanted to ask if anyone knows about the flexibility around the S/U option? I have two electives this semester and already taking one S/U but am really, truly struggling to keep up with the second one and am wondering if anyone has been able to take two S/U in one semester / how it works. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm in BCom btw.
I have so many questions about my degree, doing a second degree, credits transfer, pathway to med school, etc that i cant find the answer to online.
Who should i email for these questions or to book an email for advisi by appointment?
Trying to lock in but I get drowsy as soon as I sit down and work. I already know of the standing desks in McLennan, the SSMU Building, and Leacock. Are there any more? (I figure we'll also end up compiling a decent list here seeing as the relevant older posts are all a few years old)
Hi all! I’m currently a first year student and I came in with 20 transfer credits. Due to my program’s specific requirements for classes, I was bumped to U1. However, i am missing a few credits to be U1 on minerva and was looking for online courses. However, I can’t seem to find anything about them online. Does anyone know anything about it?
I was also thinking of taking summer online courses, but my advisor told me it has to be done through another university?
While i’m at it, if anyone has recs for easy online courses during winter 2025- I’d love some ideas!
Last year (Winter 2024) I fell into a deep depressive state and failed 1 class which meant that I was missing 3 credits to graduate. I had already applied and got accepted to another degree at another university since I thought I was going to graduate that semester. I took a summer 2024 class and dropped it early on because my mental health was still in shambles. Over the summer I spoke to a lot of doctors and am feeling much better now. The issue is that I tried re-applying to McGill for the Winter 2025 session and they denied me because of me attending another university. Should I try again by omitting that I am taking courses elsewhere, or will they know? I really want my diploma lmao help 😭
TLDR; I am missing 3 credits for my diploma but I'm registered at another university and want to know how to get my diploma pls and thx
no caps allowed.
Hey guys having my psyc 215 final in a week or so with Lydon. Any tips? anything helps, i dont know what to expect at all :)
Hey McGill, if you're looking to take COMP 206/250/273 next semester, I made a Discord server for this!!!!! If you're in CS/Soft Eng/Comp Eng or a similar minor you might be familiar with the MATH 240 server if you're currently taking it. My server will work much the same, with somewhat similar rules. In the server guide section I compiled some resources for each of the 3 courses based on the syllabus if you are interested in starting early!
Here's the link if you're interested in joining: https://discord.gg/4daUZXT7X5
And please complete the course evaluation on myCourses for those taking COMP 202 rn as a reminder!
Trying to make a game with McGill lore! For now I have, flood girl, cloudberry the squirrel, the yearly lettuce contest, fight club in 2020-2021, and some movies/shows that were filmed on campus. Any other good ones out there? The funnier the better:)
hey so does anyone else feel literally so unbelievably fucked for the assignment and the midterm ! this class has single-handedly destroyed any and all faith or courage i had in myself prior to taking it
Anyone knows where we are going to take the exam? I only saw the time but no location yet
Going on exchange for winter 2025. I'm in management and there are limited classes for me to take. There are some finance major classes I would love to take but don't have the prerequisites for at McGill. For example, I want to take derivatives on exchange but haven't taken advanced bus stats. Has anyone heard of anyone doing something like this before?
y'all i dont get the way max fixed the grade
he said he divided the grade we got by 28 and multiplied it by 30.
This makes no sense to me. there were 2 bonus questions (4 marks total): the one with ETC and the one with bunch of graphs with intestine, muscle, brain. so shouldnt the exam be out of 26 and he should be adding the bonus point to the total points you got??
so lets say i got 18 points for the regular content and 4 points for the bonus, i should be getting 22/26 not 19.6/30 (with the math or wtv he did).
i feel like im getting scammed bruh
I really dont like it when my food is spicy so im scared for the final. Did anybody take the class before and can tell me how it was and how to prepare? Would be greatly appreciated!
i'm sure i'm not the only one who is feeling this way, but the two midterms we had were not very representative of the practice exercises they gave us to prepare for them. i have seen past semester midterms and they were all much more similar to what we practiced, and much easier than what our instructors deemed to be "fair" this semester.
with that said, i am not sure how to study for the final and i am quite concerned about my performance for the final. it also doesn't help that we haven't received our grades for the second midterm yet. does anyone have any ideas/recommendations of what to do to actually prepare properly this time? i can't be failing this class and retaking it next semester, the pain would be too much lol
Hi, is it common for Scantron to make mistakes? I and many of my friends have experienced having questionable bad grades just for it to be due to a mistake from the scanners (e.g: it didn't attribute the right amount of points for an answer). If this is a common thing, why do profs or departments keep using them instead of correcting them by hand, or why they don't configure them properly?
(I'm sorry if this sounds like a rage post, but I'm just sick of having to go on campus (2hours commuting) to office hours just to find out if my grade is my true grade or not)
hey there, i was planning to go to the great gatsby ball on friday, december 6th with a friend but they pulled out - my other friends are busy / uninterested. i would prefer not to go alone, so i am looking for anyone who might want to go with me just for fun and make a new friend???? (this is not a romantic proposition lol!!!)
if anyone is going and is cool with me joining them / open to making a friend, please send me a message, and if you didn't know this was happening and now want to go, tickets are $20 and you can access it through the ssmu.
thank you ☺️
Does anyone know what kinds of internships ITM majors usually get and what they do for work after they graduate? Is there any value in graduating as an ITM major over something like CS. The program description is very interesting to me and the classes seem interesting too but there isn’t much info on it online. Any opinions on the program or info would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
CIHR CGS-M app has a CCV component and damn thing’s got awfully-vague instruction coming with it. Anyone knows where we are to include the paid/unpaid internships & credited research courses?
Hey!
I'm about to go into my last semester at McGill as an undergrad international student (from the U.S.) and am planning on only taking 2 courses—meaning I'll have a lot of time on my hands. I'm looking for good jobs to do for maybe 20 hours a week that'll be flexible and decently paid. My French is probably C1 level and I'm comfortable speaking it, but embarassingly I sometimes can't understand thick québecois accents (working on it though) so I probably wouldn't want to be like customer service or something like that haha. I was thinking restaurant jobs since I've heard they pay decently in general especially with tips, but I don't really have any ideas. Has anyone had any good experiences with certain employers / found hidden gems? Also, it's not at all necessary, but I would love to work in the Plateau/Mile End!
Thanks! :)
hi guys! i’m not even sure if this is possible but does anyone have Science convocation tickets on Monday that they don’t need? i have a few friends who want to come but i can’t afford to buy tickets for 20$ + tx 🥲
For the record:
Calling people out on "pseudoscience" and "fake news" and "conspiracy theories" in this way, especially when the arguments are organized as such: this person believes A. and this is associated with B, C and D and D is going to kill us all... It is ONLY pushing the people that mistrust scientists FURTHER AWAY from hearing us. This is not a productive way to move forward and it is sad to see this Canadian University jumping in on the hysteria of US media & politics
hey guys!!
i am desperately looking for a phil210 tutor... the final is coming up and i am screwed...
also if anyone wants to start a study group, i would also love that because i think we need to support each other in these very very tough times... any help would be beyond loved thanks guys
Hey guys,
I am planning on doing my last semester before graduation in Japan (Fall 2025). Looking for people to connect with :)
I was walking around the McGill campus yesterday during my lunch break (I go to a nearby university but not McGill) when two people offered me a doughnut. I didn’t notice the Israeli flag draped over the back of the person handing out the doughnut until I walked away (Yeah, I know—I was being naive). Meanwhile, the second person was discreetly taking pictures without our knowledge—capturing both the flag and our faces clearly in the shots. I had to run after for them to delete the photos they had taken. First, they denied taking any pictures, claiming that if they had, it was accidental—but it clearly wasn’t. I felt dumb, deceived and ambushed. Is this a common practice on campus?
for everyone in MATH208, how are we feeling for the final? i feel like there's so much info in the course and i don't see why there's a written final for a course that was 99% coding.
anyone who took the class in the past, any advice would be good
As a first year student I’m curious as to why so many of you dislike the SSMU so much. Are there valid reasons?
