vb.metatag: unable to load object bundle executable

I'm currently utilizing vb.metatag within an M4L device to extract metadata from audio clips. However, I've encountered a small hiccup. When the Max editor is open, vb.metatag functions smoothly extracting artist information as expected. However, when I use it as an M4L device (with the Max editor closed), vb.metatag fails to work receiving this message: vb.metatag: unable to load object bundle executable

Any ideas on how to solve the problem?
I share my M4L device.

Is there a M4L device similiar to sample and hold, but without the randomness?

I'm looking for something like Dennis the Santis Sample And Hold.
https://maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=6936#19512

But instead of sending random values, I'm looking for a device which increments the value of a parameter of a specified value every time there's incoming MIDI.

Another thing could be something based on other waves such as saw, triangle and sines. Everytime a MIDI note is pressed, the device takes a value from the LFO, instead of continuously modulate the parameter.

is max4live and max msp the same if you don't use the live objects?

Is Max4Live and Max MSP the same if you don't use the live objects?

I am just asking because there don't really seem to be a lot of learning resources for m4l and maybe it's better to just get max msp and start learning it and then switch to m4l?

What's the biggest limitation you find when creating Max For Live devices?

Hi!

I'm working on a personal project and I would love your thoughts on what is the biggest limitation you find when creating your Max For Live devices. Like, "man, I'd really wish X could be done but it is just not possible".

Thanks very much for your input!

See which clip is playing via Live API

Is it possible to get the clip number of the clip that is currently playing via Live's API? I'm building a device that randomly places the loop star and loop end in a clip. Right now it only works with the clip in the first slot, but I'd like it to latch on to which ever clip is playing.

How can I record and playback in M4L?

Hi everyone,

I am just starting to learn Max For Live, but I am having a problem and need help.

Here is my M4L device:

https://preview.redd.it/nk4fupim8v391.png?width=1132&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f133888be56ea8067527bdb95e46df39234ab2d

I wanted to store the audio played in Live to the buffer in the M4L device. I played the track, toggled record~ in M4L, and the waveform appeared in waveform~, so it seemed to work. However, when I playback the stored audio with groove~, the pitch is different from the original audio. I am wondering why this is happening.

When I store the audio file directly into the buffer using replace, playback works as expected, so I have a feeling the cause is around record~, but I can't figure out where exactly it is.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Is it possible to implement the Recursive Rewind?

Hi everyone,

I'm a complete beginner about Max, so I'm wondering if I should pay Max's learning costs for this purpose. What I want to achieve is:

  • to rewind the playback position during recording and continue recording all of them.

People may wonder why I would want to do such a strange thing when I could just cut and paste manually and then play it back. But I want to use this "rewind" feature as a device because I want to sometimes control it and sometimes leave it to chance. In other words, what I need may be a bit like a device called Beat Repeat. The difference is that BeatRepeat is a device that "repeats a specific section" while it is On, whereas what I need is a device that "rewinds back to any point in time" while it is On.

There is one more important thing: I want it to be recursive. In other words, I want to constantly update the object being rewound. It might be easier to imagine the behavior of a "rewind" device that is turned on multiple times. Instead of rewinding sometimes a static song, I want to rewind recursively the whole thing that was rewound and played, over and over.

My English is not good so I will add an example:

Suppose the following string is the original music:

01234567... [a]

"Rewind" was turned on when playback reached to 5. And it rewound to 2. Continue playing:

012345 23... [b]

The problem appears when I "rewind" again after this. The next time I rewind, I want it to refer to [b], not [a].

If it always refer to static [a]:

012345 23 34567 56789...

When it always refer recursively:

012345 23 34523 52334...

I came here to fill in some of my doubts:

  1. Is my plan feasible with Max4Live? (If it's impossible in the first place, I have to find another way...)
  2. Is there a patch that already exists to accomplish this?

Any advice would be appreciated. I would be grateful if you could help me.

Thanks in advance!

Max 4 Live Programing Question

I want to make a max for live device that utilizes the looping feature on Ableton 11. I want the device to set the current tracks loop into a one bar loop, and then be able to extend or contract the loop with a couple of buttons. I think I have an idea as to how to approach this, but I donā€™t know any of the message commands in order to link data from that track into my max for live device. Let me know if thereā€™s like a cheat sheet or some sort of guide that has all these message commands.

Global Scale Solution?

Does anyone know of an ableton solution (Max or otherwise) that allows you to change the scale of incoming midi on multiple tracks at once? I've seen a max for live plugin that is a global transpose knob, something like that but specifically for changing scales is what I'm interested in. Thanks in advance.

Automation in Ableton always scaled?

When I make a patch and try to automate it, the window of automation lane is always scaled vertically. I remember this happening a while ago with other devices. Without resorting to the clip view to automate, can i fix this?

Max4Live Equivalent of Waves C4, C6, or FF Pro-MB?

I was wondering if anyone has made a Max4Live Ableton device that could replace Waves C6 Multiband Compressor? I have seen a 3 band one around for sale that looked interesting, not enough bands though. I use Waves C6 a lot, but it's heavy on the CPU. Was just checking in here to see if anything has been created with 4-6 bands and with the adjustments and band crossover transparency \sound quality of something like Waves C6 or Pro-MB?

ā€‹

Sorry if if I'm asking in the wrong sub, though you guys in here might know the most over the Ableton Racks Sub guys.

NEW Max for Live device "NotePad"

https://i.redd.it/lo1s6aouugy81.gif

Hi !

My new device "NotePad" is OUT !
https://arfal.gumroad.com/l/notepad

It took me way more time than I expected before starting it but it's now working fine !

Once again, you need ONLY 1 instance of "NotePad" in your session, place it anywhere you want ! (on the master seems logical IMHO)

Here is a bit of the description:

"As its name suggests, (again) "NotePad" allows you to take notes !
As far as I know, it's not revolutionary but there is few things to know about it..."

"The main purpose of this device is to allow you to take notes quickly with just one instance that you can keep under your eyes when you're working. More than just one page, here you got the whole block" :)

I hope you'll like it !

Stepper Midi Dvice

Hi im looking for a device that will trigger a step in a sequence of steps when a midi note is triggered.

Im sure there is a device out there that does this basically what im trying to do is use a piezo pick up on a drum set lets say on the kick. so every time i use the kick drum it triggers a midi note (via KTDRUMTRIGGER) lets say C3. i need a midi device that when C3 is triggered into a midi channel(i use ableton live) it triggers the devices first step and sends that information to an instrument of choice. When triggered again it hits the next step playing a different note or chord and so on. The idea is to be able to trigger different chords every time i hit the drum so the device will need to be able to trigger multiple notes on each step.

I posted this on reaktor forum to see if anyone could possibly help out and i did receive so good advice and a ensemble to try out but i figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here as well.

ā€‹

Also the best way comparison to what device im looking for is the STEPPER modulator in Renoise. overtime a note is played it moves on to the next step.

ā€‹

Also someone suggested i might be able to do with by Using a sequencer and having the speed or time set to be trigger by midi or impulse instead of the internal or master clock.

ā€‹

Sorry if this is confusing or there is a device that is common for this sort of stuff im not very familiar with MAX or Reaktor

View Switching vs Floating Windows

Anyone have any preferences over plugins using view switching within the plugin (like the black section in Operator) vs small windows with more controls being opened (sort of like using a VST in that a floating window opens for the plugin)?

Is there any M4L device that can analyze time signature of the beat loop?

I have to admit my music theory knowledge is kinda shallow and as a self-taught musician I am particulary bad when recognizing other time signatures than 4/4 and 3/4. However, I love to go crazy when doing beats and create different polyrhytms/polymetrics and sometimes I come with a crazy beat loop I love, but I don't know time signature it is, so I can use this information for other layers of my track.

Is there any M4L tool that could help me analyzing that?
Thx for tips, if there are any.
(and pls don't reply "use your ears", I would if I could :D)
