So I’ve lived here for 11 years, almost 12. Ever since I’ve moved here during the summer & after nightfall there’s this weird smell on the north side of town. I love having my windows & doors open as much as possible during the nice months that’s why I notice this. I’m near the sugar beet factory, cement factory & north west steakhouse. It’s not every single night, but kinda often. It doesn’t smell like a bonfire. It doesn’t smell like manure. Almost like burnt plastic but not at the same time. Whatever it is sets off a coughing fit though. Anyone know what it is or has anyone else notice it?

How do yall find out about local concerts and shows in the area? I'm a comedian on tour coming to headline The Sydney in Benson Monday 9/9 and I was wondering if there were any local blogs, Instagram pages, arts papers, or events calanders folks look to to find out about shows. Any info is appreciated!

Good evening! I’ll be moving up to Mason city from the Dallas area of Texas at the end of this week, is there any advice yall would give? I know from my girlfriend and her family that live up there that the winters can be harsh, is there anything I should get to prepare? What are y’all’s favorite things to do in MC and clear lake? Are there any must-try places? I adore northwestern and taco tico, are there any lesser known good places? I guess my main question is what should I know to have a good life, for me and the girlfriend I’m moving to be with, up here once I move?

I've been in healthcare management for over 10 yrs but now at 40 I want the second lap of life to look a lot different. I am looking to join law enforcement as an officer (as well as air force or air national guard reserve) and I'm looking to move to new environment. I stumbled upon Mason City and applied for your police department. I have no kids, no wife, no stress, no jail record. I'm not an introvert just an easy going quiet guy. Could Mason City be my home?

I grew up near MC in the 80s and 90s and haven't lived there since 2000... my husband and i were trying to remember if we ever ate Mexican food anywhere there. I only remember La Hacienda and fast food places. He thinks there was somewhere on the west side near China buffet. Does that ring any bells?

Did they start working on the shopko building ? Has anyone seen them? What do we know about the company going in? Is there an actual contract with the city?

Was wondering what a 2 bedroom home would cost to rent in Mason City. Are there areas that I should stay away from or areas that are better to rent in?

I know it probably just has some historical relevance to how many Lutherans we have/have had in town, but dang. St. Paul, Trinity, and Bethlehem are all within blocks of each other.
