It is now canon that there is a USS Manitoba as featured on one of the latest episodes of Star Trek Lower Decks!
FIL is coming here to work for a month or so in the new year. Any good ideas I can get as a gift for him to take with that will be useful?
I’m planning to move from Toronto to Winnipeg and want to make sure I’m prepared for any differences in laws, taxes, and general lifestyle changes between Ontario and Manitoba. Here’s what I’m hoping to learn more about:
• Taxes: I know Manitoba has its own provincial sales tax. How does the income tax compare? Any major differences in tax credits or deductions?
• Demographics: What’s the cultural vibe like in Winnipeg compared to Toronto? Any big differences in population diversity or community feel?
• Owning a Car and House: Any unique requirements or regulations for buying and insuring a car or house in Manitoba? Also, how do property prices and insurance rates compare?
• Transportation: How’s the public transit in Winnipeg? Is it more car-dependent than Toronto?
• Culture: Are there any unique cultural aspects, local customs, or events in Winnipeg that I should know about?
Any advice or info from locals would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for helping me make a smooth transition!
SEEKING PARTICIPANTS FOR CYBERCRIME RESEARCH
We are seeking research participants for a study regarding the impact of cybercrime experiences on psychological well-being. Cybercrime refers to any type of crime that occurs online or through the use of a computer, such as fraud, hacking, or harassment. We are seeking participants to complete an online survey (approximately 25 minutes). Questions will collect demographic information, details relating to your cybercrime experience, and information related to psychological well-being. This survey is completely anonymous and voluntary.
Your participation would be deeply appreciated and will contribute to a deeper understanding of the thoughts and experiences of Canadians who have encountered cybercrime.
Participant Requirements: Must be 18+, currently living in Canada, and have experienced any form of cybercrime.
To learn more about this study or to participate, please visit the following website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XDRVMDG

I went to mpi and they told me to just keep on checking and literally no dates are popping up that aren't 4+ weeks ahead.. solved: change your time from 7-5 into 9-5 and it will give you the dates 🤷♂️
We're looking to start building a house East of Winnipeg where there is no natural gas. I really wanted to have gas stove/oven and possibly fireplace. Even to have my BBQ plumbed in would be nice.
Curious about the costs for doing this, and how it compares with NG. Wondering for those that have done this - any issues or downsides to be aware of?
Do you buy a large tank or rent? Are there multiple suppliers in the south east? Any recommendations?
List of Manitoba Remembrance Day Events I put together. I have likely missed some but I included as many as I could find 🇨🇦
My wife and I are currently looking to build a home out in West St Paul. Is the area prone to spring flooding? Not a lot on Google from my searching, hoping someone here has some insight.
I’m from the US and due to recent events I’ve been considering Canada from college. I found out that my state (Minnesota) has reciprocity with Manitoba schools. I was wondering which ones would be the best. I was looking at university of Winnipeg or Manitoba. Any input is appreciated because I know nothing about Canadian schools. I want to major in psychology and my friend who would also apply wants to do something in healthcare if that matters :)
What are the differences between the two programs?
EIA you can work and earn $200 before extra deductions which are 70%?
MB Support you can work and earn up to $1000/month before deductions. Wouldn't most folks want to apply for that program instead? Also, what are the deductions once I earn $1000?
I'm curious to learn about both programs and can only find EIA info online.
Thank you.
US mom to a trans teenager here. My kiddo will graduate from high school this year and given the horror show that happened with our election, we are now looking to send them to college outside the US. Manitoba offers tuition reciprocity to people in my state so I was wondering: Are Manitoba in general and Winnipeg specifically safe for young trans people? It looks like the legal protections are good but what is it like socially?
So I'll have a couple of weeks holiday coming up end of year (new company has a use it or lose it policy for vacation so need to take it now, no banking for long periods in the summer). Wondering what are all the ideas to do in Manitoba?
Usually in winter I'm a stay at home kind of person, like to kayak, camp in the summer.
A friend with health issues recently became unemployed in Manitoba. I’m wondering when she will be able to use Pharmacare for her meds? TIA
What the title says. PlayNow is ok, but not great. Can we easily/legally use any others living here?
Thanks.
Hello everyone,
I am a member of a research team that studies the trajectories of people who are critical of at least one vaccine, or who are hesitant about getting vaccinated (or about getting their children vaccinated). The goal of this research is to analyze the experiences of these people in recent years (for example, during COVID-19), their impressions of the social representations of vaccination and vaccine hesitancy, and their impressions of health communications.
I hope that this research can shed light on issues such as the exclusion of vaccine critics, and to critically reflect on current communications.
We are looking for Canadians over the age of 18 to participate in an individual interview of approximately 2 hours, via Zoom.
Participants must…
…take a critical stance towards vaccination or certain vaccines…
OR
…have already deviated from the recommended vaccination schedule (delay or postponement of a vaccine)…
OR
…have already refused a vaccine for themselves or their child.
People interested in participating can write to me via (Reddit/Facebook) messaging or contact me by email, or contact Roxanne Martin, the research assistant (martin.roxanne.2@courrier.uqam.ca). People wishing to obtain more information on the research can contact Mélissa Roy, principal investigator (roy.melissa.3@uqam.ca) You can also share this invitation in your networks!
