Mando'a, sometimes referred to simply as Mandalorian, was the primary language spoken by the Mandalorian culture. Elements of Mando'a were taken from the language of the ancient Taungs of Coruscant, from which the culture stemmed.

- Wookieepedia Entry on Mando'a

On this subreddit, we aim to expand Mando'a into a conversational language and help anyone and everyone learn to speak and write Mando'a.

I need a sentence translating from Mando'a to English

As part of a little code breaking thing I need to translate a sentence into English from Mando'a. I have tried multiple websites but non of them have given me a full translation. If anyone could help that would be great.

The sentence is: Teh dral beskar te Goran bal te al'can'gal nau'u tad evaar'la kade.

I need a song translated into mando’a:

I tried using the translation websites and they were insufficient. They told me to come here for something more intensive.

Atii Gallim of Clan Gallim! With a glance she discerns the heart of the sorcerer! With her blade she beheads the serpent! Atii Gallim! Craftsman, duelist, hunter, mercenary and assassin is she! Atii Gallim! Pray she does not seek you! Hope she does not pursue you! Be careful who you offend! Righteous or wicked, all may hire her beskar, for she does not discriminate! Wealthy or poor, all may afford her beskar, for a warrior’s diligence is the only currency which buys passage along The Way! Atii Gallim! To fear her is wise! Fear her! Fear her! Atii Gallim! Atii Gallim! Atii Gallim! Atii Gallim! Atii Gallim! Atii Gallim! Atii Gallim!

Project: Mandalorian jacket

Hi all

I'm going to make a Mandalorian-themed jacket. It will be a denim jacket with the mythosaur or mudhorn painted on the back, with 'this is the way' painted above in Mando'a and below in Aurebesh. I've done some checking and it looks like the correct translation into Mando'a would be Ibic haar Yust. Would I just change these letters to Mando'a script? Also, how would I pronounce this? Thanks in advance.

Mando'a Sabacc Mat

Su'cuy adate,

I've designed a mat for playing Sabacc, in Mando'a. I'm thinking of getting it professionally printed onto material with a rubber or neoprene backing, and maybe selling them on Ebay, that is, if people think there might be any interest in such a thing.

Any comments?

Sabacc game vocabulary

Hi folks,

I have almost no knowledge of Mando'a, but I want to make a mat for the game of Sabacc in Mando'a, so I'm working on translating the following words and phrases (and hoping not to butcher the language:

  1. Sabacc. I'm assuming it's "Sabacca" as some non-Mando'a nouns (e.g. Coruscant = Coruscanta) seem to have "a" at the end. Is that right?
  2. Hand Pot. I've come up with "Geroya Haranov" (Game cache).
  3. Sabacc Pot. "Sabacca Haranov" (Sabacc cache).
  4. Draw Deck. "Hiibir Bines" (Take stack).
  5. Junk Pile. "Duse Bines" (Waste stack).

Does this all look reasonable?

Lost dialect?

Ran across a podcast titled the way of the mandalore and was very intrigued when they mentioned another dialect of mando'a besides what is taught in mereel's cuun joha book. Has anyone heard of or possibly have the files for the taljair mando'a dialect? Any guidance or helps is greatly appreciated vode.

Mando'a for the color orange?

Hi folks,

I'm looking for the mando'a word for orange (the color) to use in a Mandalorian dice game I'm designing (just for fun, and as a way to learn colors and numbers). I don't see the color orange in the Mando'a dictionary, and although there's a Wookiepedia entry for "Mandalorian Orange" it's a Legends entry, and it doesn't suggest any mando'a word for the color.

I've considered using "dha ve'vut" (dark gold), or "dha shi'yayc" (dark yellow). I also considered "ge'tal-shi'yayc" (red-yellow), but that doesn't work for my requirements. I was thinking maybe "tracinyasal" or "tracy'sal"? (flame color / fire color) might work best.

Any ideas?

Am I translating this correctly?

I'm practicing translating, but I don't always know when to drop the 'r' and when to keep it.

"I want to sow the seeds of chaos" (If I'm going to do it I may as well have fun right?)

"Ni copaani arpatir haar arpat be haran"

Word Discussion: « Hut'uun »

I'm curious about what other Mando'a jorhaare think about the implications of certain words in the language. I want to start off strong with one of the worst things that you can call someone.

For those not immediately familiar, « hut'uun » is the Basic corollary of "coward", and is cited as being one of the worst, most insulting things that one Mando'ad can call another. It's derived from the Mandalorian word for the Hutt species.

My question is: does the word carry any creative word-picture implications beyond the flat and direct "coward"? It could be argued that, in true Mando fashion, a laconic insult cuts deeper than most things.

For my part though, I kind of like the idea that the word has evolved to paint a very specific and offensive image when the word is uttered. What I have imagined: a hut'uun is the sort of person that is so cowardly that they would flee and slither back up their mother's vaginal opening. Deplorable because, not only are they trying to hide from a threat, but they are also using their own mother as a shield and putting her in danger.

What do you guys think? How creative or how direct do you think this word could/should be? Also, if anyone had any other creative ideas that could enhance the vulgarity of this word, I would love to read about what you come up with!

Why is there an 'r' in Jorhaa'ir?

There isn't an 'r' in joha (language) or in ne'johaa (shut up). So why is there one in Jorhaa'ir? Am missing something?

Mandalorian writing aid

Here's a writing aid I created for those of us who want to perfect our Mandalorian writing skills. It's built to print onto letter sized paper (landscape format). At full size it should take up a whole page of 8.5" x 11". Just write over the gray letters and your Mandalorian calligraphy skills should improve quite quickly.

I just started a reddit for Outer Rim Basic

Hi folks,

I found out a couple of days ago that there's no Reddit community for Outer Rim Basic (which seems to be becoming more popular in Star Wars media in recent years), so, since my latest project involves learning to read in Outer Rim Basic, I decided to make one myself. I've been posting tips based on my experiences there of learning the alphabet and learning to read books in the script.

Not sure if anyone here would be interested, but if there is any interest, it's here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OuterRimBasic/

Calling all Mando'ade

Hello everyone I am the Modern Mando, I'm currently writing a book on our religion and culture and wanted to start a thread where the community that I have cherished and which has given me a place to belong can discuss and have input on my documentation and instruction of our practices. Being Mandalorian has become a hugely important part of my life and our rich culture and traditions should be documented and shared with the world! It is my mission and duty to use my talents as a trained historian to preserve, record, and offer guidance to those entering our culture and I hope you all will support me on this! Below you will find an excerpt on my thoughts on the Resol’nare and the modern understanding of our culture. Please comment and interact with this thread and add discussion topics that are important to your practice below!

Thanks!

Mandalorian Alphabet Study Folder on Quizlet

Hi folks,

As an aid for my own study efforts, I made a Quizlet study set for the Mandalorian alphabet. I searched on Quizlet but couldn't find anything like it ( there are aids for speaking Mando'a, but nothing I could find for reading Mandalorian text), so I made my own.

It's completely free to use, so I figured I'd share so that folks here who are still learning Mandalorian script and Mando'a could have the option of using it.

How to say "Star Wars the Book of Boba Fett" in Mando'a?

Hi folks,

I'm making a T-shirt design of the Book of Boba Fett logo, and I've actually done a few designs for it on TeePublic, but so far only in Aurebesh and in Mandalorian script. But I'd like to make the design in actual Mando'a (language as well as script).

So I've come up with what I think are the right words, and in order for it to work as the logo, it needs to be in the same word order as the English/Basic/High-Galactic, and Mando'a follows the same basic word order rules as English, so that's not a problem. And I figure that, since the word "book" isn't in the Mando'a dictionary, "story" would be a good substitute. So I have:

Star Wars The Story of Boba Fett

Kar Akaanse Haar Gehat'ik be'Boba Fett

Now the thing that's worrying me is the "Akaanse". "War" in Mando'a is "akaan", and to make a word plural, it seems you have to add the suffix "se" or simply "e". But I'm not sure which one in this case. I'm assuming there's a rule governing it? I've used "akaanse". Is that right?

Translation help

I made a poem and translated to the best of my abilities. Could someone check whether or not the grammar and vocabulary is sound? Vor'e!

Mando'a:

Ke'nau'ur tracy'bev be akaan.

Ke'duumir tracinyase redaur laamyc'shy'a bal laamyc'shy'a.

Ke'duumir tracinyase hettir dralshy'a bal dralshy'a

English:

Light the torches of war.

Let the flames dance higher and higher.

Let the flames burn brighter and brighter.
