What is magnet fishing? Simply put, it's fishing with a magnet on the end of a rope instead of a hook. Instead of fish, we're looking for metallic objects; think of it as a sort of deep water metal detecting.
People drop all sorts of metallic things into the water, especially in heavily fished areas. From modern gadgets to historical item, you never know what you might come accross. These items are just sitting at the bottom, waiting for YOU to come recover them. What will you find? Share it with us here!

My son found a muzzle as well for a larger gun
First, has anyone ever magnet fished the ocean? I’m west coast and that’s the closest body of water to me.
Secondly, I’ve been searching for magnet kits on Amazon but became overwhelmed cause I just don’t know which one to buy. Some kits have some good rebuy but then someone else says the magnet is too weak and doesn’t work. Any recommendations?
Thank you for your time!
I fish with a 360 magnet w/grappling hook attached to the I bolt. This baby was snagged by one of the hooks. I guess I should play the lottery today 😂
*I wear nitrile gloves under my other gloves to keep my hands dry/clean
Or mega cube or online magnets 1400kg 180mm clamp magnet beast extreme any one used any of these
I added a magnet strip from a magsafe powerbank to this old magnet of mine as a joke, but then I got curious. Would it actually work better this way? It'd be far from as good as a proper 360 magnet, but would this at least enhance the odds of finding things.
Feel free to let me know your opinions and takes on this! I'm bored, though rather curious
Hello, Can anyone recommend the best setup for an 8yo? (Preferably w link to Amazon or other seller.)
My son is fascinated with magnetfishing and I'd like to get him a better setup, we've mostly just used home rigs up til now.
Thanks!
Hi what is the strongest and or most powerful 360 degree magnet you've used currently got a 1600kg from online magnet thinking of supplementing it with a 1800 or 1700 a lot of money but hopefully can get the heavy stuff out also eyeing up the cube magnet but there smaller but claim to have higher ratings 6000lbs I think anyone got any experiences also thanks really wanting a pro super strong magnet cheers
Well the 100th gun i have found magnet fishing is certainly an underwhelming one. I'll keep going and hope the 150th is a little more interesting....it would have been nice to find the barrel and slide too but maybe another day. Colt Vest Pocket .25acp
Hello. I have never fished before but am interested. What do you wizards recommend buying. I am slightly on a budget.
I went magnet fishing a very popular walking bridge for the first time in 3 years when we ended up pulling out a Taurus .38 special revolver, which we called GRPD to collect the firearm. Never a dull moment with GRPD, one of the coolest cops we've interacted with. We found out on the spot that the gun was reported missing/stolen back in 2004, we eventually were able to get in contact with the original owner (at his request to PD, they called us, we gave the ok to give him our contact info) he said it was stolen out of his truck. He hasn't gotten the pistol back yet. Not sure when he will get it back from county.
Thankfully this one was not used in a homicide, I have found 3 guns that were confirmed to be linked to homicides...
I recommend handing in more modern produced firearms (or recently dumped), however I usually bring it over to the station opposed to calling non- emergency.
Wheels still work too. Mostly made out of aluminum. Just needs a little clean up!
Photos are below. Some from right after I got home and another few after I knocked some of the big chunks of crud off it. I assume the handle was wood. It's all gone.
What's left looks to be the metal part of an old pistol. I'm seeing a little bit of what seems to be brass peeking out from above the trigger guard, in the rear of the gun. I don't know the name of this kind of gun, but the whole barrel seems to rotate? Because it has 4 barrels. They look to be a little bigger than .22 caliber.
I was magnet fishing at a very popular walking bridge when I found an iPhone! I had no hopes of that thing ever turning on again, however my dad made a miracle happen and was able to dry it out and after charging it, it sprung to life. We called some of the phone numbers that popped up on the notifications, finally one of the numbers picked up, it was the husband of the person who lost the phone, we were able to pick out a meeting place to return the phone!
This is the first phone I ever found while magnet fishing that I was able to return to the owner! I recently found a Samsung A14 and I was able to find the owner, hoping to return that tomorrow, but it is gonna be over an hour drive to return that! It's just awesome when you are able to return someone's lost belongings, it sucks losing your phone and needed to buy a new one, getting new SIM, ect.
I'll link the full video (on YouTube) down in the comments for anyone who is interested!
Pulled up cash box, no cash, and three nice knives in the first ten minutes on a new to us bridge. Then nothing else for an hour+. Lots of fallen down trees that kept snagging the magnets.
I lost a magnet under a bridge today for the first time. The rope tangled and instead of extending fully it stopped short causing my 360 magnet to swing under and get caught under a metal bridge. How do you guys set up your rope so this doesn’t happen? Or do I just have to work through the rope after every toss? I can just adjust it and leave it coiled vertically after every toss but it seems like a lot of work. I normally don’t cast over bridges just under but felt confident today. Also it’s probably impossible but if anyone is near Cherry Hill, NJ there’s a cash reward if you can get my magnet back, DM me.
I was out magnet fishing with my buddy at a spot I never hit before, we found 3 guns and a mortar at this spot in a 2 day span, this encounter happened on the first day at this spot, we had a guy approach us, he asked what we were doing, which I told him "we are cleaning up the river with magnets". He then asked if we found any guns in the area, which I told him "no", never tell a stranger you found a gun in the river, never know if they may have been the one who threw it in or knew who did, anyways after that, he asked if we had any edibles we could share, which I told him "no, sorry man, I don't do that stuff"
In response to my answer, he started getting verbally aggressive, gave me a light shove in which I started recording, about 30 seconds after he shoved me, he started shouting shit about "the government" and bikers and all this incoherent shit. This was probably a 15 minute interaction, which I just kinda agreed with whatever he said so he doesn't get physical. I was especially worried he might see the 2 guns in my bucket, so I kept moving the bucket away from the guy. My buddy found a Ruger .22 and I found a Glock 23 shortly after my buddy found the Ruger, the Glock was all seized up, but was probably in the water for less than a year. After about 15 minutes of talking with him, he finally decided to leave us alone, but watched us from the other end of the bridge for probably 20 minutes while he was talking to someone on the phone, so we decided to leave.
When you are out magnet fishing and have this type of encounter with a stranger, always be observative and do not add on to the fire, don't start up a fight when you don't know what they may have on them, especially if they aren't in the right state of mind.
Stay safe out there fam ✌️
Also, the crap on the bridge was sweapt up for those who are wondering, there was a pretty big mess when we arrived to this spot, we cleaned it up and filled a 5 gallon bucket of crap left on the bridge :(
Just like the title says I am a newbie to this dope hobby and I live near Columbus Ohio!
Any tips or tricks for someone new to this but not at all new to nature?
Also best places in Columbus / best bodies of water to look for.
Thanks in advance gang!
Found a safe door and the tools that were probably used to open it. I believe the safe is down there too and will try to mess with that tomorrow. I will let the local police know about it tomorrow and hand over anything they think would be useful. Doubt they could get much out of the stuff since it’s all been submerged for a while. We just fished in the same spot a month ago and didn’t get anything.
Hi all. I was visiting some relatives this weekend and did some magnet fishing in a local lake. Pike Lake, I believe it was called. In Warsaw, Indiana. My magnet grabbed something, but was not strong enough to pull it out of the muck. I went over it several times and grabbed what looks like parts of a car, maybe? And definitely parts of a license plate.
Anyway, if anyone is nearby Warsaw, Indiana, and wants to give it a shot, I'll provide the location in the description below. See images for more detail.
I was standing about here: 41.244779, -85.842869

I threw my line out about 15 feet, due west. It stuck to something. Go get it!

Edit - Update (Oct 26). Police called me this morning. They sent in a dive team and recovered a lot of metal garbage, but no big car or anything. They said it's likely that it was a dumping/fill spot for people ~60 years ago (my paraphrase of the conversation.) So, no Hoffa. No bodies. But, a nice spot for collecting chunks of stuff if someone wants to help clean out the lake!
Keep searching, ya'll!
Any reviews looks really good on paper is it exaggerated or this really a game changer
