Magic Eye images, more generically known as stereograms, became a wild hit in the 1990's. A stereogram might be described as an image within an image, where the second image requires the eyes to focus behind the image as opposed to on it.
While technique differs, many seem to agree that some combination of crossing your eyes (not entirely though, remember you're trying to look past the image, not at a point between the image and you), letting your eyes go unfocused, and getting your nose all up in the image's business assists in determining what the hidden image is. Once you do find the hidden image, don't get too excited and try to focus on it, or you'll likely lose it and have to start over!

I’m aware this sounds like quite possibly the lamest showing off ever, but does anyone else find it very easy to see magic eye images? I don’t have to think hard about it, I can just do it immediately
I first was given a book of them when I was about 6, and once I could do it, I’ve never struggled to do any again. Ive ended up doubling my eyes (in the same way you see the images) all the times when im bored - if i see repeating patterns in anything i double my vision and overlay the pattern. It means im subconsciously looking for patterns all the time!
I have tried everything I've seen online but nothing works. I can do Cross Eye perfectly, but even like that magic eyes don't even show up inside out. I can do the hot dog/ 3rd finger trick and that works, i know what is meant by the feeling of looking "through your phone" and i can do it at the beginning but after like 5cm distance my eyes "autofocus". It's still blurry then but a different kind of blurry. Also it does look different from when i cross my eyes so i'm sure i know the technique but it still doesn't work for me. As said, i think the main part is that my eyes automatically focus on the screen, even though it's still blurry then and i just can't keep the focus/can't focus as far as needed iykwim haha I am near sighted but i don't think that plays a role. I know I'm not missing much to be able to do it but i've never seen it and i really want to but my eyes are just not cooperating. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what i could do to apply that same focus and keep it?
Edit: Also what i found is when i squint my eyes it helps keep it a bit longer but with my glasses on it doesn't work at all if that makes sense soooo
Is there a way to view magic eye pictures? Or to emulate them? They never worked for me :<
Edit: I asked because I read astigmatism can get in the way, but it turns out I can do parallel view to some degree of success? Will update you later
UPDATE HOLY SHIT I THINK I KNOW WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
THE KEY TO PARALLEL VIEW IS A TILED BACKGROUND BEHIND MY DEVICE
Title says it all. Whenever I relax my focus, put the image closer and then farther to my eyes, cross and slowly center my eyes, any method with results, the image is always “wrong” where the closer part is further away. Like the sailboat (or schooner, if you will) is deeply set into the background, or the orb will be a divot, or the tiger paw is behind the tiger face.
Is it me? Am I broken? Or is my method (or methods) incorrect?
You can get the book "STUDIOGRAMS - Stereograms for Illusion Fans" on Amazon here or check it out FREE with Kindle Unlimited.

I’m interested to know if AI can create a stereogram, but I’m not very tech savvy and am horrible with text prompts.
Hoping someone else can have a go at it and maybe post the results.
Cheers
I published this book of stereograms I made. It's completely free to check out if you have Kindle Unlimited, or it's also available for sale on Amazon as Kindle ebook, Paperback, or Hardcover. If you order or take a look on Kindle, let me know what you think please! Thanks!!
I used to be obsessed with this thing back when I was a little kid, probably 6 or 7.
Felt like my own little super power.
Some of the magic eyes make me think of VR lenses, now I’m wondering if it’s even possible to refocus your eyes through the headset!!
I love these images. How do I go about creating something that works like this??
Has anyone watched X-MEN ‘97 Season 1, Episode 1? I was watching tonight and noticed two very brief “static” screens during a video call between two characters in the show. I paused it on the first one and it definitely looked like a stereogram, but I couldn’t quite figure out what it was. Have any of you figured out what it might be? To me it looked like it was several curved shapes - kind of like waves - that were 5 or 6 levels deep.
It's not great, but if you're quick seeing stereograms, it's a funny clip (I think)..
