  • Magic Eye images, more generically known as stereograms, became a wild hit in the 1990's. A stereogram might be described as an image within an image, where the second image requires the eyes to focus behind the image as opposed to on it.

While technique differs, many seem to agree that some combination of crossing your eyes (not entirely though, remember you're trying to look past the image, not at a point between the image and you), letting your eyes go unfocused, and getting your nose all up in the image's business assists in determining what the hidden image is. Once you do find the hidden image, don't get too excited and try to focus on it, or you'll likely lose it and have to start over!

I'd love to make a magic eye for my partner for our anniversary; made with a photo of us. I'm just wondering if anyone coukd recommend the best program or website to offer such service? I assume they cost money so I'd like something that's not a scam.

Or... Is there a way to make it myself?

How do I do it consistently ?

I was watching Bad Apple magic eye version ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLuGJGyCS90 ) and after about 20 min of staring at it managed to do it about 3 or 4 times. But now I'm trying to do it again and I just can't do. I'm not doing anything different from what I was doing before but I can't seem to see it anymore.

Edit: As soon as I posted this I managed to do it again somehow

Edit2: Got it again, I think I just need to be a certain distance away from it and watch under a specific angle and then it works more consistently.

Edit3: I can basically do it at will now.

    Does an autorefractor use stereopsis?

I'm looking for common examples of the stereoscopic effect but I can't find a lot of information on autorefractors (the hot air balloon eye test). Does anyone know if it actually uses stereopsis?

I can't see stereograms no matter how I try.

I've tried all the techniques I found but none work. Even the first step is hard for me, to look over the image without any help.

I have slight hypermetropia, so when I "relax" my eye as told, well all my vision is blurry. When I try to look at something far away just next to (in my vision) the stereogram, I just see blurred mess. Not even 3d blurred things, nothing.

Also, I've seen you have to focus your eye closer to how far you are looking at...which is impossible for me. I'm pretty sure my hypermetropia doesn't help there.

I know my right rye is dominant, but I don't think I have a lazy left eye.

If anyone could help it would be awesome, cause it drove me crazy when I was a kid. (With precise methods and the easiest stereograms)

No I just not have depth perception??

I’ve tried literally everything. I cannot see whatever the hell you guys are seeing. It’s making me so mad. Like I must just have something wrong with one of my eyes because this is impossible.
