What should I pay for a used Lulzbot Mini 2 or Ender 3 Pro?

I need to figure this out in the next couple of hours, otherwise I will miss out. I need to make an informed decision on whether to buy a printer or wait for another opportunity.

There is a lulzbot mini 2, used with box, and a brand new ender 3 pro in box available at a moving sale in the area where I'm visiting. Owner is open to offers and may let it go cheaply.

The owner is clearly a maker with lots of fun tech gear and kits and tools. I don't have further info. The lulzbot may be complete or may be missing some stuff. There's also a few accessories available seperate from the printers but bundled as one lot: Lulzbot single extruder tool head v2.1, Lulzbot mini heat bed kit (which I think are for the mini 1?), and a crate of 1kg HIPS and PLA filament spools as well. Do I need these parts if I buy the mini 2? Should I grab the filaments while I can even though I probably wont use even a third of it in the next few years?

This will be my first printer. I've 3d printed just a few things before on a monoprice and some other random printer years ago but nothing since. I am competent with electronics and mechanics and modelling, but really need to learn everything about 3d printers from scratch again basically. I will make prototypes, tools, handy gadgets that need to be strong, but nothing critical or production level. Need an informed decision quickly and appreciate the help. Thanks.

Any Lulzbot mini 3 reviews?

Has anyone here used the newest Lulzbot mini 3 printer? If so, what is your opinion? I haven't been able to find any user reviews which is unsettling. I have the first gen mini and a lot of filament.

I already own a fairly new Prusa mk4 so a new mini 3 probably isn't worth it but I'm still open to getting one.

Taz6

I’m having an issue with my Taz6 where when I auto home it’s fine and finds home no problem but when I start a print it misses the home button and pushes the build plate down until I turn it off. I’m new to this so I’m not sure exactly where to start so I can fix the issue.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Lulzbot TAZ Pro

Hey guys, I have a business local here that has 2 Lulzbot TAZ Pro’s for 550 each, double extruders. Bed heats, they seem to be in working order. Used by a research university with somewhere around 300 hours on them, factory reset now. I also have access to a local print shop that sells a ton of 2.85mm PLA and PETG at 10$ per 1kg. Discounts on more if bought by the pallet. I currently have an ankermake m5c and looking to start expanding and starting a print farm.

The question is: would these lulzbots be a good investment for the price point and availability? Or am I better off moving on and going a different route?

AKA: is this a good investment in 2024?

Thanks team!

Do we HAVE to auto level EVERY print??

I'm using my Taz 6 again after years. The probing is super inconsistent and I'm just spending WAY too much time trying to launch. Once I get through it, no issues at all.

Here's my question. After a successful probe routine and print, can we maybe store and use the previous probe numbers?

I have custom gcode that omits G28 auto level but the nozzle is a bit too close to the bed. Do the previous G28 numbers get wiped every time?

Can we store or resend? Thanks for any help or leads on this!

Lulzbot mini

I recently got a lulzbot mini and I was wondering if there's any way to connect a phone (android) to it and 3d print files that way instead of a laptop/pc

Using the motor without a 3d printer

I wanted to build a prototype of some machine with 2 motors (2d 4 directions, just to follow some shapes) and wondered how hard it would be to manage that without the use of the motherboard.

Klipper conversion for Mini 1?

I received two Mini 1's from my school and they're not in the best shape. One of them is older and I want to convert it to Klipper (or modern Marlin).

The school has recently put a new SE extruder on it but that's the only modern part, this thing's ancient.

I plan on replacing the control board and getting a fresh install on it. Is this possible? Any help is appreciated...

MINI 1 wont autolevel

hi after some printings my Lulzbot mini 1 wont autolevel and just default to halted and disconnecting from Cura LE i tried to print skipping the autolevel and the printer tries to print as usual but the PLA wont stick to the bed, im triying printing with diferent settings to see exactly where the problem may be but since i´m fairly new to 3D printing my alternatives are kinda limited.

any advices or similar experiences?

Big Occasional Blobs

https://preview.redd.it/qr7gkiba0k7d1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=203f32b991c0956872cacc6b2dc2e78eac0efc35

I have a taz 5. I bought it used and since then I have had these big blobs occasionally. I understand the normal z-seam issues, but this is worse.

Occasionally, after retraction, there is a loud click coming from the print head, and it makes a big blob. As you can see in the photo, these blobs will show up in the same spot if I repeat the print. I am using the default retractions settings in the lulzbot edition cura. I woudn't know where to start trying to change these settings.

I am using 1.75 mm filament in the stock 3mm print head.

  • It is a Taz 5 (no modifications as far as I know).
  • Stock tool head with 0.5 mm nozzle.
  • Happens with every filament I've gotten (PLA, PLA+, ABS)
  • Cura Lulzbot edition 4.13.3 on Windows 10
  • Firmware is marlin 1.1.9.34
  • Printing from SD
  • Retraction distance 1.75 mm
  • Retraction speed 10 mm/s

Mini 1 troubleshooting

I have an original Mini 1 that has been mothballed for probably 6 years. I'm trying to get it running to give to someone. I got the newest Cura LE and updated the firmware. I can connect to the printer, move the toolhead and bed, and feed filament through the extruder. Everything heats up properly. When trying to do a print, it makes it partway through the sequence (touches front and read left level points and does two nozzle wipes), then stops with a generic "this print cannot be completed" error.

Any ideas?

Was given a TAZ 5 but have no clue how to set it up.

Been using a Bambi P1S for a while and loving the utter simplicity of it. I was given a TAZ 5 and I’m a bit lost on how to use it.

I was able to get it to extrude a little bit it’s making a series of noises I’m not sure how to diagnose. I feel like I should start from ground zero with doing a calibration and bed leveling. Could anyone guide me on how to do this? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the variety of documentation I find.

Twin Nebula Dual Extruder on Lulzbot TAZ 6?

Hello, any idea if I could get my trusty TAZ 6 to run the new, next-gen Twin Nebula dual extruder? I understand people were able to get the old dual extruder (probably the TAZ Dual Extruder V3.1 and similar) on the TAZ 6; since the Twin Nebula is targeted at the PRO series (and says in the description that it is not compatible with non-PRO newer Lulzbots--TAZ 6 is too old to be mentioned I guess), that might be a problem.

I do have the TAZ 5/6 Universal Tool Head Adapter and have been running the Meteor just fine.

How to Adjust the z offset on Taz Pro

Hi, I'm currently setting up my taz pro dual extruder and am having a difficult time tuning the z offset properly. I understand that the best way to tune the offset is to watch a print in real time and then separately adjust the left and right extruders. I've already done this and gotten the rings on the vernier print to an acceptable thickness on one side but not on the other. Does anyone know if this is an issue with the bed being uneven or the z offset?

For reference, I am printing directly from the printer using the vernier print on the usb drive and am running Marlin 2.1.3.0.1.7. And I'm using PolyLite PLA from PolyMaker.

Underextruding Taz 5

My Taz 5 has started underextruding. I've replaced the nozzle, checked the hobbed bolt and idler pulley (i have the beefy extruder idler and latch.) Before this began, I had noticed it was harder to insert filament than normal although that seems ok now. This is what my cold pulls look like, does this indicate the issue?

Better slicer for the lulzbot TAZ 6 dual extruder 2

I have been fighting with Cura for working with my TAZ and dissolvable supports. (the "set a block for supports" instead of just deleting the ones you want gone and adding ones you do is ridiculous.) Lychee supports TAZ, but not dual extruder. Has anyone had ANY success with a slicer that will support the dual head Taz and have decent control over supports?

First solid layer on top of infill peeling up - Taz 6

I recently booted up my old Taz 6 after 4 years and am in the process of getting it back to printing reliably, but am having issues with the first solid layer being put down on top of infill. That layer does not appear to stick and as a result peels up causing the print nozzle to crash into it on subsequent layers. I can minimize the issue by printing at 40% of default Cura recommended speed, but it feels like I shouldn't have to do that for (Polymaker Polylite) PLA.

Any ideas on what settings I should tweak to get this to go away? The infill is 15% Gyroid and I already have print head cooling fans on full blast.

Questions for taz 5

About to get a taz 5 for an amazing deal and wondering if taz 6 parts like the extruder are compatible with the taz 5. Also wondering if I can update the firmware of taz 5 to somthing that will work with new softwares or if I want to keep it how it is and use the older slicer that recommended on the website for taz 5.

Any help much appreciated, thank you!
