Anyone know of any rogue ap detector tools I can use on lubuntu with commands on how to get things up and running
Hey folks! I am using DragonOS which is based on Lubuntu. I have issues changing the background for the login screen. I found the png file which is currently used, but i cant replace it neither edit it. Seems i dont have permissions to change this file? I am new to Lubuntu and Linux in general, can someone help me out and give me a clue how to proceed? Thanks in advance and have a lovely Friday evening!

Hi Guys,
i installed Lubuntu on my old Desktop Machine, in order to still use it -> recently discovered Linux and i really enjoy it.
So ive got myself an Wifi Stick from Aliexpress which i want to use. Can anyone explain how to make it run on Linux? It has on the Stick itself a Windows Driver on it which is useless in my case.
Ive read that you can identify which Chip is inside that Stick and from there get a Driver. Since im a beginner i would need some help with that. Could anyone assist?
Thanks
I would really appreciate it if there is any way to make Lubuntu look better or rice it up, even though I like how it looks by default. It uses openbox as default wm , and it looks very basic out of the box , but if we see archcraft that also uses openbox as one of its default wm, it looks really beautiful. And I've heard people say that openbox is very customisable, but please tell me how do I customize it? Thank you.
Hey folks, I have question, just as above.. I know it's pointless for many, but here me out. I have old, old notebook (at least due to standards of current computer society), it's just N145p and it does it's job perfectly, but.. Since some time I experience many, many issues due to lack of hardware support.. Wait I drifted away 😂 It's general purpose is Windows XP for older games and diagnostic software (since newer Windows don't support ELM and other "eastern chips" and it's drivers, at least in same standards as Xp/7), but due to lovely factor of it's 10 inch size, damn, It's perfect on go and in car.. Still, I started from Bodhi, but there was issues with hibernation (every close of lid killed whole OS), then went for Xubuntu, but it thrown so many errors, and Grub2 that came with it was bringing issues (like it never showed up or messed up starting of OSes itself, or just ignored whole dual boot).. I tried EOS, didn't work, few went through also, like peppermint (seems like it's bootloader don't support dual boot and can't install) and went till Lubuntu.. Seems like it'll be good one, better than Xubuntu due to not using same GUI (afaik, but might be wrong), but.. I feel like I want to avoid dualboot.. No purpose.. And at this point I use Linux only as data collecting tool and.. ehh, sometimes super light browsing, barely ever I do anything related to office these days.. And booting part would be taken over by boot queue on BIOS..
So how do you guys think, would it work as I think, just by installing it on external HDD?
I have tearing problems, the touchpad doesn't work anymore, it's impossible for me to restart, and when I close the laptop, something similar to a terminal appears where some things are running and sometimes it freezes, requiring me to hold down the button for 10 seconds to close the laptop. Help? :(
After opening the laptop, a screen comes with different options. I choose the lubuntu with recovery mode and it shows this. What to do?
I have to attend a class tomorrow so I need help on this
Thank you
Every time I restart the PC the only keyboard layout available is English. And I need to go to Keyboard Layout and re add the layout.
Hi, I am new to lubuntu, how do I make the background application not become transparent when I run a second application? And can I remove this blue line surrounding the application?
My dell latitude e6400 has lubuntu installed with kde plasma 11 and i have used almost every command, updated every utility, and installed all my network drivers, but apparently not, I can only use my bluetooth hotspot and ethernet to have internet connection, someone help me!
I have some Java programs packaged in .jar
format. To run these programs, I normally download the latest Temurin Java JRE OpenJDK11U-jre_x64_linux_hotspot_11.0.25_9.tar.gz
from its official GitHub repository.
Then, I extract it to /usr/lib/jvm
and create a desktop file. After this process, I can select the Java Runtime to run those .jar
files. These steps have been tested on Lubuntu 22.04, 22.10, 23.04, 23.10, and 24.04.
Today, I tried using 24.10 and found that my desktop file does not work. I tried searching for the error message but had no luck. So, I am posting here to seek help.
The following desktop file works in 22.04 and 24.04, but it does not work in 24.10.

I just set up Lubuntu on an old pc I want to use as a nas. I know that on windows you can network share a drive but I was wondering if I can do the same on lubuntu. Dont want to switch OS to a NAS only one since this computer has given me nothing but trouble and I dont want to do another OS switch.
I just installed Lubuntu to try out as a lightweight distro for my laptop but holy shit are the audio drivers bad. When connecting to my headphones all audio sounds like it passed through a sandstorm to get to my headphones. I tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them but it's still just as bad.
Are there any better audio drivers options?
I'm running Lubuntu on a HP Chromebook 11 G8 EE.
I'm loving the experience and simplicity. Lubuntu has made this little chrombook a great daily carry device.
One thing I'm working around is not having a Super key on the device. By default, the Chromebook's Search key is mapped to Meta. I've set-up the Meta key to do many things in the Global Shortcuts Manager.
The one thing I'm stuggling with is figureing out how to use the window 'snapping' functionality of Openbox without a Superkey on the device.
Is there a way to remap the Superkey functionality to another key within Lubuntu?
OR
Is there a way to adjust the OPenbox Keybindings so I can map Meta+> and Meta+< to its functions?
The trackpack on this Chromebook is garbage, and being able to 'half' windows is much more efficicent when I can do it via the keyboard.
Lubuntu 24.10
My laptop has a GT 740M
I see nothing in the additional drivers tab.
`sudo ubuntu-drivers` command takes forever with no response.
I dont have ethernet available so what can i do?
In Lubuntu, the start menu shortcut defaults to the Super key. However, I use Super + other keys for Openbox shortcuts, and having it configured in both Openbox and the Lubuntu Global Action Manager causes conflicts.
TL;DR: I'd like to set the start menu shortcut in Openbox rather than in the Lubuntu Global Action Manager.

Lubuntu uses the LXQt DE with Openbox as the default window manager. Contrary to popular belief, Openbox DOES support window-snapping, but this feature is disabled when you first install the OS. The correct way to enable it is to edit the /home/(username)/.config/openbox/rc.xml file. This file does not exist by default when you first install Lubuntu, but it is generated automatically by simply opening up the Openbox Settings on the LXQt Configuration Center.
If you open up rc.xml and add the following code below to the keyboard section, that would enable true window snapping on Lubuntu.
<!-- Snap window to left half -->
<keybind key="W-Left">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>0</x>
<y>0</y>
<width>50%</width>
<height>100%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
<!-- Snap window to right half -->
<keybind key="W-Right">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>50%</x>
<y>0</y>
<width>50%</width>
<height>100%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
<!-- Snap window to top half -->
<keybind key="W-Up">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>0</x>
<y>0</y>
<width>100%</width>
<height>50%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
<!-- Snap window to bottom half -->
<keybind key="W-Down">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>0</x>
<y>50%</y>
<width>100%</width>
<height>50%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
After editing and saving the file with the code above, you have to run openbox --reconfigure
to apply the changes - except that this doesn't work. This code tells Lubuntu to enable window snapping with the shortcut Windows key + arrow keys, but apparently, there is a bug on the OS that renders the Windows key useless for certain keyboard shortcut key bindings, and this is one of them. If you were to modify the code above with a different shortcut binding, it would work (note that the Windows key may not be the only one that's bugged here). The code below has CTRL + SHIFT + ARROW KEYS set as the keyboard shortcut for snapping windows, and it just works. But we all know that's a miserable gloss-over, no one snaps windows without the Windows key
<!-- Snap window to left half -->
<keybind key="C-S-Left">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>0</x>
<y>0</y>
<width>50%</width>
<height>100%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
<!-- Snap window to right half -->
<keybind key="C-S-Right">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>50%</x>
<y>0</y>
<width>50%</width>
<height>100%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
<!-- Snap window to top half -->
<keybind key="C-S-Up">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>0</x>
<y>0</y>
<width>100%</width>
<height>50%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
<!-- Snap window to bottom half -->
<keybind key="C-S-Down">
<action name="UnmaximizeFull"/>
<action name="MoveResizeTo">
<x>0</x>
<y>50%</y>
<width>100%</width>
<height>50%</height>
</action>
</keybind>
The real solution is to either install Kwin (thus defeating the purpose of installing Lubuntu in the first place), or read and follow the instructions on the TL;DR. That isn't true window snapping, however, all that wmctrl is doing is positioning your window in a set coordinate within the pixels of your screen that you specified in the line of code that went into your new shortcut, rather than automatically adjusting the window to fit the corner of the screen you're sending it to, that's why you must reconfigure the coordinates for monitors with different resolutions, but that's the only working way I've found of using the damn Windows key with the shortcut. Snapping with the mouse apparently isn't built in. Then you'd really need Kwin...
Lubuntu 24.10
I don't kow what xinput setting to disable for this. I don't want to disable tap to click.
Just want to disable right clicks and middle mouse clicks using two finger taps.
Please help!
Update: I fixed it by switching from libinput to synaptic and editing the config file to adjust things.
having multiple desktops is just annoying to me. Sometimes when I scroll in the wrong spot, I switch desktops without even realizing it until later. Is there a way to just disable the multiple desktops feature altogether?
I left my laptop charging longer than it should have when it was turned off, and a few days after I opened it (I haven't needed to open it since then), specifically today, I see that the battery remains at 99%. I'm on Lubuntu 24.04.1. Help pls? :((
Hey everyone As the title says what to do? The brightness buttons worked fine when I had windows 10 installed
Thank you
Been trying for 3 consecutive weeks. Studying and researching daily. YouTube videos, obscure blogs, ChatGPT, nothing works. Seen a lot of people saying they made it, none bothered to explain how. Everything seems to point out to editing the lxqt-rc.xml file, located in /home/(username)/.config/openbox/lxqt-rc.xml, however, the lxqt-rc.xml file does not exist in my system, and it seemingly won't be created automatically no matter what - creating one doesn't work either since I don't have its contents (also nowhere to be found on the internet). What do I do now?
i cant make firefox be default browser are someone can help me ?
