Okay I know loaches will be loachin’…..but this seems excessive? I have 5 Kuhli loaches in this tank. Had them at least 8 months at this point with no issues. They are a bit shy, but not nearly as shy as I hear other peoples are. They have “loach time” zoomies every evening when I change their light from “on” (for the plants) to “party light time” (either a dim orange or a dim blue/green). Light is totally off at least 12-18hrs a day. Four days ago I did a big water change (30-40%), rearranged some decor, and added a few plants. Everyone seems very happy with their new hides and plants, and they entire group has been a little extra “zoomy” which I attributed to them being a little freaked by their new environment, but this kid is absolutely off the rails and has been doing this off and on for hours at this point today. He (?) will stop periodically to rest and I have seen him eat and snuggle his other loach buds, but then it’s right back to being a high speed ouroboros impersonator. Water parameters look good, test with API kit: ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 0-5ppm. Water hovers around 78-80 degrees. Should I do anything about this or just wait for him to settle or perish?
bought these two as a pair, i noticed this particular one was not too active in the tank when the shop assistant netted him out and bagged him up but just assumed that he had a more relaxed temperament. taking a closer look at him now i’ve noticed he looks a lot more pre-mature than the other, he’s not moved much at all, compared to the other loach which has been zooming around the tank. he seems pretty vacant overall :( in addition his breathing is very fast compared to the other one as you may notice in the video. i’ve only just bought this lil guy and would feel terrible if something happened to him within my care :( does anyone have any advice?
Got this two, are they both females?
Hey all, recently got a 15-gallon long tank that I plan to set up for a mixed tank of loaches, a few plecos (since snails are a no-go lol), and some shrimp. I haven’t picked a type of shrimp yet, and I’m toying with the idea of bristlenose plecos (I have to check the tank is big enough for a trio). I already have 3 banded khuli loaches in one of my female betta’s tanks and I love the goofy little guys, but I don’t think I want to do khuli only, so does anyone have any suggestions on other goofy ones? I plan to have about 80% of the water covered in plants so please be aware there won’t be much in the way of surface for air-needing ones (if there are any. I plan to use many air stones to keep the water oxygenated) :]
I don’t know what’s happening here.
Hi all. Got my very first Kuhli loaches last night and I was really excited. After acclimating, everyone sorta dispersed and went to hide and I didn’t see much of them. This morning I found one dead, unfortunately, and now this other one is struggling too. He was swimming up and then sort of “falling” back down, and now he’s only doing this, and laying on his back/side on the bottom of the tank :(
Feeling like I’m failing these little guys right now. The other three are doing fine as far as I can tell (there were 5 total).

Can i feed my hillstream loach with mealworms for extra protein
Hi, I am slowly building my first aquarium and am wondering what substrate would be the best for loaches. I want to have heavily planted aquarium with khuli and horse-face loaches + some corydoras and ottos. I am considering small grain gravel and sand. Which one will be better for them to dig in? Also I was considering building a cave system to provide additional hiding spots for loaches, but I am not sure if they would like it, wouldn't they prefer just thick layer of substarte to dig by themselves? I was thinking of something similar but with 3 smaller caves connected and of course plants on top (my tank is 80 gal) Photo is from r/aquascape
So I had to get to some Yoyo loaches to combat a Ramshorn plague of about 1000snails in my 10gallon and my 30 gallon. I got the loaches at a small size and now all 5 are in the 30 gallon tank and the snail problem has been resolved. I know the tank is not the ideal size but I have made accommodations. I have multiple clear Runways for them to swim the length of the tank along the bottom. I also built a Slate stone "apartment" complex with all kinds of caves for them to slip in and out of. I don't have the space for a bigger tank right now, but when I do have space I will upgrade. I guess what I am asking is; am I doing enough to make sure my loaches are comfortable, despite the smaller tank size than recommended?
Alternatively, I do have big 60 gallon plastic storage tubs. Would these be a better temp home until I can get the space for a bigger tank?
Also my Three female loaches are getting full of eggs chubby, so I feel like if they are possibly getting ready to spawn that they are doing okay.
To loach or not to loach that is the question.
This is the Chosen Spot for the loaches. There’s actually 2 more facing the other way behind them
Hello, I have an aquarium of 50g (see pic) and I'm wondering how many Hillstream Loaches I can put in there.
I'm planning on putting some Pygmy Corydoras inside and I have already 10ish Cherry shrimp in. On some sites I find one is enough and some say I should put 10, and now I have no idea anymore...
It flew away..
