When the show, the Lion Guard came out, we were told that the Lion Guard is a team that protects the Pride Lands and the Circle of Life. Also, what we were told that was it was made up of a team of lions. However, what I wondered was, why did the Pride Lands not let other animals join the guard when the kingdom was first founded. Whu did it take Kion to finally let other animals into the guard?
I feel like this gave the impression of lion supremacist views because it give the impression that lions are the only one with the skills to protect the kingdom. However, we saw that other animals can defend the kingdom just as well as lions. Also, why was the guard only a team of five animals? I feel like the Pride Lands being a large kingdom, the guard should've had more members.
What do you think? Should the Pride Lands have had larger guard? Aslo, should the guard have had diverse animals from its beginning and a different name, or could the name of the guard still be the lion guard? Comment your thoughts below.
And here's a tangentially related joke that went right over my head. Zazu's a hornbill that gets saved by a shoebill. Shoehorn, as in something that can serve as protection for your feet when sliding into a shoe, much like how the bill protected Zazu from the lionesses. The more you know.
Ok, all you haters, how about you look at this shot...
They should have used this for their PR shot. Why they didn't is beyond me...

Literally, Mufasa makes a revolution speech to them and inspires them all to take down Kiros' team. Who WOULDN'T say yes to having a leader like that?
Add that with how, as others have pointed out, both Mufasa and Scar arrive in the Pride Lands instead of being born into any birthright involving the land, and all of the dots connect together even more as to how Mufasa earns the title of king despite not being born into it.
Another thing I noticed; Notice how whenever Mufasa and Scar meet Rafiki and Zazu (animals that aren't lions), Scar intends on eating them, but Mufasa sees them as useful allies. And now here, Mufasa's uniting a whole army of rhinos, elephants, zebras, ect. to fight, whilst Scar is nowhere to be seen in those shots. Maybe he tries to fight Kiros beforehand but fails, or maybe he purposefully misses out on the chance to avenge his parents because he feels bitter at how Mufasa is getting all the glory. And eventually the animals see just what Mufasa is capable of and they just vote him on the throne.
This is how it all comes down. Mufasa earns the throne, and Scar doesn't, because he understands the one thing Scar doesn't; Compassion I know that basically just spoils the ending of the movie but I love it. I love it so much.
In the trailer, I noticed that there were some shots of an earth-quake that swallows some of Kiros's lionesses. Rafiki also says "The earth must shake" (wasn't his original line, the earth will shake? Oh well).
What if this earthquake, likely caused by the groundshaking battle between the Pride Landers and Kiros's army results in the formation of Pride Rock? I mean, it's shot in such a way where you know that line and shot has significance, but I'll be damned because that would be SO COOL to see.
Jotting down my final thoughts before December. • Rafiki is the one who tells Taka and Mufasa about Milele •Taka turns against Mufasa due to growing jealousy over Sarabi, and the defeat of Kairos seals the deal • The elephant stampede is how Kairos dies • Taka gets his scar from the stampede, he is a casualty of Mufasa’s plan • Still randomly hoping that Kairos is Taka’s dad •Mufasa gets all the credit and the animals call him king • Mufasa’s backstory ends with Simba’s birth, then back to the present •Kovu will be hinted at, but not mentioned. Zira is not mentioned in the movie. • Kiara gets a new sister (not brother) at the end of the movie
I mean it would explain why we haven't seen her with Mufasa and the others. I wouldn't go as far as to say she's the lioness that hunts Mufasa and Scar down in the river, but, I can kinda see her following Kiros until the end where she joins Mufasa's revolution.
That, or she'll be a background character once again, or probably won't be in the film at all but tbh... I wouldn't mind if either of those were the case.
I’m just extremely surprised. Simba and Nala haven’t even been mentioned in the trailers but we know they are going to be in the movie. Is Disney trying to keep them a surprise? A secret? Even though they announced that their voice actors would return?
I love Simba, he’s my favorite character, so to see him excluded does suck a little bit.
So as far as we know, The Lion Guard had a cave painting on Nala’s father as a cub. Appearance wise, he resembles Kion, but has a more darker shade of gold fur. Only story we got from there is that he nearly got into an accident and was saved by the original Lion Guard led by Askari. Now some time after that in the timeline, we only see Nala and her mother Sarafina. We could only assume that he either left at some point or died early. But what if her father had a name and was involved in the original story? What is his connections to the pride and the plot? Where does he stand in all of this?
This is my estimate ages for all the characters throughout the lion king + lion guard movies and shows…
Start of lion king movie:
End of lion king movie:
Start of lion king 2 movie:
Start of lion guard:
End of lion guard:
(End of lion king 2 happens around 3-6 months prior…)
Lifespan of animals in real life:
Male lion - 14yrs
Female lion - 16yrs
Mandrill (Rafiki) - 20-25yrs
Warthog (Pumbaa) - 15yrs
Meerkat - 10yrs
red-billed hornbill (Zuzu) - 15yrs
(In the pride lands zazu + Timon would
probably live longer due to being protected from predators and having access to unlimited food & no stress or worry)
Lions normally become adults around 4 years old
I just started watching lion guard, and i noticed simba is lowkey… a bit brash? Has anyone else noticed that? Why is that? Is it because he matured and just became more serious?
Imagine if the Lion guard got a live action version of the series. Who would play each character
