A life on mars based dungeons and dragons campaign would be sick!!!

imagine a group of detectives all dying due to a modern world event and then being transported to the 70's trying to figure out what happened to them whilst trying to either prevent previous huge crimes or ensuring they happen to keep time relative. I'd be so up to either playing or be apart of a writing team for it

On Ashes to Ashes, as I stumbled upon a livejournal entry published 22 May 2010

I did check, the link is still good!

This article has been posted online, but articles have been known to disappear. So, I am relaying under the cut. If I can remember how to do the cut.

http://www.denofgeek.com/television/489472/ashes_to_ashes_series_3_episode_8_review_series_finale.html

As they said on another of their pages:

The golden rule of a spoiler-free review is not to give away an iota of the story.

The golden rule of a spoiler-free review of a series finale, particularly one as eagerly awaited as the finale to Ashes To Ashes, is this: if in any doubt, shut the heck up.

Season 2 Episode 7

How did Haslam go from living in a house, as we see at the start of the episode, and when DCI Morgan is rattling off what the neighbour woman said about Hunt being at said house to living in a flat when Sam and Gene go to relook at the crime scene. Someone seriously messed up with the continuity here.

Ashes to Ashes - Do we assume Litton gets escorted downstairs?

At the end of the episode Litton features in in Ashes to Ashes be gets escorted by 2 of Keates' henchmen.

Within the next 2 episodes we witness Keates send Viv "downstairs". And have it confirmed that's where he is.

With the benefit of hindsight, do you think that's also Litton's fate?

Song that reminds me of Life on Mars

Anyone here hears of a band called Fontaines D.C? They have one song called 'Modern World' on their new album that when I listen to I always think about Sam and Life on Mars. Especially the chorus.

"In the modern world, in the modern world,

I don't feel anything in the modern world"

And the verse is like Gene talking to sam,

"I feel alive

In the city

You despise"

Anyway that's all I really wanted to say, anyone else heard of this fantastic new band?

What change would you make to make Sam's story fit better into Ashes To Ashes narrative

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I've seen a lot of people say that because the idea of Gene's world wasn't created (or at least fully fleshed out) until Ashes to Ashes, there is a lot about Sam's story that doesn't quite fit into the idea of the world being a cops purgatory, leaving us with a lot of questions.

So my question is, if you could change or add or clarify something in Life On Mars to make Sam's story fit better into the narrative of Ashes To Ashes, what would it be?

Edit: Just to clarify! I know not everyone thinks that Sam's story doesn't fit with Ashes to Ashes. I myself think it fits. I was hoping for people who might believe that to share some ideas as to how they might change aspects of Life On Mars to fit Ashes to Ashes better.

Finished LOM & A2A and I have lots of questions!

I finished the last episode of A2A last night and I couldn’t stop thinking about it I couldn’t sleep! (Obviously spoilers ahead)

I’m just gonna list them in no particular order as they come to mind:

  1. Why did Gene and co move to London? If it’s Gene’s world, why did he have to leave his beloved northern home? And take Chris and Ray?

  2. Is Keats a demon then? And was he trying to take Shaz, Chris and Ray to hell? Or take their souls or something?

  3. Why/how come Shaz, Chris and Ray came to their conclusion/solution all at the same time?

  4. When writing LOM, did they have this sort of police-limbo theme in mind?

  5. Why did Shaz see the clown when she nearly died? I thought he was specific to Alex’s story (being the clown from the Ashes to Ashes music video, being her dad, the song that played when they died etc)

  6. Is Gene aging then? Since he died as a young man? And do all dead coppers in that world age while they are there?

I think that’s all for now, I have loads racing through my head usually but can’t think now 😂

Life on Mars would need to be set after May 1973 to be historically accurate because of the Austin Allegro

This is because the show features several Austin Allegros. The Austin Allegro was launched in May 1973. All the Allegros featured on the show are 'L' reg Allegros. The 'L' suffix at the end of the number plate was used from August 1st 1972 to July 31st 1973. This means that the Allegros in Life on Mars would have to have been registered in the two month period from late May to July of that year.

The oldest Allegro on the road in the UK is an 'L' reg and was registered on 1st June 1973. This was the same exact car that was driven by Jeremy Clarkson in 2000 in his documentary about the demise of the British car industry.

As for the police force, there is a photo online of a genuine 'L' reg Allegro panda car from the 1970s. So the police were actually using them in 1973. However, they would've still had a few older Austin 1100 panda cars around. The photo can be seen here.

I know that the cars used in the TV series were the Mk2 Allegros from 1976-79 with false plates, but if it was supposed to be accurate then it would have to have been set after Spring 1973.

I have an idea if all want to help

(Disclaimer I have dyslexia so if non of the words aren't spelt correctly I'm sorry). I have an idea for an AU basecly it's like life on mars but slowly over time Sam slowly becomes more crazy and he also develops schizophrenia...and through that schizophrenia he becomes the master and goes absolutely insane. If you guys have a better idea for this please don't be afraid to tell me and also don't be afraid too add on

Ray's chewing

Rewatched Ashes to Ashes, and... Ray is *constantly* chewing. 95% of his scenes he's chewing. No doubt this was one of those 'make the characters casual' traits, but it was bloody annoying...

How well do we think the show has aged?

I watched it as a teenager and it was the best show I'd ever seen, having a huge impact on me. Just rewatched it again and still found it incredivly entertaining, but my partner wasn't as enthralled. I can see why you would find the camera work and themes quite dated.

In my opinion the top-notch acting and storyline hold up really well.

Thoughts on Gene

Second post today (can you tell I'm rewatching it all)

Gene is the obvious favourite so I never say Gene when I'm asked who my favourite is but I've recently met people who didn't like Gene and I have no idea how.

I'll start by saying I've never seen a character so vulgar yet so lovable. His comments and quips are so quick and clever. I genuinely couldn't imagine anyone else playing Gene Hunt (especially whoever they cast in the American version🙄) Phillip Glenester was perfect and I can't fault his portrayal of the character at all.

So my question are

  1. What's your in depth opinion on Gene?

  2. What's your favourite line of his?

  3. Did anybody notice Gene speak or react in a way that may have indicated the truth bombshell in the A2A finale? (I can swear there were moments in even life on Mars where Sam was rambling and Gene looked at him with an almost acknowledging look.)

Annie or chaz?

I appreciate they played different roles but I feel like they filled the same niche of character. However ashes to ashes did a better job of making me like chaz more than life on Mars did Annie. Whadayathink?

A2A Season 2 Masons scene

S02E02

Like what the accual hell?

Ok I dont understand if the group of corrupt police officers with Mac......are they accually Masons? Or is the scene Alex watches symbolic halucination that shows Gene "joining" them?

And what about Ray? He's present on the scene they talk to each other him and Guv, Ray calls him Gene and says he can call him that because there are different rules

they later clearly refer back to the Mason scene later in CID when Ray calls him Gene again and Gene tells him now are different rules again.

But in episode 4, Ray is so suprised finding out about Mac being bent, he can't even believe it

Later we can see notes about masons on CID "investigation board"

For context I know everything I watched whole A2A many times, I may have whole screenplay in my memory, but this still confuses me so much and didnt see anybody else wonder about it
