Hello again everyone,
For anyone wanting the short version, I'll give that here. r/lgbtdndmemes is leaving Reddit and can now be found at lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/lgbtdndmemes (!lgbtdndmemes@lemmy.blahaj.zone if you're already a lemmy user. If you need an app, try Memmy for iOS, or Jerboa and LiftOff on Android. This decision is being made for a variety of reasons including severe concern over the future of the platform, hostile actions by Reddit towards various communities, and moral objections to various business moves.
And now the longer version: As many of you will likely remember, several weeks ago I held a poll on how the community should progress in lieu of the actions taken towards 3rd party apps, accessibility tools, and various moderator utilities by Reddit. As the deadline for the new API approached, despite Reddit's promises to the contrary various tools found themselves unable to function and shut down. However, Reddit did make some promises to improve certain features that were sticking points and when the deadline came and went without Joey, my primary app, shutting down I saw it as a glimmer of hope that this may eventually resolve. Given this hope I opted to wait and see before finishing setting up the transition to Lemmy.
Reddit swiftly set about correcting that conclusion. In the past few days, several moderators were forcibly removed from r/dndmemes, awards and coins were discontinued with no offers of reimbursement, and just today Joey's access to the API was terminated without warning in the midst of discussions with Reddit. Given these actions, I feel that Reddit has no honesty or good will left. While the merits of some of their changes are debatable, these recent changes are inexcusable. As such, I see nothing left for me on Reddit. With that in mind, I'm leaving for greener, less commercialized pastures and encourage you all to do the same.
I've chosen to put the community on lemmy.blahaj.zone as it's a friendly accepting queer community with a fair bit of traffic, thanks to r/196 relocating itself there. If you like LGBT reddit, I hope it'll feel like home. See you there.
Great campaign everyone, and I hope to see you again.

TL;DR We're voting on what should happen to the subreddit. Vote at https://www.rcv123.org/ballot/oQqhDu32Xtq1DzeqLJpXHP or via comment on this post ranking your choices.
Hello everyone, your subreddit dm here.
As many of you may know, r/lgbtdndmemes has been taking part of a protest against API changes made by Reddit. More information on that can be found on a previous post found here. In that post I stated that if Reddit seemed unlikely to back down, I would bring the subreddit back to restricted and make an announcement. Unfortunately, this is that announcement.
At this point, Reddit has begun to issue threats to moderators, demanding that they reopen their communities or be removed. This is more or less directly counter to the spirit of democracy and semi-independent communities that I have known Reddit for, and a step that indicates that Reddit has no interest in allowing this protest to continue. As a result I am beginning the process of leaving the platform and will be winding down my presence over the next few weeks.
With that in mind, I want to know what you want. I have no interest in staying on the platform, but I don't want the community to die unless that is the consensus. I see a few options going forward.
Voting will be available for roughly 48 hours at https://www.rcv123.org/ballot/oQqhDu32Xtq1DzeqLJpXHP. An external site is being used to minimize vote manipulation and to enable ranked voting. Please rank your preferences 1 to 5. If you do not wish to use a 3rd party link, you may rank your choices in the comments as well.
If you have any other feedback, please leave a comment.
Thank you all for being such a lovely community. I'll miss you all,

Hello r/lgbtdndmemes,
Your friendly subreddit DM here. I'm sorry that I'm not making an announcement on better terms, but I think it's important to get this down. To cut to the chase this subreddit will switch to private and become inaccessible from June 12th to a currently unknown end date in response to Reddit's API changes that will kill 3rd party apps. Most of you have probably seen other information about this on Reddit, but I wanted to make sure you all knew.
On May 31st Reddit announced drastic price increases to a development tool called the Application Programming Interface or API. Reddit's API is what allows all third party apps to exist from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to Bacon Reader, and these price increases are so extreme as to make these tools too expensive to run. Many users and moderators alike, myself included, rely on these apps for a variety of reasons such as functional accessibility tools, improved moderation functionality, and just generally having a functional app. Even if you do not rely on these third party apps, in the long term this is likely to impact tools like old.reddit and Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) as well.
In response to this many subreddits, now including r/lgbtdndmemes will be shutting down in protest. Some will return after 2 days, on June 14th, while others will remain closed indefinitely.
For more information on the exact details of why this is all going down, I highly recommend the post from ELI5, as they explain it quite well. ELI5: Why Are Subreddits Going Dark
I use third party apps and tooling as my primary method for accessing reddit. With their shutdown, I will likely leave the platform, which would leave this subreddit without a moderator. If Reddit seems unlikely to back down I will likely bring the subreddit back to restricted and leave a final announcement. Thank you all for being a fantastic community and for what it's worth, I'm sorry it's come to this.
