What is the national dish of Lesotho?

I am making a series where I cook every national dish and my first step is to come to the sub and ask the question.

now I understand that not every country has a defined national dish and that some countries have many different regions with different cuisines. in that case I will make the one that you guys agree on best represents Lesotho. please let me know what you think

How to get the E-visa?

Hello people.

I'm planning to travel in Lesotho next january. Right now, the online process seems to be down, and I've read some news about it being suspended.

I've sent an email to the immigration office, but so far I've had no answer.

So, can you shed some light into this? How should I go about getting my e-visa? I'm from Brazil and there is no consular representation over here.

If its not possible to get a visa online, I can try in South Africa. Before Lesotho, I will be in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces. Do you know if I can get my visa there? I would rather not go all the way to Johannesburg and them double back.

Thanks!

Passport stamp border control

Hi everyone, this week I have the honour to have a visit to this (so far) beautiful land and it's people.

While crossing the border today something stood out to me. While I did cross a south African border controll with stamps and checks and everything. I never got second check from Lesotho's border police, in fact there seemed to be no border check and officers to be discovered anywhere. Did I miss it?? That can't be I thought. Sure it's a border it's not easy to pass.

But I asked the people from my accomodation and they said I should have gotten two checks, and they seemed pretty certain about it. Like how will they check now if I needed a visa or anything?

So my question is if I should have gotten a check and if so, will this cause trouble when I want to exit the country again?

Thanks to anyone that wants to help me out.

Edgar Mahlomola Motuba

Hi everyone, I'm passionate about the history of Africa and while I was trying to find some information about Lesotho, I discovered what happened to Edgar Mahlomola Motuba. Since I'm a journalist, his story had an impact on me, but I'd like to analyze it more deeply. Do you know any books, articles or anything about him?

How safe are Basotho in South Africa?

there's been a surge of foreigners being kicked out of South Africa. That includes Basotho. Thing is, some tiktok videos I've seen show them described as "animals" and it feels...wrong. I understand that south Africans don't want foreigners living illegally in their country and that's cool; but is it safe to move around the nation as a mosotho, even just visiting for a day or 2?

Toast at a wedding

Hi all, I'm from the UK but will attending a Lesotho wedding next week. I'm going to be saying a few words, and would like to propose a toast at the end. What is the equivalent of saying "cheers" in Sotho? I see some websites say "Nqa" is this correct? How is that spoken if so?

Need help with Lyrics of "Now or Never" by Sankomota

Recently i have become completely obsessed with Sankomota's "Dreams do come true" album. At the end of the song "Now or never", they repeat the same 3 lines in Sesotho. https://youtu.be/uSffSzDxN_Q?si=ad4Bbpd721hzzz32 It starts at 3:07 and repeats until the end. Ive tried looking up the lyrics, but i dont think they match very well. One website says its:

U phutile matsoho
U shebile banna ha ba sebetsa
Uena!

Ive been having issues with the 2nd line, where i just cannot hear "Sebetsa" at all. Are these lyrics correct? And if yes, how do i actually pronounce it? Thanks you all.

Looking to book a ski trip in Lesotho. Want to stay in the Afriski backpackers accommodation but pictures on the website are limited. Are the facilities decent? Is the road to the lodge decent?

Also, which month has the most snow?

What would I need to pack? Any tips would be appreciated.

Bus/Taxi Maseru - Johannesburg - Suggestions?

Hello!

I'm planning in a few weeks to head from Maseru to JHB. I could only find Intercape from Ladybrand but their timetable is simply absurd. Can anyone recommend a service which provides that journey?

We (2 people) would be open to do ridesharing if the opportunity arises!

Lesotho tour

I’m visiting Lesotho in late July and would like to see as much as I can in a short period. I’ll probably only have four days, so was wondering if there were any local tour operators that do this? I would be arriving into Maseru from Bloemfontein if that helps.

Looking for some international critical thinkers

Calling all critical thinkers and those with special interests!

I have made it a mission of mine to be in every reddit sub for every nation on the earth (or at least the ones in english).

I am trying to gauge interest in any who wish to bring their passion and knowledge in a category to join a groupchat (on the dinosaur of a platform known as Facebook).

What im looking for and why:

My whole life ive been interested in different countries and cultures and the idea of having an 18+ groupchat in which many nations have a bit of representation its a dream come true. Id love to have people who are educated and capable of deep discussion about various topics.

Criteria

  1. Have a special interest in any field politics, philosphy, history, heck even those proficient in film music or theatre.

  2. You can take a joke. Its a fairly on task group chat however id say the only stuff that is censored as far as words go is any words pertaining to race or explicitly sexual material.

  3. You are respectful of different religions. The group chat is very commonly excercising various different belief standpoints and jokes as long as they are in good taste are perfectly acceptable

What to expect:

  1. Debates: these can range in a variety of topics from politics to history to science. And they can border on "heated" but at the end we are all just trying to learn and any oversteps will result in bans after a warning if course

  2. Varied religious backgrounds id say the group is about 65% Christian 35% atheist but everyone in there is comfortable with sharing details about their religion free of ridicule aside from the lighthearted jokes. We have also recently added some others majority of which are Muslim.

  3. The group right now is majorly american but there has been a fair bit of canadians that have joined and left over the three years the groupchat has been around. We recently got some members Azerbaijan, Bahrain, and Germany

  4. Right now we have experts in the following categories

Cryptocurrency TV Shows and Pop culture Philosophy American Law World History Military History Video Game History Meteorology

The group is probably like 45% autistics with special interests so we pride ourselves on knowing our craft.

  1. Each month I post news articles from every nation's internet news source in alphabetical order usually a letter a day. And we monitor and disccus the conflicts happening abroad

  2. The group is 100% male which wasnt even by design thats just how its gone so far but there isnt a gender requirement one way or the other.

The donts:

No excessive meme spam. I tend to allow discussions with GIFS but depending on how many join the chat, theres no need for excessive memes

No posting sexual or graphic material some mems walk the line but never cross it.

No racial slurs

The creator of the GC is the final authority on everything

The point of the GC is to engage and have fun. If somebody is going a month without at least reading the posts then you shouldnt have joined in the first place silly! Inactives are often removed after one month.

Lets educate eachother! The goal is to increase comradery and learm about eachother cultures.

As of right now im wanting natives to whatever nation I post this in (as I intend to copy and paste) and depending on traction Im going to try and invite either the first people who respond or the most educated.

If you want to leave a rude comment or something about how you have better things to do go ahead! This is reddit after all!

But at least for the sake of being entertaining lets avoid repeats so far ive heard

Incelfest

Sausagefest

Pretentious

Arrogant

Red pills

Sounds like Hell

Remember we are looking for people who want to make friends and debate ideas not people who think themselves witty comedians.

Where to find authentic and local Basotho Blankets in Lesotho?

I'm planning to explore Lesotho for a few weeks and I have been told about some of the local crafts. The Basotho wool blankets stood out as really well made and nice looking. I tried searching online but couldn't find any place selling them within Lesotho (just a few located in South Africa).

Where would you recommend to go for high quality and local woolen blankets? I don't mind if they are a bit expensive as long as the money go to locals and they are artisanal (and hopefully something even people from Lesotho would actually buy/use).
