This is the subreddit for fans of the video game L.A. Noire made by Rockstar Games
A dark and violent crime thriller set against the backdrop of 1940’s Los Angeles.
Amid the post-war boom of Hollywood's Golden Age, Cole Phelps, an LAPD detective is thrown headfirst into a city drowning in its own success. Corruption is rampant, the drug trade is exploding, and murder rates are at an all-time high. In his fight to climb the ranks and do what's right, Phelps must unravel the truth behind a string of arson attacks, racketeering conspiracies and brutal murders, battling the L.A. underworld and even members of his own department to uncover a secret that could shake the city to its rotten core.

Thanks a lot for upvoting the most underrated partner in L.A. noire⁉️⁉️⁉️😭
My roommate and I got L.A. Noire for the ps VR... I'm so sorry Cole
A taller man could get injured
When Leary welcomes Phelps after his promotion he mentions that he's only "one of 2 serving LAPD officers who won the silver star during the war". Who is the other one? I thought he might mean Biggs but he says "during the war", which for me implies that he only includes the latest war, WW2, and Biggs wasn't in WW2. It's also weird that Phelps doesn't know him or mention him anywhere, although I assume it might have been someone who fought in Europe.
Are those badges supposed to belong to anyone in particular?
It's him! ( case; Reefer madness)
(I had to be the manager today at work, this is a screen from me telling my roommate about it. Made me laugh multiple times throughout the day and I used that to keep my wits about me)
Not sure if this one has been asked before, probably has, but should still be fun to try out.
I've a few ideas, all involving a brand-new character. Of course, the setting would still be important as that would inform what kind of character you can have, and I've always liked the idea of an LA Noire sequel being in LA. Preferably around the same time, maybe a year or so after Cole's death. That way you can bring back some, if not all of the original cast and see what the fallout from the corruption might be.
I'm also thinking that the integration system responses need a little overhaul to be a little clearer. Accuse is fine as is and a good replacement for Lie, but Good Cop, aka Truth and Bad Cop, AKA Doubt, these newer names have never set right with me. They do fit with certain police stereotypes though. I'm thinking Accept would be more appropriate for Good Cop while bringing Doubt back but used more as a trick to coax information out. I'd like a fourth option though. Intimidate. This could be the stand-in for COLES RAGE we sometimes saw him get, whereas the others could all be more reasonable, level-headed responses. Whether it gets the desired effect or not would probably depend on any other revisions to the integration system, but that's a bit beyond what I intended this post to be about, so I'll lay off that and get back on subject.
As for the main character, this is a tough one, but I'm thinking someone with no connection to Cole and a very different back story. Older, more seasoned maybe. no army experience, maybe someone who worked in medical science so you have something of an anti Dr Fontaine. Maybe divorced or widowed, the latter might allow for his motivation to fight crime if she was murdered and he's become a detective to help find her killer, and that could be a plotline dangling through the game from the beginning, something he'll solve by the end of the game, something that ties into some other ongoing investigation whose link he only discovers later on in the game and leaves him screwed up but still determined to find her killers.
I'm even tempted with the idea of the character being a Consultant Detective ala Sherlock Holmes, called in for cases beyond the regular LAPD detective mindset. But I'm not sure how that would affect things like gun fights, car chases and arrests. Could such a person do any of those things realistically and in a legal manner given they are not a police officer? This is after all a game grounded more in reality. Maybe he could be teamed up with a partner whose got something of a Columbo vibe about him, and given Columbo was set in LA that would be a neat connection. The two of them would team up with Coles former partners on whatever cases they needed to work on. So Stefan and Rusty might grudgingly take on their help, Roy and whoever he's buddied up with now might take it on so they don't have to work so hard, and Biggs, now working alone again, probably wouldn't have time for them, until his captain made him have time.
But what about his character? I want someone calmer than Cole, more in control, someone who is not a rage monster when he doesn't get the answer he's looking for, even if that is just a mask he's put on. Someone who has a sly way of asking questions, kinda like we see Cole take up when he's working cases with Roy, maybe getting slyer still as the game progresses. This way, when he does have a reason to actually get angry at a suspect, it might take his partner by surprise. He might very well be someone who goes on, puts on music, maybe classical, then goes into a room where he keeps all his wife's stuff, and tortures himself with what their life might have been if she hadn't died. Someone who actually on some level blames her for getting killed, and can't accept that that is how he feels deep down. A broken man in a very different way to how Cole was.
I was eating dinner alone until I saw someone stand in front of my house. I haven’t called anyone over to fix my insta-heat to fix my water heater. They left a random note on the ground next to my mail box with the words: “EF GOM” I already called the cops but they send someone but he is just circling in loops
How would you guys rank the partners in LA noire from favorite to least favorite? My list is:
-Rusty Galloway (a deadbeat asshole but he really grows on you and proves to be helpful at the end)
-Herschel Biggs (probs the most sincere and MAN does he have a cool voice)
-Stefan Bekowsky (not a bad partner but not as memorable as Rusty or Herschel)
-Ralph Dunn (the tutorial partner. not very memorable, but he's not Roy Earle)
-Roy Earle (I fucking hate Roy with all my passion. Fuck this guy to hell and back.)
How many other people knew this(?), but in The Consul's Car, Valdez says he will have his Hispano-Suiza brought up from Buenos Aires. I thought this was some sort of government documentation until I recently realised that it is a Spanish car brand that still makes high-end cars today.
I'm questioning Grosvenor Mccaffery right now and when I looked carefully at the book he was reading, I saw a sweet detail! Sherlock holmes? Good choice <3
