Welcome to /r/labeling about all the aspects of the label making process. For example, what labels should look like, what information should be on them, and size of lettering.

Hello,
I need to print labels for chemical bottles at work. Ironically I work at a label making company but we don’t have the right printer to create labels at this warehouse. What kind of machine can I buy the make labels this size for spray bottles?
Hi! We are moving to our new dream home in a few months and will finally have storage to be able to sort and store things properly!
I’m starting to look at all of our new containers etc we need for pantry organisation and also labeling. Until now I’ve just used our old Dymo label maker as it has done the job but I’m looking for something more aesthetically pleasing.
We are a large family so have lots of things requiring regular labeling and the house will need lots of labeling for kitchen, linen, garage etc
I’m considering investing in a Cricut Joy as it seems like the most cost effective and easy to use system for me. Are there any alternatives I am missing for home labeling?
Much appreciated 😊
Munbyn sent me their new AirPrint printer to review. RW401AP. Pretty neat with a few tricks up its sleeve. My Mikrotik routers don't like it much though.

Who has the 500? I've been reading that there are huge issues with cartridges not being recognized and 2" tapes not being available. That of course means having a 2" label maker is useless.
I own the XTL 300 and I pretty much love the thing but it isn't my favorite label maker either.
I'm curious about the XTL 500 and the comments I have been seeing. I see places like Image Supply selling and having 2" tapes in stock.
Anyway, if you have any input, please let me know.
For some unexplainable reason I own somewhere around 15 or slightly more label makers and always looking for another one. Also for some strange reason a found a couple of used Dymo Rhino labelers at prices too cheap to pass up.
But try as I might to find my perfect label maker the closest thing I own to perfect is the Epson LW-PX900.
And it is odd how my label maker needs have changed over the years. During my working years I almost only did heat shrink labelling. Now that I'm retired it is simple text labels and magnetic strip labels. Cable wraps too, now that I've upgraded my home network.
Curious what others think their "perfect" label maker is. No right or wrong answer.
Bought 2 "for parts" zebra printers.
LP2844Z
GK420d
The LP2844Z works perfectly on USB but the ethernet jack flashes green 9x's per second which means it can't find a network. I have tried EVERYTHING.
The GK420d will not connect to Mac or Windows via USB but will print over ethernet. I had to reset the network though. Using the Seagull Scientific drivers for it. Can't try to flash firmware because no USB.
Weird stuff but I got both for $40. Probably will eventually flip them but not done playing with them trying to make them work. C
We've just got one of the above pieces of kit at my work, and I've used the Database function on P-Touch Editor 5.4 to save a list of product labels to the printer's memory. The layout has the following objects:
Object | Constant/Variable |
---|---|
Brand Logo | Constant |
Statutory information | Variable |
Barcode | Variable |
Batch Date | Constant |
Statutory Info Title | Title |
Product Name | Variable |
Each record in the database is for a separate product, with its own name, barcode, and statutory information. However, the title for the statutory information is the same across all the products, as is the batch date.
The database has been saved to the printer's memory, and works fine. However, when cycling through the list of products on the printer, the name of the record seems to be the title of the statutory information, which is the same across all products. (eg: They're all called "Ingredients", but the actual ingredients are different for each one)
Is there any way to change the name of the record on memory so that it's the product name, which is more easily identifiable? The order of the objects in the table above is how it's listed in P-Touch, so it's not like the first object is the name of the record.
Thanks!
I wanted to buy 2 shipping label makers and while researching I noticed that there are very few actual hands on reviews out there. Most web sites say "Best 5 of 2023" or something yet there are no hands on reviews. Just affiliate links.
I bought 4 shipping label makers with my own cash, talked to my daughter who has one and ordered a 20 year old Zebra label maker (which I haven't received yet).
Threw together an ACTUAL review site with no affiliate links. Hope this helps someone looking for a new shipping label machine.

I occasionally ship items and use a local box shop. Love the place but figured out I can do it quicker and easier from home myself.
While doing all the requisite research I found the USPS site doesn't play nice with my thermal printer (Dymo 5XL). I have to download as PDF, screenshot, and print from Mac Preview. A fair amount of workaround steps. It's not that big of a deal but it sure would be nice to click and print without multiple steps.
UPS recommends a handful of thermal printers that work with their service, and FedEx recommends even less.
About the time you think that one size does not fit all you realize you can use a postage service like PirateShip for USPS and UPS and offers up pre-formatted labels for 4"x6" thermal printers. PirateShip also recommends certain label printers (Brother).
Nobody recommends my Dymo 5XL and after using it and Dymo Connect software I know why. I gave it my coveted POFS shit award on my blog.

I'm somewhat surprised though how each service offers the ability to print and ship from home but isn't standardized. Seems like there is a giant opening to create that one perfect thermal printer that works across all platforms, that takes non-proprietary labels.
Anyway, I'm curious for input what the best printer / shipping service combo is. I'm trying to dissect all this in a blog I'm writing. And I may replace my Dymo. That would actually be stupid because I can make it work, I don't ship much at all but I'm one of those guys who wants to know what the best tech is and to HAVE IT.
I own a bunch of label makers and am sort of obsessed with trying a bunch of them and seeing which one is best. My wife will kill me when I die and see how many I own.
Anyway, I blog about them from time to time if anyone is interested. You don't see a ton of reviews or blogs on label makers.
One of our vintage Citizen label printers has died and I need to replace it with a CL-S521 - except we're on an equally vintage Bartender 10.0 SR3.
Anyone know if the drivers available for the CL-S521 will work with 10?
It's in the budget to get a new Bartender suite in 2022, but that's 6 months away!
I am running an old version (9.4 SR1) of BarTender that Seagull no longer supports. My computer is needing to be replaced. I found the install CD but I can't find my product Key. Does anyone know if there is a way to look up the product key? Does the software create a txt file during install where it is recorded or is it noted in some other file that I can search for? Or does the product key just flip a switch during installation to activate different editions of the software?
Neither the current computer nor the new one has internet access.
Thank you
I can't find my original install disk and need to find a 20-year-old copy of BarTender. Seagull no longer offers support for it and wasn't able to send me a copy. Any chance anyone out there has a copy of BarTender Professional 9.4 SR1?
Thank You
