Avoid west main between Drake and Turwill

Not sure what the deal is but there are 10 billion cops, firefighters, ambulances near Little Caesars on West Main. Complete gridlock.

Edit: it sounds like it was a shooting at Little Caesar’s.

Crossfit---what's your experience?

Hey Kzoo Fam, 40ish M here.....Looking to join a local gym and would prefer one with classes to ensure I get a decent workout. Newer Crossfit just opened near me but I'm weary based on stigma attached (right or wrong). Anyone have any input on their experiences and what is typical cost (not shown on web site)?

Nutcracker Performances

Hello all! I wanted to invite you again this year to Tye Chua Dance's performance of The Nutcracker! I know many of you came last year based on my post so here I am again 😅

Our cast is made up entirely of our own students, from children through older adults! The shows are just around an hour which is nice if you have small kids - we also have a "no shushing" policy as we want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy the magic of dance! So bring your kids, your friends, your family - it's a great show! Tickets are available at tyechuadance.com/tickets

KTV is organizing our 3rd annual Heads in Beds for Christmas 2024. This is a massive project & we'd like to invite you to join us!

Hey Guys! It's here, our 3rd annual Heads in Beds for Christmas! A Christmas Hotel Project for the Unhoused.

Once again, my goal is 100 heads in beds! Last year we had 104 heads in beds, the year before we had 71.

Whatever number we reach this year- we will do what we can, how we can, when we can, and we will do it with love!

Hands-down, we have decided that this is the best Christmas gift that we can give people who are unhoused! There is a lot of information on this flyer!

We provide hotel rooms, transportation, underwear, bras, socks, clothing, hygiene and personal items, meals AND food for each hotel room, an opportunity to do laundry and a whole lot of love!

Last year we even had a baby born! The mother safely labored in the bathtub of the hotel room and just in the nick of time, gave birth at the hospital!

There is a whole lot of information surrounding this, it is a massive event/undertaking and some things are still being worked out. We are looking for someone to volunteer to cut hair and maybe do simple manicures? Easy self care stuff. Please let me know if you're interested.

Sign-up sheets for Volunteer efforts will come out in about a week to 10 days. I will do my best to stay on top of updating the Kzoo thread, if you are interested in signing up a group, it's advised that you get on our email list! Please check your calendar for the entire week as there is a lot to be done to pull this off!

At this time, check-in will be December 24th and check out will be December 27.

Just like last year, I will NOT be announcing how to sign up for the hotel rooms until the week of Christmas. Please do NOT message, text, email or call me asking for a room. If you were exited last year or in the following months and/or are banned from the hotel, you will NOT be allowed to participate.

For the safety of those staying in the hotels and the sanity of the hotel staff, I will not share the location or name of the hotel.

This project is solely sponsored by us – OUR community! We CAN do this, so let's get rolling!

Please put "Heads in Beds" in notes if you are able to chip in and please remember that five dollar donations add up!

One Republic truck just picked up trash and recycling on my street

Last week’s pickup was delayed due to snow. But I just watched everyone’s trash and recycling get dumped into the same truck, and I’m wondering where to report it.

  1. I’m not happy that all that recycling just got trashed and
  2. We pay for 2 separate services and one of them didn’t happen this week.

Edit: Thank you everyone for your efforts in trying to educate me about the imperfection of the American recycling industry. I already know this. But that’s not the point here.

The point is that recycling pickup is a service provided by the city and paid for by taxes. They aren’t supposed to just throw all of it into the trash. I’m simply asking if anyone knows where it should be reported.

Thanks.

Looking for an office (closet) near downtown.

I'm hoping to find a very reasonably priced office near downtown. The actual office specifics don't matter much (basically, a closet with a mailbox). It just needs to have a commercial mailing address and needs to be accessible to UPS/FedEx/our technicians. Anybody know of anything that will meet my needs?

'Sleeper Rooms' at Bronson

I have a necessary out-patient thing coming up at Bronson but, as I live alone, I don't have anyone willing to get up at 0500 and drive me 40 miles to Bronson, hang around for 6 or more hours and then drive me back again - and then stay with me for 24 hours. (lawyers, I guess.) So, they told me they have 'sleeper rooms' where they would prefer I stay for the night. I would like to drive home when they're done but I could hear the horror in the nurse's voice when I said so.

Has anyone done this? What can I expect there? Will they feed me (I wouldn't have eaten since dinner the day before). Will I be a 'prisoner'? Or could I go out to my car and get things, hang out, and then head back in?

I ask because I deal with a condition where being in places that are not mine and not being in control of my immediate surroundings wigs me out and often triggers a not-all-that pleasant response. And, in all my 66 years this will be the first time as an adult I'll be at a place out of my control and I'm freaking out about even the thought of it now.

Any advice or positive input would be appreciated.

Fishing boat charters that would be good for beginners?

My Dad and my brother are flying out from the UK at the end of June next year. None of us have ever been fishing before but they're really into the idea of chartering a boat and heading out onto one of the great lakes.

Is this possible or worth doing for us? My dad has his skipper license but I'm not sure that will matter at all lol
