Moving to Kilmarnock?

Hi all! I had a look but could only find threads from 2-3 years ago minimum and wanted a more up-to-date insight.

My hubby and I are trying to buy a house but we're near Glasgow and it is hell trying to find anything we'd like that isn't exceptionally overpriced. He has a colleague who moved to Kilmarnock a while back and he's recommended it and the houses do seem more-for-your-money but, of course, that does make me a little wary.

Would love to hear how it is there. How are the schools? Locals? Is there a town centre / retail area?
(Note that I'm originally from Greenock so I understand if somewhere is rough lol but might also be good for comparison)

Thank you so much ♥

Lock-up garage

Does anyone know of anyone with a lockup to rent? I've tried the council already but they say I don't live close enough to their ones to get on the waiting list...

Meet people?

Hello! I moved to the area a couple months ago and I am finding it impossible to meet anyone outside of work. My colleagues are lovely, but it would be nice to have a friend or two that I don’t have to see in a professional capacity. I’m foreign and haven’t gotten my license switched over yet, both of which makes things difficult as well. I’m in my late 30s, single, no kids. My interests are reading, gardening, my dog, food (cooking, learning new recipes, trying new things, etc), kickboxing, music, tattoos, rugby (watching), art/crafts, video games, interested in D&D but never actually played, puzzles, escape rooms and axe throwing.

Any serious suggestions would be very appreciated! TIA

Taxi advice.

Don't jump in a taxi at the temporary rank, then ask him to take you to The Standing Man.

They do not appreciate it.

What issues plague Kilmarnock the most?

If a new councilor were to be elected for the Kilmarnock west and cross house by election coming up.

What do you want from them. Or what would you want to tell them that they need to get done as a councilor?

Taxi/Uber Services in Kilmarnock?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a trip to Kilmarnock and was wondering about the availability of taxi or Uber services in the town. Is it easy to find a ride, especially in the late evenings or early mornings? Are there local taxi companies that you would recommend, or is Uber a reliable option in this area?

Any insights or experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hotel prices

Hey guys. I’m coming up to killie for a football match on the 19th July (Friday night) I’m trying to find a reasonable priced hotel but all I can find are ones costing upwards of 200 quid for one night some even a grand. What’s happening that night that’s causing such prices??

Barber recommendations

Tried all the top rated places, don't like any of them. Is there a hidden gem that can do decent gents cuts somewhere?

Kilmarnock Facebook Scammers

I've noticed that some of the local Facebook groups are plagued with posts featuring links to dodgy website's by scammers. Most recently it's been in the form of news stories. Its never been this bad.

Makes you glad none of this crap appears on Reddit.

Participation in this online survey about UK citizens' views and perceptions of society (18+; 15 minutes to complete)

Hello, we are a group of psychology researchers from the University of Kent, UK. We are conducting a study about UK citizens' views and perceptions of society and we are trying to recruit a representative sample from different areas in the UK.

It would be a huge help if any UK citizens interested would fill out our online survey (18+ years old only):

EDIT: The survey is now closed! Thank you very much for your time, we will be sure to post the results up here when they're ready.

The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete, and we are happy to respond to any queries or questions. Please private message us to avoid giving away the point of the study to others.

Although the study is voluntary, participants who complete the survey will have the option to take part in a raffle of three Amazon Vouchers (£20).

Thank you in advance for your time!

Does This Coin have the Kilmarnock Coat of Arms?

I came across this coin in a great uncle of miens collection, he sadly passed away a few years ago but he left behind a coin collection which he started before the war, among the coins is a very curious coin which can be seen here: https://imgur.com/a/nA068K5

These are the Two faces of the coin, they appear to be similar if not the same

I was was suggested to me in another Subreddit that the coin could carry the Kilmarnock coat of arms so I thought this would be a good place to ask for additional insight. I look forward to any input, either telling me I am barking up the wrong tree or hopefully with some more information on this coins origins.

It might be an older generation thing, but I've heard 'Shortsleeves' and 'Capey' (park) - what other nicknames are there for places in and around Kilmarnock?
