I’m drinking 8oz water every hour from 7a to 11p, and peeing on par for what my intake is but I’m stumped as to why these look like this!
Ive known that Ive had a 6mm stone in my kidney for the last year. Two weeks ago im surfing in hawaii for my fucking honeymoon and of course that makes it snap off and cause problems. Thankfully was able to manage and enjoy the rest of the trip.
I had an ultrasound last week and its stuck at the UVJ. I do all the flomax/bath/jumping/CP/whatever to try and get it out and ive scheduled an appt with a urologist in a few weeks in case I dont manage and need litho or whatever.
Last night around 3am I wake up with excruciating pain, the worst so far. Lasts for like 10-15 mins and then its gone completely. Im fully pain free. Thats never been my experience with colic, usually the pain fades into a dull ache. Im now excited cuz I think its finally made it into my bladder.
Today I get up, and of course, my back is aching. So its probably still there. This is fucking up my psyche so bad and I just needed to vent.
Thanks all
There's always been some mild speculation about this, that perhaps the reason why some people get kidney stones while others eat tons of oxalates with no issue is due to bacteria (or lack of). O-Formigenes eats oxalates, and we're generally colonized with it as infants, but it's a fragile bacteria and dies off easily. I suspect this may be a big reason for the differences between people. Looks like this study aims to find out how big of a difference this might make, and if supplementing keeps it in the body (or if it has an effect at all).
So for the past over a month i've been dealing with this, and I already had a kidney infection which i just got off the antibiotics for a week and a half ago. I went to urgent care a couple days ago because i start having urinary pain again after having a stone pain attack and my urine culture just came back and i tested positive for an infection again. My body is extremely sensitive, the antibiotic I just finished taking (augmentin) was extremely hard on my body to the point I am dealing with extremely uncomfortable and painful symptoms even after I've discontinued use. To the point where I have such bad nerve inflammation that can't walk well due to pain. how am i going to be able to tolerate antibiotics again?
I reached out to my urologist of course can't see her / they can't fit me in. I was never given any prescription for pain or flomax or anything. I've been drinking over a gallon of water a day to try to pass and still nothing. what do i do? does anyone have advice? I have been suffering in hell since this has began. I've been to the er twice, urgent care multiple times, the urologist once a few weeks ago. I'm genuinely worried for my wellbeing.
I am so frustrated with this process and it just seems like it gets worse.
I had a PCNL about 6 weeks ago to remove a 3cm kidney stone in my left. The dr. said that there was a stone that he could not get and recommend that I got back in for a ureteroscopically +laser in 2 weeks. I was not ready to go back in- and I wanted to get a CT to see what was actually left.
The results are confusing to say the least- the parts that are concerning to me is that is says, "tract left flank with calcifications along the tract the largest stone is at the flank muscles measuring 6 mm." my primary care confirmed that is weird.
Has anyone had to repeat a PCNL or do another surgery after it?
I really would like to be stone free at some point.
Got my shockwave done, feels like i got my ass kicked and now im pissing sand. Thats it. Thats the post 🥲
I'm not an everyday heartburn sufferer, but I wondered what my other calcium oxalate stoners do/take when heartburn hits. I'm feeling it today, but the ginger gummies I have are not touching it :(
I know this is an odd question, but I’m looking for footage of someone experiencing kidney stone pain.
I am trying to illustrate what it feels like to friends that haven’t gone through it. My descriptions and accounts of what it was like are being taken as exaggeration, hyperbole… it’s hard for me to explain.
Photos of stones just kind of lack the connecting of dots for people about what the pain is like and where.
I tried googling it and just drowning in Instructional medical videos.
Anyone have a video of someone going through the pain for real?
Thanks
You like it or not Vitamine D or C lets your body makes a lot of kidney stones. You will tell me you need vitamine d with k2 bla bla bla , NO! it will not make difference you will get stones and I have exprience with it I will share later everything about myself
After an intense, throbbing, stabbing sensation in my lower right back, i went to the ER last saturday, fearing appendicitis. It turns out i have a 2.6 mm kidney stone. I havent had pain that intense since, but lately ive been having a burning sensation when urinating. Has it moved through the ureter yet? Im not sure what stage im in right now. Ive been taking flowmax, antibiotics, and 2 pain meds as well as a nausea relief.
went to the ER with severe flank pain (same feeling I had with my last stone) got a CT with and without contrast, no stone indicated. I felt really defeated because it feels EXACTLY like my last one. The next day I started peeing out sediment, so I’m assuming the CT scan missed a stone? I’ve been on flomax for a week and feel the pain getting lower, but today my urine output has been decreasing rapidly. In the last 4 hours I’ve had 80 ounces of water, but MAYBE have urinated 5 ounces. Time for ER or should I wait until morning?
I am 5 weeks post pcnl and the scar still hurts, itches and I think there are disposable stitches sticking out. I've been tested for a uti and I don't have one. Is this normal? My back hurts too but it feels like the rib above that kidney is out.
I've been passing a stone for a few months and had uti symptoms a few days ago. Went and saw the practice nurse and said I have a uti and she handed me a cup and said give me a sample, tested it and gave me antibiotics out of the cupboard they have rather than wait at the pharmacy for them to make it up. She asked "do you need any painkillers, its been awhile since you had sevredol prescribed etc" and made sure I had what I needed. It was so different to other times where I've had to fight for or request certain things (a Voltaren injection is usually 👌) especially compared to when I was called a drug seeker and other staff there refused to listen or believe me til I had sepsis and then they had to fly me over to a bigger more qualified hospital...
Hi, I am starting FloMax today or Tamsulosin 0.4mg
Should I be taking this in the AM or at night?? Does it really matter? Am worried about it making me dizzy as I go throughout my day
Thank you in advance.
Hi Everyone!!! 24(Female) I got a urethral stunt last week and my doctor says that your next surgery in which they will remove stone could take up to three or four month because of public waiting list system.
I just wanted to know if anybody has gone through this, •••➡️Do we completely have to rely on painkillers, suppository tablets and flomax for three months?
•••➡️Or do with get acquaintance with it after a month?
•••➡️Plus how can one get urinary tract infection with it?
•••➡️Does walking cause the stent to injure the kidney or bladder which results in pain and bleeding or not?
•••➡️Drinking lots of water helps it, I know but if I drink water at night I can't sleep due to frequent urination.
•••➡️Last but not least does moving a lot, sleeping on stent side, or bending causes the stent to rotate or something which causes pain?
•••➡️Any dietary recommendations will be appreciated 👍🏻 I have no allergies, no pre-existing conditions.
Yesterday I kinda only walked a lot which caused the pain and the bleeding.
Any kind suggestions would be appreciated. My urologist didn't explain me well. And wasn't much concerned about it.
Thanks in Advance. This group is really helpful, otherwise I would have gone crazy😭🙏🏻
Not sure if this is the right subreddit as I don’t exactly know what’s going on with my kidneys yet. I’ve had a lot of kidney stone complications/ stents- four large stones/ surgeries and many more stent placements and now my urologist believes there’s a ureteral obstruction, low kidney function etc. I had a renal scan last week to get a better idea of kidney function and I haven’t been able to get in touch with my doctor just yet after seeing my results. I feel like I’m not understanding the findings correctly and hoping someone has experience here. I’m worried; any advice would be appreciated. Basically the doctor told me that this test would determine if I need invasive surgery because the stones will keep forming and getting stuck.
Hey guys I’ve been experiencing flank pain with throbbing and burning sensation for a year now. I had a CT scan done with contrast, although it didn’t report any stones. What is this then? The doc said my kidneys are a bit swollen but due to chronic utis. I’m at loss, whenever I feel my kidney pain I get all the systemic symptoms but blood work for infection markers are within normal range. Could the stones be missed?
Hi all. Been suffering for 3 months with severe lower back pain and flank pain but brushed it off as being a tired mom postpartum (4months). Had symptoms of fainting and blood pressure dropping and shaking uncontrollable with feeling faint. Got diagnosed with kidney infection and two 1mm stones showed up on the CT scan on Monday. I’m on medication and resting drinking as much water as possible but I saw blood in my underwear coming from my urethra and also when peeing mucus blood was floating in my urine but no stone yet. Stones are in pelvic region close to bladder. I feel extremely weak, my heart feels heavy, breathing feels weird and I am also faint is this normal? I have no fever and mild pain, like stabbing and dull in my pelvis and flank (left)… when should I get help for these symptoms?
30 yo male, getting this stent removed in office tomorrow. What should I expect for pain and feeling?
The thought of it makes me want to vomit.
I had a ureter stone , kidney stone that was removed successfully last Monday
My problem is they inserted something called Folly catheter on my penis and it is very uncomfortable
Can I remove it myself by pulling it ?
They ask me to wait 7 days , but I can not wait
What is the earliest suitable time to remove it without complications?
How long for Soreness to stop after passing a stone?
I currently have a 4 mm kidney stone and just started my period. I haven’t passed the stone yet—I’ve been straining my urine, and the kidney stone pain has paused temporarily. But since my period started the other night, my cramps have been unbearable. I usually have period cramps, but they’re never this intense! Has anyone else experienced this? Can kidney stones actually make period cramps worse, or is it just a coincidence? Looking for any advice or similar experiences!
We found a 5mm and 2mm stone on my ct scan. I had lithotripsy, but they said they couldn't break it up and a second ct scan showed the 5mm stone at the bottom of the ureter. The pain waves only happen once or twice a day now. I have been straining and it is catching a lot of material..
Is this damaged tistissue or stones?

Since then, I went back to Urgent Care (scans revealed a 9mm stone in my left kidney and a stone in my right…just goes to show you that CTs are not always accurate). I made an appointment with my urologist (couldn’t get me in until next week), and ended up in the ER yesterday.
I was supposed to have surgery this afternoon. I got a call about an hour before I was supposed to go in. I have a UTI, so my doctor doesn’t want to operate (completely understandable—I don’t want to risk sepsis). So, I’m on an antibiotic, and we will touch base in a few days.
He does want to get the stones out, so that is on the horizon. They’re still up in my kidney and not looking like they are trying to pass.
I’m just frustrated at the situation. I was concerned about a UTI over a week ago, but nothing showed up until yesterday. I just want these out of me so I can stop worrying about them. My urologist is amazing, but it’s harder than anything to contact his office.
I’ve had stones for 23 years…this is the first time one has presented like this. I hate feeling like a ticking time bomb. I’m stressing about missing work. I also don’t deal well with uncertainty.
Thanks for listening to me vent. It’s been a crazy ride.
hello! i’m 18F i’ve had kidney stones since 13 but never this bad. I’ve been trying to pass a 4mm stone for about a month now. off and on unbearable pain etc. when i went to the ER (about a month ago) they gave me some meds and sent me on my way. no stent and they told me it was on the way out. On my chart it said i had right sided hydronephrosis (something is blocking my kidney so it swells up with pee) -from google right delayed nephrogtam (something is blocking my kidney and it is not functioning right) - also google
i’m really just looking for some advice if there’s some long term affects of these issues? I’m concerned about it not passing yet. and since it’s 4mm i feel like I would see it! I have a follow up next week i’m just wondering if there’s anything I should be worried about for the sake of my kidney function. i had some other abnormal lab results and i am just hoping it’s all from this stone and nothing else.
edit: also having uti symptoms is that from the kidney stones just not passing yet?
Roughly the same size, definitely a little smaller but can’t believe I didn’t feel this. Needless to say I’ll be drinking lemonade and water religiously again
I don’t know why, but right after a procedure it is much more comfortable to sit and pee than to stand and pee. Does anyone have the same experience?
After nearly FOUR LONG years I FINALLY got my kidney stone removed from my body through lithotripsy! Had a stent in for 6 months , they removed it, got the stone out and replaced the stent that I’ll have removed in 2 weeks. The lights almost there! Apart from the pain of the new stent (the pain will go away in a couple days) I feel great! I wish all of you guys the best of luck. This subreddit really helped me.
