Hi all,
I am new to isopods. I know they can breed and have offsprings. I was told that I could keep 15-30 heads/pieces in a 20cmX20cmX20cm tub with minimum 3 inches of substrate and will have to move them to a bigger tub once theres offspring.
The question is how do I move them? And second question is if i do have to move them, could i just store them in a bigger tub e.g 37cmX22cmX25cm?
i’ve had more or less a consistent population boom for 3 months; i have 8 adults and countless babies. i have a daily refill of bloodworms, mysis, and daphnia in the little shells, every other day i’ll add some small pieces of fruits and vegetables in (they usually hide those away lmao) and the obvious leaf litter/moss as well.
my main worry is i don’t want the slug to hurt the isopods or the isopods to hurt the slug, and i don’t want to get one and find out the hard way lol.
Porcellionides pruinosus
Hello. I have a very small fish tank, and I'm not sure what to do with it. It's an Aqueon Minibow--the 2.5 gallon size. The base is about 11.5 inches from left to right, and 5 inches front to back, increasing to more like 7.5 inches in the middle. (It has a curved front.) The lid is somewhat loose-fitting, but not with gaps big enough for anything to crawl out, and there's a hole that's about 1.25 inches by 2 inches. (I realize that would probably need to be covered with mesh.)
Would those specifications be suitable for an isopod tank?
in order: magic potions, spiky, B.C. Maples and Red Klugii
Wood mite? Soil mite? Looks like they hitchiked on my last batch of leaf litter.
Approx 0. 5 mm in diameter, slow moving, reddish brown colorarion and very shiny.
Seems like the solution is to just not feed for a while and let the springtails outcompete? Appreciate any advice here.
Hello! I was wondering if theres a reddit where I can learn to start a tank or if this is the spot? (I dont wanna inundate this reddit w/ em espec if theres one I can look through ya know?)
I do have one question, though and it's can you mix the like. "Species" of the isopods (like, i know there dairy cows and rubber duckys but they're different kinds of rolly-pollys? Like theres also flatter ones and orange ones??). Or will they eat each other.
I feed them cuttlebone, shrimp and leaf litter. But I see some of my pods have pale color. Help. What food should I give them?
from now on when I bring anything from outside I'm either boiling it or baking it in an attempt to kill mold spores (i usually just freeze or submerge stuff). My substrate is healthy enough.
++++++My question for anyone that may know. Which is more likely to kill dormant mold spores? Baking or boiling? Or maybe I should bake AND boil.
and with both baking and/or boiling how long would you recommend?++++++
UPDATE: I'm not talking about ALL mold. I'm talking about a specific mold that ONLY comes from the things I'm taking from outside. and if I haven't mentioned it before. The mold I'm talking about my springtails WON'T touch it!
I saw an isopod chase down and kill a cockroach on Billibilli. The isopod was large and appeared to be Porcellio hoffmannseggii. Is there any evidence of this happening? I can't find the video (It was in Chinese)
I live on a big property so I’ve been getting leaves from outside but it’s been rainy recently and soon it’ll snow. Is there a place to just buy dry leaves or a way to store leaves and keep them dry and mold free over winter? Their terrarium is 12” tall and wide and 8” deep and I usually load up about 8” tall of leaves which lasts them around two months so I just need a few extra batches of leaves to last over winter and the rainy part of spring
