my colony of powder blues absolutely LOVE cucumbers and devour them so fast. but they hate blueberries and will not eat them at all. they're such funny little guys. i never knew arthropods could have preferences before i started keeping beetles and isopods. anyone else experience this?
They have a good moisture gradient and lots of hiding places!!
What do you folks think I'm looking at. About to molt? Random mutation?
Hi y'all! I've been planning on making my pet enclosures bioactive, so I'm beginning the process of getting my springtail cult going. Eventually I'd like to add some isopods to my CUC cult, but since the enclosures are for two different animals, I'm curious what kind of isopods would be best.
This project in progress originally started after adopting two rats a few months ago. Then, about a week ago, I was unwittingly adopted by a baby house gecko I rescued from one of my cats. I also have a ferret and, if my set ups go smoothly, I plan to research bioactive options for her as well.
So my questions are:
Does it matter what kind of isopods should be used for each animal??
If so, what kind is recommended for each enclosure/what kind can be used for all of them??
Is it better to use an isopod type that can be used for all of them or, should I keep two seperate cults of different types for each pet??
TIA! 🖤
I recently got a colony of about 30 dusty orange pruinosis over my winter break. They're doing well but they haven't been in their new home for too long. I want to move them into my dorm room but i'm worried that the move might disrupt whatever they've got going on. Will they be alright? What can I do to make it easier on them? I plan on keeping their current enclosure and just putting them somewhere new
Will post pod tax later.
P.S. Is it OK to give them fish flakes as a supplement? i've heard it's good for them but I've tried it with other colonies and they(my pods) weren't into them.
Any idea what these are that are feasting in a rice grain? I doubt it's a springtail, but they are fast and flightless. Looks more like a bug than an ant and it's blackish that has a shorter antennae than your usual springtails
I’d love some stories/insight/advice from those with these little guys. I’m honestly really pleased with how active and out they are so far.
Some are all black while others are light colored with gold speckles. Very active and hardy species.
(You can get these and many others like Duckies and Red Pandas 10+ counts/$40 at ArtesianExotics.com! I've only got two boxes left so if you're weather is nice get your order in for Wednesday morning arrival.)
Hi I recently set up a few isopod enclosures and I was looking for really small hygrometer or separate temp/ humidity meters for a 6 quart shoe box. I don’t want anything too big, just want to monitor these measurements for ideal habitat.
Thank you in advance, love the community !!!!
I had a post recently showing what my enclosures looked like, if you wanted to see it.
