Just thought I'd share this brand of coco coir for anyone stuck on what they should get, looks pretty good. I circled the stuff that's in this. It comes nutrient packed, so you shouldn't have to purchase lime, worm castings, etc, for your substrate separately since it comes with it. You should be good just mixing this with some organic soil, mulch, and a little charcoal(for smell and aeration). You still will need to buy leaf litter and cork bark for them to nom on and hide in.
Hi friends! my colonies have blown up like crazy and I'm looking to downsize just a tiny bit lol.
I have p. pruinosis oranges, blues, floria, white outs, and p. scaber dalmatians.
I love giving tiny goodie bags when I rehome so you'll be getting one of those, they consist of a random selection of things the little ones love. ^^
If anyone is interested, feel free to PM! Thank you! :)
From PA, USA. I’m sorry about the quality. It’s super hard to get photos of them. They are tiny af
Yeah
I have 2 bins absolutely filled with gnats. I have them separated in another room with a katchy, sticky traps on the bins, a bowl of water and soap, and to one ive added mosquito dunks. The traps catch and kill quite a few but it seems like they only come back worse. Is there anything else i can do to help speed it up?
Any tips on how to tell the difference between these two? I always get them mixed up and I've tried googling but still can't seem to grasp it. Is it possible at a glance or is it something you really need to pay attention to?
I currently live in Oregon but I'm moving 2,000+ miles away for grad school so I want to downsize since the whole process will be hard on both them and me. Because of this I'm willing to sell at great prices. If anybody in northwest Oregon or Southern Washington is interested in expanding their collection I would prefer to sell locally since I've never shipped live animals before but I can also probably figure out shipping if you're willing to help work that out with me.
I have...
A. klugii (Montenegro)
A. klugii (Dubrovnik)
A. maculatum (Zebra)
Cubaris sp. "Panda king"
A. vulgare (Tangerine)
P. Scaber (Lava)
Cubaris murina (Mix)
Porcellio Dilatatus "Giant Canyon"
A. Vulgare (American Magic Potion)
A. Gestroi
Cubaris sp. “Blue Pigeon”
Oniscus asellus (B. C. maple)
P. Hoffmanseggi (Whatever the classic morph is)
P. Haasi (High Yellow)
Nesadillo Arcangelii (Silver Ghost)
Nesadillo Arcangelii (Shiro Utsuri)
Troglodillo sp. “Soil”
Cubaris sp. “Rubber Ducky
Cubaris sp. “Blonde Ducky”
P. Magnificus
Reductoniscus tuberculatus
If you’re local I may be able to get you some juvenile P. Werneri but they’re a bit too fragile for me to feel comfortable shipping them
Anyway, I think this is a mostly complete list. Please message me if you're interested or if you have any questions. Many thanks :)
My isopods are in a temporary tank and the only substrate I had to hand was compost. I have supplemented this with spagnum moss, orchid bark, and some grit. Will this work long term or should I upgrade their substrate?
The pods also have egg shells, sticks, cork bark, charcoal pieces and leaf litter.
TIA
Hello, I have a colony of orange dalmatian isopods and I have noticed the population becoming generally whiter with time. Would adding some Spanish oranges to the population for genetic diversity help to boost the orange color in future generations? Any alternative advice?
is there such thing as them being too deep down?
Found this pod in my mums garden im the uk
Hi friends! I did some digging through this subreddit and on the internet, and I'm finding mixed results. Are fallen/dead/dying leaves from ficus elastica, golden pothos, dieffenbachia (dumbcane) safe to give to isopods?
Some sources say dumbcane and pothos are potentially toxic, and others say they're fine. It's no biggie for me to continue throwing out my pruning as usual, but is it safe to give them to isopods?? Thanks!!
I was thinking of putting them in their own smaller tank so I could watch em grow more closely! (Also so they don’t get squashed when I change stuff out in the tank) is that ok or should I not separate them from the adults? If so, might put my snail and my pods in separate tanks till they’re bigger so I don’t have to jostle them as much. (Snail needs food changes and occasional tank cleanings)
Hi friends! I'm brand new to isopod keeping and I'm so excited! I'm starting with two cultures, one culture of cubaris murina papaya and one culture of armadillidium vulgare Japanese magic potion, plus a small springtails colony to seed both. They'll be getting here on Monday and I'm SO EXCITED!
However, when I was researching species, variants, and morphs and which one is the right fit for me - I was really surprised at the cost differences. I know some species take a much longer time to mature and start a colony, but is that why some species - particularly cubaris are so expensive?? Are duckies and cappuccinos very difficult to care for?
I'm so excited to join the community! And understand why these little guys go for like 3 figures for a colony of 10!! LOL
i have a colony of approx 25 a. vulgares that is doing really well, however i have one isopod who i have seen chasing my other pods. like the same isopod is always doing it (she is the only fully black pod i have). at first i thought it was mating behavior, but she charges at the juveniles too. just now i watched her chase a smaller pod & knock them over for a second :(((( they all have plenty of places to hang and hide, they have a protein source, im just confused as to why this one pod is so mean? i dont know if this is normal because literally none of my other pods do this!
curious what these tiny round creatures are, they dont seem to be after my springtails or isopods but want to make sure they wont cause any harm, thanks:)
Back with more Dairy Cow questions. How big are the babies? I found 2 tiny TINY white guys in my container. They could be the isopod babies, or springtail babies. Or something nasty that got in without my knowing. How big are the babies of the isopods supposed to be?
I took this silly picture of one of my Porcellio Laevis Dairy Cows taking a rest on a rock and realized after the fact he had a reflection in the plastic of the tank! So cute!! (Referenced above In title is am I man or a muppet)
I just bought these on eBay and they are supposed to be blondes? I have a starter colony of regular duckies already so if these are regular I’ll just add them to that instead of their own I just wanna make sure beforehand, also cause I bought them wanting blondes, which my assumption is they are entirely yellow, opposed to the yellow face and butt and brown/black body. Thanks in advance.
I’m going to drill a 1” hole in the side of the enclosure and two 2” holes in the lid above the dry side. The wet side is a trench filled with moss, which is the only part of the enclosure I plan to water.
