Production capacity rule doubt and asking for handgun opinions

Hey there. I've been casually training for IPSC for a little over a year now, with my 92FS.

I've been running 15rd mags (92X ones) in my rig. I do have one 18 rounder I got before knowing about the capacity limitation, usually sitting back at home. But recently, I read that you are required to load no more than 15 rounds, not explicitly indicating that your magazines should not be able to load more than 15 (p.e.: using my 18 rounder with only 15 in it). Is this true?

Aside from that, I've been getting the itch to start shooting striker-fired polymer guns. I know that they are not exactly "meta" for Production (Optics), but I still want to challenge myself to do it. So far, I've got my eyes on:

  • Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS: I know, I know, the trigger. I do love how easy is to fully disassemble and modify these things. Also, the MOS part does open the possibility of me getting into Optics at some point.
  • Walther PDP 5": Good ergos and trigger. I got to try one and it felt more snappy/flippy than equivalent guns. Otherwise nothing bad to say about it. Comes OR too.
  • CZ P-10F: Again, good ergos and trigger. Haven't had the chance to try one yet. They look pretty good. Also comes in OR.

I'd appreciate any of you giving me your 2 cents on any of these 3 guns. As a note, all these 3 guns have about the same price at my local gun store.

Glock 17 Gen5 MOS for Starter?

Hi there,

greetings from Germany. I am shooting since about 1 year with pistols and rifles on the range.
According to German law I am gonna be able to buy my own gun in a few month. I startet with shooting on fix targets and recently switched over to the IPSC range. Even though I took my time it was quite fun for me.

As my practice GUN was a Glock 19X I am now used to the System and I like the gun. I also tried a SigSauer, but my choice is the Glock 17 Gen5. My problem: Almost every Person on the range is telling me that Glock is bad choice and I will soon regret it. "Go get a CZ Shadow"

I there really something wrong with Glocks and IPSC? My primary goal is atm not driving to turnaments and so on. I just wanna have fun from time to time on the IPSC range.

Talking about Glock and IPSC Production. Is there a better Glock then the 17Gen5 MOS?

Barrel length rifle.

What is the general shortest length of Ar-barrel That would make power factor with regular 55gr or maybe even a heavier bullet?

Needing to buy equipment for Black Badge course

So i'm gonna do my black badge course, but other than the holster, I don't have any of the gear. I need a belt and mag holders x 5, but i don't know where to start. Any brands I should avoid? Anything that isn't crazy expensive but good quality? I'm located in Montreal, anywhere I should order from or stores I could check out?

Big thanks!

Question about Prod Optics

Currently shooting CO in USPSA, want to shoot an IPSC match.

Is my takedown/thumb rest legal on my gun?

Can I run my 140mm basepads and just load to 15 or do they have to be short?

Is there a weight for Prod Optics?

Are magnets allowed on the belt?

Thank you, I’ve been trying to find out information from the rulebook but would like to be sure.

This will also be an international match, going to Guatemala from the states, any insight greatly appreciated.

Anyone running a Fobus holster?

Im preparing myself to take my black badge course. My pistol is an old Ruger P85. I know its far from a competitiom gun but its what I've got. I have mags and mag holsters, but im having issue finding an approved holster for the pistol itself. I have a mini rds on my p85 so the fitted leather holster I currently have only holds the pistol with slide locked back. I see the Fobus 97, I believe is the right number, is made for the P85. And should allow room for the dot sight. Im just not sure if they are any good or Ipsc approved.

Handgun regualtions

This might be a stupid question but that's what the internet is for.

I really want to get into ipsc. I got my restricted license days after the ban occurred. Is there any ways I can bet a gun for competition? Any way around the ban. Legally obviously.

Springfield Echelon for IPSC Production Optics

Very new to the sport, and I am eyeing on getting an Echelon for EDC and competing in the said division. My questions are:

  • Why is the Echelon with threaded barrel qualified (in the list) but the regular isn't?
  • Will the non-threaded version be qualified any time in the future?

TIA for any response!!!!

New gun, but which?

I‘m in Austria, i recently got approved for 2 more semi autos, total of 4. i have an Arex Delta L i have shot in some static competitions, and recently in production in my first ipsc match.

On the range, i sometimes had the opportunity to try other peoples guns, and i must say, i like the feel of full steel. Not just because i might want to shoot ipsc with it.

So i‘ve been thinking how i want to burn my hard earned money. So far i looked at the following ones:

Beretta 92x performance:

Pros: beretta pretty. Feels nice in hand. Said to be good out of the box.

Cons: beretta expensive (1900€). Slide very hard to rack, especially since by usual overhand grip is a bit hindered by the unshrouded barrel. No conversion kits that i know of to .22lr

CZ sp01:

Pros: CZ almost as pretty. Cadet conversion kit for .22lr avaliable. Dont think i‘ll outperform the gun to justify the cost the shadow 2 (1900-2100€, depending on the alignment of the stars). many holster options. Cost lower than beretta, 1300€.

Cons: i cant seem to find any for the life of me. Shadow2s just came some in, no sp01s. Might need to wait indefinitely.

Arex alpha:

Pros: already have the Delta and love it. Cheapest (950€). Runs fine Out of the Box, they say. Feels AMAZING in my hand. Easy to find.

Cons: most complicated to get parts for. Not that many options for holsters unless you go custom from the start. Delta magazines look exactly the same, except for one indent and dont work with the alpha. I have many delta mags. No conversion kits

Tanfoglio stock 1:

Pros: also veeery pretty. Just a hair more expensive than the alpha. Sights are intuitive to me. Conversion kits to .45acp avaliable, which is cool but a little weird in comparison. Basically a CZ clone. Feels better than the CZs i handled in my hand.

Cons: .22lr conversion would be great to have a cheaper training option. Overall a little small for my hands. Getting parts has been so so in the recent past, my LGS owner told me.

I have only put a few rounds through them, and often not the exact model (most ranges here dont have loaners, and gun shops dont have ranges usually)

That’s basically what i narrowed it down to.

WWYD? Or something else entirely?

First IPSC competition over!

Oh boy. I did the safety course a few months ago, but i have had shot only static before today.

It was a lvl2 match, 12 stages over 4 hours. I shot production with my arex delta.

Goals achieved: not DQed. Probably not last! Goals not achieved: not missing some targets entirely. Completely brain farted in the second half sometimes.

Some people are absolute monsters. I mean you can watch on YouTube but it doesn’t do it justice. But it was also reassuring to see that even seasoned players sometimes fumble. Makes getting better seem a little more realistic.

Anyway. It sucks that i effectively cant train aside simple drills (no ranges that allow anything other than static pistol shooting in reach), but i’m excited to get more hours in once i move starting next year.

Just wanted to share, no big revelations for yall. Thanks!

Open Division Pistol - Canadian - using one I have.

I’m Canadian, so I have some pistols. But the government banned the purchase of new ones. Currently shoot production, but I want to get into IPSC open division. My options are as follows; Sig Sauer P320 (I can buy a 40 S&W conversion kit) Glock 21 Gen 4 .45 ACP - (I’m a lefty so less than ideal for the slide release) Colt 1911 - .45 ACP M&P 2.0 .40 S&W.

I’m looking at using one of these. I fire them all pretty well. My concern is finding ports, rails etc.. I have been having trouble finding compensators for 40 Smith & Wesson and 45 ACP I want to get all the accessories to make it a race gun, what one would provide me with the most versatility and options for making it an open division firearm? What are other people using? And any suggestions on where I can order parts from I can probably get most of them imported into Canada from the US, but it’s a pain. So ideally any suggestions for Canadian base companies would make my life easier. Also, I’m open to suggestions for sights etc

Benelli M4 competing in IPSC match

Hi, I'm currently just getting into the IPSC world. Recently used my Benelli M4 to classify the last 2 weeks.

The National Team here in Thailand suggested that I get Baretta 1301 Comp Pro instead of modifying the M4 for competition. Another reason they suggest is that I'm just 5’1

Does anyone use the M4 to compete? I do want to keep practising and competing but when I tried the Baretta I just didn't like it.

Is it worth it to modify the M4 to compete? Or this gun is not suitable for IPSC?

Thank you.

I'm selling my Stock II to use only my Sig SP2022

Hi guys, seems strange I know.

But with last entry (sig sp2022) I totally forgot my Stock II, I shoot better with my simple sp2022. I love this gun and I have a opportunity to sell my Stock II.

Its a good idea?

A question about Production guns

Hello all,

so i know there's official allowed list. That's fine and the gun is explicitly listed there as allowed. However appendix D4 and D4a have table outlining rules for the handguns in the division and it states there, the gun may not be with ported barrel. However this contradicts the explicitly allowed gun in the list.

So my question is which one is correct? The table or the list?

Thanks
