I've set up a NUC7 for a live music purpose and need it to boot to Windows 10 as fast as possible once mains power is connected. If mains is already connected and it is in standby it boots rapidly, but a "cold start" causes it to run through 2 short boot cycles (which I understand to be RAM training) before booting Windows. I don't seem to have an option in BIOS to alter this, but am a total noob. It's a NUC7i7BNB.
Can anyone help me? Thanks!
Hey so my laptop stopped charging. It would power on until the battery died. I tried two different adapters on at least five different outlets.
Someone who claims to fix laptops (though he didn’t want to fix this one) said I could possible unplug the battery and it would bypass it and power my laptop as long as it was plugged in.
It’s dumb the battery is internal. Does this sound like good advice? I have bad luck with stuff like this. Thanks
I am tempted to buy one of these and send back my Asus Rog 970 just because these are 1/2 price..
My main concern is Minis Forum tech support and warranty. I am not able to do anything myself. Has anyone been able to take these in to say a local computer shop who could deal with Parts, Software etc if a problem or would I have to rely totally on Minisforum.
I am willing to take a chance at 600 or 700 dollars for one of these things to work great for a couple of years... and would pay the money to have a local computer shop replace parts or reinstall windows, drivers etc... if this is possible
anyone take theres in for service... same can be said for the AtomMan g7 etc
I have a NUC6CAYH which I wanted to use as mini NAS system. After a few days of continuous running, all of a sudden, the system is unreachable.
After reboot, the SSD can't be found. Several reboots didn't fix this. I took the SSD out and put it into another system, where it boots up fine, all partitions and data are still there and a SMART run didn't show anything out of the ordinary. The drive was new, no more than hundred hours of usage.
I didn't (yet) investigate further.
My current plan is to reset the BIOS and try again with this SSD.
UPDATE: I tried with another SSD I had lying around. SSD was recognized, but BIOS asked if I want to save changes. VGA output unstable, changes colors sometimes. After resetting BIOS to defaults and trying to change values in BIOS, NUC freezes up within BIOS after some menu changes.
Anything I can do? Doesn't look trustworthy to me.
I was looking at this,
https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Transparent-Adjustable-Ventilated/dp/B0785GRMPG?th=1
but I don't know if it will fit.
Hello. I use an NUC8i7BEH currently as an HTPC. Works really well for local media, video calls, streaming, etc.. Win10 with tablet mode and remote control. Top cut off to replace fan with a Noctua for quietness.
Problem is it's been shutting off sporadically. It's video related. Happens 95% of time on a WhatsApp video call, 10% of the time when playing a movie. Haven't been able to find anything relevant in logs. Doesn't seem heat-related as the fan gives it a lot of airflow and the heatsink is attached properly and the problem can happen when it's just turned on and completely cold.
Any steps I can take to make it more stable? I can't see a way to change the voltages from Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.
Thanks!
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I found two Akasa aluminium chassis for Intel NUC gen 3 in the attic. Brand new never used. I'd forgotten I had them and remember now at the time planning on putting 3rd gen boards in them but those are long since obsolete. What if anything can I build in them. Anything DIY mini PC that would fit?
I still have an old 5th gen NUC 5i3RYK but the board won't fit as naturally the rear port config isn't the same. I can remove the chassis backplate wondering are their any other projects to do with these cases.

Hi
I am looking for someone who have a non booting nuc8 that i can get at low cost.. I want to drill out the casing to see if i can fit external cable on my nuc8, but want to drill 1 hole at proper position.. So i look for a defect unit that i will be able to find the perfect location needed and destroying it at same time.. hehe
let me know. I pay for the shipping of course..
Thanks
Hi everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice regarding a potential issue I'm experiencing with the ROG NUC 970 I got today. Everything was going well during setup and benchmarking until I noticed a clicking noise while running CPU multi core on Cinebench. Interestingly, this noise only happens when the device is placed vertically.
Could this be related to a fan defect? I'm puzzled because the clicking only occurs when the CPU is at full load and the fan is at maximum speed.
Has anyone experienced something similar or can offer any insights? Thanks in advance! Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/0MVW67_6apE

I'm not a beginner and I'm not the last one to do a cooling redesign for this device.
You will need:
The fact that the standard radiator there has a 35 * 35 mount and you can't buy it anywhere, which is the problem
instead, there are cheap radiators for Intel CPUs
by cutting out the top cover of the case we get access to the motherboard and crystal through the top
by gluing the components (so as not to short them with the new fan) so not aesthetically pleasing but it is better to take care of it and it will not be visible there either.
The radiator comes with a standard mount that I simply cut and it became a pressure plate. For the radiator / screws with springs help with this and fit into the standard threads along the edges on top. At the same time, the height of these screws is enough to simply turn the device over or even unscrew the drain cover and secure it with double-sided tape
the temperature has dropped - the heat package of this radiator is about 50 watts, it is very quiet and works really quietly
Don't criticize too much - but so far this is one of the simplest solutions I've seen and made while preserving the standard case (you can of course just put a tower in there, but that's not the same...)
The only question that remains is how to culturally place two boards in the case, but that's a little later, the system is working now and that's the main thing.

I own a intel NUC (made in 2019 in China) that is with Cent OS 7. I have used it for a few years as my desktop. I want to change the OS from Cent OS 7 to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. To download Ubuntu ISO package, the options that I have is desktop and server versions. In desktop version, seems like the package is AMD 64...Mine is Intel. Two questions: 1. I believe I should get the desktop download 2. will AMD architecture Ubuntu work on Intel NUC? Here is the download link I am trying to get it from https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop#how-to-install-NobleNumbatany help would be greatly appreciated
Putting together a thread for Black Friday deals on NUCs and RAM/SSDs. While Black Friday is in general a good time to buy electronics, with the prospect of tariffs coming next year, it's a good time to upgrade in general as prices for electronics will likely increase next year.
I'll update this periodically when I see deals, but I'm a bit pressed for time, so share yours in the comments.
It looks wider than the origional one (especially on the lower left corner), can I replace it?
Dose anyone know where (if at all) to get the drivers for the Hades Canyon ir receiver? As far as I can tell, intel has removed them from there website.
Hi guys I recently acquired an intel nuch10i5 that was having overheating issues.
I replaced the fan with one I bought online (had a lot of issues finding the right one) and it looks like the new one is 0.6A rather than 0.4A.
The NUC doesn't boot when the new fan is in.
Are there any easy solutions to this that aren't too expensive? Any help appreciated
As the title suggests, NUC Software Studio has been discontinued. Are there any good alternatives one might suggest? I have a NUC 13 i7 Raptor Canyon if that helps.
Thanks!
A while back I upgraded my OPNsense box (was using a 11th gen NUC) to a ASRock BOX-155H. It ran a bit warmer than I'd like. I started by making the grilles on the sides actually functional.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/asrocknuc3.jpg
Honestly feel like these should have been like this to begin with. While this made a difference, and my CPU wasn't sitting in the red as much, it wasn't the difference I was really looking for.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/asrocknuc4.jpg
That was when I came across a post from u/rosinenboden Intel Nuc Fan Mod. I figured that would definitely bring my temps down. It looked easy enough. It turned out to be quite a bit of work. It's not just modifying the heatsink. Making the fan adapter, deciding how to cool the VRMs, find new wifi antennas, because mine were absolutely in the way.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/nuccooler1.jpg
It was a pain to assemble, but it actually came together pretty well.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/nuccooler2.jpg
The fan does stick out past the cooler some. I'm using a 120mm, 5V PWM Noctua fan. Since it's not low profile like this cooler is designed for, it doesn't quite slide back all the way. Not real noticeable though.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/nuccooler3.jpg
I did make sure the adapter comes outside the case. I didn't want to have to take anything apart if I ever need to replace the fan.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/nuccooler4.jpg
It did make everything a little taller obviously. So unfortunately I had to rearrange my rack a bit. So I need to make up a few cables to neaten things up some. However for the time being everything is back together and up and running again.
https://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics2/os/nuccooler5.jpg
This absolutely brought the temps down (imagine that). It was more work then I originally though it would be. However it finally was the difference I was looking for. My only gripe is the case badge that came with the cooler is just a little too big to fit properly on the NUC. Oh well.
Hi,
When I first got my Rog Nuc 970 I had an issue where my hdmi monitor wouldn't be detected (my other 2 dp monitors were fine). The issue was resolved by booting up the PC with just the hdmi monitor connected, and for whatever reason that caused it to work.
Well around 6 months later all was going fine until 2 nights ago when I had a windows update and upon resetting the PC I had a bios message (that unfortunately I can't remember completely) asking if I wanted to reset optimal defaults I believe, which I did and since then the hdmi monitor again will not work.
I have tried updating the bios using the one click windows exe which updated fine but unfortunately didn't fix the issue. I also tried updating the graphics drivers, which also didn't work.
I'm not quite sure how to proceed other than waiting for the next windows update and praying that it somehow fixes whatever got broke.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, GFellows.
Is it worth trying to track down an Intel NUC 13 Pro over an ASUS NUC 13 Pro? Won't they be the same components?
I know I'd be dealing with ASUS support either way, but might the Intel have superior assembly, quality control?
Hi,
my Intel Serpent Canyon NUC 12 Enthusiast PC model RNUC12SNKi7200U lost video output while watching video on YouTube.
ps: Any one by any chance have the schematic or boardview for this NUC?
Thanks,
Gorast
I updated to the lates 0.73 bios and now after shutdown I have to pull the power cord. I have tried Windows 10, Windows 11, Fedora Workstation. I am trying to get back to 0.69/0.7 (uncertain which one it was). Asus doesn't offer support or downloads for a NUC this old. frankly, the computer works fine, but where I want to use it will be a real pain to cut power. Using Sleep mode is an option, but for things like reboots, I don't want to cause issues. I have run memory test, I have tried a different SATA SSD, I have restored the bios to factory defaults. I am not sure if there is an archive somewhere with the older bios files.
On a Akasa Turing case. Not sure if heat is the issue. Anyway to check log to see why it was shutdown randomly? And how do I go about doing this?

I purchased 3 new Asus NUC 14 Pros and all 3 of them are having this weird shut off issue after installing Windows 11 Pro. I have tried 3 different brand of RAM (Crucial, Vengeance, Samsung) and same issue persists. I was using Samsung 990 Pro m.2 SSDs and tried an intel SSD, same issue. I updated the BIOS using a USB and same issue. I am at a loss here. Any input or advice on what else to try? I am going to try installing Windows 10 but this seems like a hardware issue. All three devices were purchased at the same time so maybe a bad batch.
Installation completes successfully, system reboots then I get the "One moment" message then abruptly shuts off.
I recently bought my NUC8i5BEH from a electronics recycling place.
Originally, I loaded Ubuntu server 24.04.1 onto it as I wanted to use it for a docker container powerhouse (I have been using a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB for awhile).
I noticed a few problems though... originally, the place gave me a 45W power supply. I immediately thought that it was the cause of the crashes. I went back to the place and got a 65W power supply. Came home, loaded Ubuntu Server back on it, started my containers (4 at the time) and immediately started seeing the same issue. What even stood out is I wasn't running the containers at all at one point and it still crashed. This started annoying me horribly.
I ran memtest all night 3 passes, all tests (except for the experimental one), and passed flawlessly.
I am not sure what the disk drive's health is like, but it reported back on Ubuntu Desktop (booted via USB to check disk drive health) and didn't throw any errors when it came to health.
After that, I researched the issues I was having and came up with the idea of, "must be an Ubuntu issue... let's try desktop really quick to see if it is the same result". Just finished with Ubuntu desktop 24.04.1 and still having the same issue.
I did made it freeze again (on purpose this time) just so I can grab the output when it started back up again. I used journalctl -b -1 -e
to try and get the logs right on startup, this is the output below. How would I go about solving this issue?

Edit: Correction on the drive health, it reported back that everything was 'OK', not sure entirely still on SSD health
