The Intellivision is a video game console released by Mattel in 1979. The word Intellivision is a portmanteau of "intelligent television". Over 3 million Intellivision units were sold and a total of 125 games were released for the console!

Good luck.

My grandparents gave me an Intellivision for Christmas in 1980 when I was 8 years old. I loved it and my absolute favorite game ended up being Treasure of Tarmin. To this day, I'm amazed at the complexity they were able to achieve with the limited hardware. I just found this Reddit group, so I thought I would share my love for the Intellivision. Several years ago, I wanted to learn microcontroller programming and I had just started woodworking. So I combined these passions and built a handheld to play Tarmin. I only had the manual, some online level maps, and my experience with the game to go by, but I'm happy with the results!

My father bought me a version 1 console, which I beat the crap out of (if only I knew), Lock 'n' Chase was my favourite game, same with Beamrider and Astrosmash (scored 22 million in a 8 hour session), Really awesome system.
Are there any compatibility issues I should know about with an Intellivision Model I using an ECS?

I don't like that the microswitches support the D-pad.... would this design eventually break something inside? Any thoughts?
I did some searching, but haven't found anything definitive. I'm trying to see if there is a way to set up the FreeIntv RetroArch core to display the keypad with overlay on one side of the screen next to the game. Similar to how JZINTV does on the Android app, but in RetroArch with the libretro core and the actual overlay image over the keypad. I know I can use JZINTV...but I prefer to use the libretro core for the retroachievements integration. Basically like the DS emulation, but screens side by side for a widescreen device, and with RetroAchievements.
I just recently bought an Intellivision console off ebay. Was looking for one that was in good condition and the one I bought was (and it came with the tattered original box), but when inspecting it I found this decal on the bottom (there was not a shot of the bottom in the auction so I had no idea). Not sure if this is a good thing, bad thing or it just means it was not used very much. By the looks of it, it definitely was not used a whole lot.
I played many hours of Intellivision when I was a kid. Are there any ports to Windows?
If you are unfamiliar with Backbit it's a really fantastic multicart that can be used with many consoles and computers. I use it for four devices intellivision, colecovision, atari 2600 and the atari 800xl.
I recently replaced my control pad with a stick, and I love it! Are there are any upgrades for the side buttons? I couldn't find anything online, but I thought there could be some ideas here.
Am I alone in finding these side buttons a little uncomfortable? Perhaps it is just my system. Any proposed solutions?
EDIT: I have a model one. Is there space for spring buttons in there?
Definitely one of my favorites still and so fun to have access to it in this way. 🥂
How do we reset the game after we complete all the rounds? It just seems to sit there and reset doesn’t do anything
I'm eyeing a few Intellivision consoles on eBay right now. (Unless someone here has one to sell in mint condition).
I discovered this in the mid 90’s and it has always stuck with me.
I can’t remember which difficulty I chose, but I decided to map out the top level for who knows what reason. When I did, the layouts of the rooms spelled out on a grid “ERIC + TOM”
Or Tom + Eric. It’s been nearly 30 years since I did it.

D&D Quest is listed between Cloudy Mountain and Treasure of Tarmin.
I don't remember this game, what is it?
Hi guys, I’ve just come across some stuff clearing out and I’ve found the main console, computer adapter, computer keyboard and the piano/ music synthesiser.
I’m clueless to all this and was wondering if anyone knows how much it would all be worth need to make space in the attic, still needs to be checked if it works but everything is there cables wise and got around 30-40 games.
Any help is much appreciated 🫡
I was changing caps on the board and noticed the ribbon cable is about disintegrated. Can this be replaced by about anything or does it need a certain gauge wire? Thanks!
Definitely enjoyed myself. Even as a one player game it's still fun and relaxing. 🥂
It occurs to me that a faithful port of Sea Battle with online matchmaking would still be fun as hell in 2024.
Am I alone on this?
Hi everyone.
I've recently come into possession of a Intellivision Model 1 Master Component, and I was told it worked perfectly only to find out both controllers have issues when playing games.
Controller 1's right side fire buttons feel strange, with no tactile feedback like the left side fire buttons. Controller 1's keypad keys "3", "9", and ENTER all only sporadically work, sometimes choosing not to work (which is more often than you think)
Controller 2 has a sticky "4" key that requires pressure elsewhere to unstick. Super annoying. Everything else about the console works fine. I am lead to believe the "testing" was likely done with a disc-only game with very minimal keypad input. The seller has not budged in helping me out despite claiming that they "go out of their way to make customers satisfied" (Side note: They just got back to me and said they tested the console with "Asteroids" -- I hope this guy means Astrosmash otherwise I think he might be on something.)
I've already ruled out giving the seller a chance. It already feels like trying to argue with a brick wall. EDIT: After a bit of a back and forth, they're willing to take it back for me, but I want to give it a few days and see if there's any advice or services here that will make my purchase worthwhile. EDIT 2: I'm now convinced it was likely messed up in shipping and not the seller's fault.
Now, my question is: Does anyone out there know of any repair services out there within or close to Ohio that are willing to do this? I understand this is a niche console so the chances that these exist are low but I really don't want to risk trying to do this myself when the screws in the controllers are rusty and will likely strip with even the smallest bit of pressure from a screwdriver. If nothing, then any course of action I should take instead?
EDIT: Semi-resolved. Cleaned the P1 controller. Now that one works great, just needed a cleaning. P2 controller is a different story though. Top left screw still giving some issues and I believe it's stripped. Don't know how to deal with that, as I obviously can't open it further. Don't know if it's still salvageable or if it's too far gone. As long as the P1 controller works I'll be largely happy -- though it would be great to fix the little issue the P2 controller has too.
This unit looks like it worked, it came with 5 games and overlays, voice module, but I don't see anything on my newish/oldish CRT TV set. Do the Game/TV switches that connect to the cable input of the TV go bad? Maybe the TV is too new? I don't even get a black screen, just rice and raisins, and I have tried both Channel 3 and 4 and found the switch on the bottom of the Intellivision. I opened it up and tested the power supply, which does get normal warm when on, and 3 voltages out of the supply, and then the 5 voltages out of the DC board seem to be pretty close to correct. I'm wondering if it is as simple as the CRT TV being too new, it doesn't have antenna terminals, just coax and a composite video in and mono audio. I'm going to try and dig out my old Colecovision and see if that works on this TV that I had picked up from a neighbor's curb a decade ago.
Is there any way to hook up an old intellivision to a roku smart tv without a vcr
