I keep failing at the third level of improv training. I’ve failed twice now. funny thing is the classes have been a great experience - I get a long with everyone including the instructor. I’m always agonising over the right move to make etc is it safe to say now that improv just is not for me?

Improvised Murder Show

NYC! Come out to see "The Murderer Did It!" an improvised whodunit in the style of the movies Clue and Knives out.

We create characters ahead of the show and have a guest host (this one will be Don Chang from UCB and Asian AF) sit in with us who we murder within the first half of the show. We all have to figure out who did it? And since it's improvised, we honestly won't know until the very end.

Our next show is 10/19 at the Magnet Theater

UFOLOGISTS - British comedy film now available on Amazon Prime

Comedy fans, check out this hilarious, largely improvised, British mockumentary 😄

It takes a look at the comedy involved in our everlasting search for alien life. 👽

Available now on Amazon Prime, where Prime members can watch for free! (Territories: UK, US, Canada & Australia)

Synopsis:

The truth is out there! Well, in Cornwall anyway!

Television journalist Ellie Thornton spends time in the county of Cornwall reporting and following the lives of a Cornish UFO investigation team, as they explore the beautiful, rugged and unseen Cornish countryside, in an unalienable desire to seek out extra-terrestrial activity. A weirder unlikely group you couldn't expect to meet. Four hapless but very likeable individuals live out their own fragile existence in this world, whilst searching for life from another.

Choking

Not literally, but completely going blank in the moment and then coming up with great, witty, genius quips, one-liners, and scenarios after the fact.

It's infuriating that I miss so many great opportunities for humor and just having fun with people because I get stuck in my head and start over analyzing (ADHD?) instead of riffing.

As soon as a situation ends and the moment is gone, I start coming up with material and then I'm pathetically riffing to myself and flagellating in my vehicle later.

Any tips on shifting/anchoring into a riff mindset when put on the spot? Does this "perfect comeback in hindsight" phase wane over time?

Anyone interested in learning improv and sketch comedy in Bengaluru?

Hi, I was thinking of learning improv and trying my hand at writing sketch comedy. I live in Bengaluru.

I am a complete beginner and I have almost no idea how I'll start.

I want to:

  1. Connect with people who would be interested in learning and trying these things together who also live in Bangalore.
  2. Get resources and ideas on where and how I can start. If there are workshops or classes in Bangalore or even online, that would be great.

Please DM or comment if you're interested.

TIA

How do you guys deal with deep embarrassment?

Okay, so I've been taking improv classes for quite some time to work on my confidence, quick thinking, acting skills, and of course, my ability to not take myself to seriously and embrace failure - as, you know, there's no preparation involved in improv and sometimes you're bound to fail!

However, the people in my new batch are extremely good at their improvisational skills, and sometimes, I find myself to be worse than mediocre amongst them.

I push myself to go to these classes so I can finally get better, and feel more confident. But, that's in vain as I often end up really embarrassed, and feeling inadequate. I cannot help but compare myself to others, and feel bad about my shortcomings.

Can anyone relate?
