What would the best blank map of North America I can use for a wikibox? One with borders I can easily modify in MS Paint (cringe, I know. But It's easier for me)?
If Stephen Douglas, John C. Breckinridge and John Bell, all somehow stayed united in order to prevent a Lincoln presidency, and retained all there voters, they would win 60.34% of the Popular vote to Lincolns 39.65%. In spite of this they would love the electoral college 134-169.
If this happened when the south secedes, Lincoln would have almost no legitimacy after losing the popular vote by 20, and the war effort would almost certainly collapse. I think people would also be more sympathetic to the South in this timeline because they won ‘democratically’. The accusation of Lincoln being a tyrant would hold more sway.
During her presidency, Sarah Palin adopted protectionist tariffs, began the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico, and refused to aid Pakistan when India invaded it.
As such, the war ended in an Indian victory in May 2023, and the annexation of all of Kashmir. India's international status was bolstered by its victory.
As the incumbent, Palin sailed through the republican primaries with no meaningful opposition. Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, defeated Doug Ford – his Ontario counterpart – as well as Amy Klobuchar and Cory Booker to win the Democratic nomination. Newsom ran on abortion and foreign policy, while Palin accused Democrats of planning to handcuff the police, open America's borders, and impose a socialist agenda upon the country.
Most polls showed Newsom winning by varying margins, but given her appeal to Middle America, Palin managed to pull off an upset, continuing the Republican dominance¹ of US politics.
