Task 1 writing feedback

This time I didn’t overwrite I think (173 words) and I tried to concentrate on the main highlights of this table

This table illustrates the different kind of activities unemployed men and women engage in throughout the day by proportion, over the last year and different activities. It is noticeable that drinking is the least activity both gender do during the day unlike others like shopping which both parties do much more.

it is quite clear that men engage more in physically demanding tasks like gardening to the point that women only engage in it about 2% of the time. On the other hand, women tend to do almost the double amount of housework men do which is also about half the women. It can be said also that almost all employed women aren't physically active.

Both genders don't watch much TV in the morning unlike the afternoon. It's interesting to see that none likes staying at bed mid-day but could do other activities like shopping, reading or visiting friends and relatives.

it's useful to note that each gender have different interests to do in free time except job hunting which they both almost equally do.

Test Result Form - how long does it take?

Hello,

How long does it take to receive the TRF for a computer based IELTS exam. I have to send results to an organization on the 15th of May, and will be writing the exam on the 6th of May.

The website claims that results are available 3-5 days after the exam. Is the TRF available at the same time? Or does it take longer? If yes, how long does it usually take?

I fear that I might not get the result in time, and fuck up my opportunity! Someone help me out.

I got my results today!

I took my test on the 13th April & I was super scared. The actual test is much easier than the mock tests I practiced with. Good luck for everyone who recently took the exam, I'm sure you guys did great!! In total I practiced about 2 weeks before the test but watched a lot of videos by IELTS Advantage, which were incredibly helpful!

My writing topic felt weird

It was something about the use of Robots in daily life and work, with examples

is it a positive thing or a negative thing?

I was like we don't use robots man what the hell, am I misunderstanding something?

how would you have tackled this?

My IELTS Experience and Result

I was sent the email with my results within 48 hours of the test (around 35 hours later) surprisingly. Maybe because it was the computer test? Regardless, I am very content with it given my prep time, and I more or less expected the same numbers.

https://i.imgur.com/hw2sLud.png

LRW was at 9:30 AM, ending around 12:15 PM. Speaking was at 4 PM that same day, it was a pain waiting for the speaking appointment. If the venue wasn't located on a nice and bustling downtown TO street with a ton of stuff to do around, I would've either gone crazy or would have had to commute further away to find something to do.

Overall, I gave myself around 5 hours to prep. 2 hours to solve two sets of Reading and Writing practice sessions on the britishcouncil.org website, and 3-4 hours to watch videos online.

Listening: I did not prep for this other than the two 40-minute timed practice sessions, which were pretty much identical to the actual test experience. Make sure to not get distracted, as missing even one question can quickly make you lose your flow/track causing panic.

Reading: I followed this video's strategy (Video by IELTS Juva):

Strategy and Tips - IELTS Juva | Practice Test with Application - IELTS Juva

This method worked perfectly. I ended the two 60-minute online practice sessions and the actual test section with 25-30 minutes to spare, which I used to carefully re-examine everything I entered for spelling errors and misunderstood-meaning errors.

Writing: The rest of my time before the test was spent watching videos for this section:

The videos below are by IELTS Advantage. The advice felt very sound, clear, and meaningful, so I continued watching his videos after first coming across his channel on YT. Highly recommended.

Before I started typing things out, I used the paper and pen they provided to jot down the skeletal structure of my response, from intro to conclusion, and what ideas each para involved, introduced, and expanded on. I couldn't follow some of the advice, however, and ended up writing far too much. a little more than double the word count for each task. I couldn't go back to check for spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, and didn't have time to cut parts that went too far off relevancy, definitely got some score deducted for it.

Speaking: I had a lot of time during the commute (more than an hour) and after my LRW, so I picked some videos by IELTS Advantage:

I believe I did the first half of the test (before they ask you to read a prompt on a paper, take notes, and then speak uninterrupted for a few minutes) really well. Right as I reached that aforementioned point, I was even expecting an 8 or above. After reading the prompt, however, I couldn't think of much to talk about lmao. I tried to note down some random ideas, but it just wasn't enough. I fumbled the rest past this point extremely hard. I even repeated the question to myself in the middle of my response lol. The confidence that I had displayed so far pretty much disappeared as I sat there appearing clueless. I was using a lot of "uhms" at this point too, and the grammar degraded while I tried to stitch together random thoughts on the fly. Some of the stuff I said was pretty irrelevant too.

I believe this wouldn't have been an issue if I hadn't forced myself to answer something "good", and just casually mentioned that the prompt (which was about a person dear to you outside your family, and many other follow-up questions on it) wasn't something I had too much speak on, perhaps even why that was the case. After all, the test isn't trying to gauge what kind of stories you can come up with and how creative your responses are, but instead how you construct and deliver your responses. If I had to give the "me" of the past any advice, I'd say just answer naturally and comfortably, making up stuff for responses is totally fine, but if you have to fabricate the entire response and make up stuff for multiple follow-up questions, just answer honestly how you feel about the question instead, and why you feel like that. I am happy though, I expected a 7.0 after what I had just experienced.

Feel free to ask anything about the experience, the venue, the procedures, or the exam itself.

Writing task 2 . What band would you rate?

Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important enviromental problems.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Certain individuals believe that the main ecological issue of our period is the subversive action against flora and fauna. Opponents argue that there are much more significant environmental issues. I think humans often act opposed to nature . Because of financial benefit . Money and global warming are primary resons of detrimental impact on environment.

In modern world, people do not need to hunt for a prey in order to get food. We buy groceries and meal for cash . Money always plays a crucial role in our society and influence nature .It indicates social hierarchy and value for society . However, money sometimes has an adverse impact on plants and animals . Hunting is one of the human action against nature because some idividuals find particular species value for market . For example, there was species of bird (Dodo) which died out more than century ago because of hunting.

On in other hand, some people begin to worry about the global warming that influnces evryone on Earth. The tempreture of our planet is rising evry year. Dispite of the risk of pullution, most factories emits toxic substances into air and pollute environment . It cause an averse impact on nature. The main step of solving environmental problem is to reduce the emission of carbon-dioxide and establish green power in order to halt pollution of planet. Some counties use green power to get electricity. For instance, there are solar batteries set up on the rooftops in Australia.Furthermore, these batteries facilitate the creation of electricity in each suburban house.

In conclusion, people pollute and act harmful twards environment. Money and global warming are main reasons of detrimental impact on environment. Nevertheless, people should change their attitude to nature and proceed to help our planet. ( 289 words )

I took the exam on Tuesday, April 23rd and just received my results. I expected to score lower on the speaking section, so I'm happy with that. Overall, I would say that the actual exam was much easier than the mock tests.

The diagram reveals how the floor plan of public library now differs from how it looked 20 years ago.

Overall, most of rooms and halls were renovated, expanded or removed. However, one place remained intact it’s an entrance. It’s clear that with the advent of the time more ways have emerged, hence, a number of new features such as advanced self-service machines appeared in the nowadays library.

From diagram, it’s evident that chamber for CDs, video and computer rooms was moved on the occupation of Reading room, its location was taken by rooms with Storytelling events and some Children’s fiction books. Moreover, a couple of sofas were added there. The tables and chairs settled in the center of the library were removed at all. However, information desk surrounded with Adult fiction books and self-service machines was added in the right side of the library. Children’s room, in turn, was turned into Lecture room, probably, for sake of children’s literacy. And Enquiry desk was changed by Cafe. As well as adult fiction books were moved on the tight side of the library and all reference books took its place.

---------

With the advent of time a number of people from suburbs have moved to cities, hence, the population of countryside has decreased significantly. Due to this immigration some questions are arose and the most important to answer whether this moving is positive or negative factor.

On the one hand, it’s obvious that the more people leave suburbs the less expenses the local government can spend. Moreover, the government can make use of it in terms of passive income, because in a number of countries, it’s available to request material support from cities which has more than 5% population born in current area. Consequently both people coming to cities and governments will get their benefits. For example, my grandpa lived in the suburb almost all his childhood, but then the war broke out and the most part of the population had to move in the nearest town. It wasn’t pretty big, hence, population grew significantly and it let the suburb’s government get some benefits out of it.

On the other hand, if a huge flow of people go off, then locals will be exposed by a lack of workforce. Furthermore, it can influence on future crops and products. Consequently, the nearest town won’t get supplies of must-have products from suburbs and villages that can lead to a hunger.

For instance, my grandmother used to live in the village. However, once a lot people left it, hence, the youth had to collect crops, but they didn’t manage though. It resulted in a lack of resources, hence this village had to be disbanded.

To summary, in my opinion, the drawback of this development outweighs the benefits. Because I suppose that the nearest suburbs and villages can influence on the products in cities shops, hence, appropriate supplies should be always on time. And workers should be available for it.

Can someone rate this task 1 writing

This graph illustrates the illiteracy rates for different regions, with each one divided by gender. it shows the proportion of illiteracy for both males and females. We have 6 different regions (Developed Countries, Latin American/Caribbean, East Asia/Oceania, Sub-Saharan Africa, Arab States, South Asia).

Initially, it's clear that developed countries have the least proportion of illiteracy for both males and females with a percentage no greater than 4% for both genders. Radically, we see South Asia having a tremendously high percentage of illiteracy for both males and females. Males in South Asia have about 35% illiteracy rate while females have almost the double with 55% rate.

Both Arab States and Sub-Saharan Africa have a rates close to South Asia and higher than the rest of the regions by a good difference. As Arab States have about 29% illiteracy rate for males and about 52% for females. Yet Sub-Saharan Africa have a bit higher male illiteracy rate than the Arab States with a 32% and a lower rate for females with about 48%.

Latin American and East Asia have a low illiteracy rate for both genders as Latin American have a rate between 10% and 15% for both genders while East Asia has 20% rate for females and about just 8% for males.

We have 2 regions that could be said that the majority of their females are illiteral ( Arab States, South Asia) and 2 other regions that have a very narrow difference between male and female illiteracy rates and low percentage at that (developed countries, Latin American).

Does my task 1 response deserve 9 band?

The diagram illustrates the process that is used to manufacture bricks for the building industry.

https://preview.redd.it/8x1nz1ko7lwc1.jpg?width=567&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80b33648ed0e106d92b6272ed9ee2483ffc2ee02

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagram illustrates the step-by-step process involved in the manufacture of bricks for the construction industry. The process begins with excavating clay from the ground using a digger. The clay is then mixed with sand and water, forming a malleable mixture that is passed through a metal grid and subsequently rolled into a mould to shape individual bricks.

The moulded bricks then undergo a drying and firing process in kilns. The firing stage is divided into three phases - an initial high-temperature phase at 870°C to 1300°C lasting 48 to 72 hours, a moderate-temperature phase at 200°C to 980°C, and a final drying phase in an oven for 24 to 48 hours.

After the firing process, the finished bricks are packaged and loaded onto trucks for delivery to construction sites or retailers.

The manufacturing process involves a combination of mechanical processes, such as digging, mixing, moulding, and packaging, as well as thermal processes, including drying and firing at various temperature ranges and durations to achieve the desired strength and durability of the bricks.

Overall, the diagram provides a comprehensive overview of the various stages involved in transforming raw clay into high-quality bricks suitable for use in the building industry.

Got My Result Yesterday!

I had one month preparation, learning for 1-2 hours daily (albeit inconsistency here and there). My resource:

  • Youtube ieltsadvantage, the IELTS 2024 full course video specifically. I only watched the writing and speaking part.

  • The Official Cambridge Guide to IELTS

During speaking test, I made an embarassing mistake. I left the room after Part 2. The examiner chased me and said "Miss, the exam hasn't finished. You can not escape yet.". My nervous system 😣

One thing I regret is not having a good sleep the night before. I had to waste around 5 minutes to wash my face during writing test due to sleepiness.

Advice needed: Take computer based exam or take paper but with extra hours

I took my IELTS last week and I was given an accommodation because of my ADHD. Basically the listening test was played more than once and I was given 15 minutes more in reading and writing. My speaking was provided like how normal people would take it.

Generally I was okay. Reading exam was okay, the listening exam accommodation was very helpful because listening was a little hard for me to focus on. However, despite the 75 minutes in writing exam, I was not able to finish the task 1.

I am pretty sure I will get my desired scores in LRS, but my writing will be almost impossible ( my target is 7).

So apparently, one skill exam is not possible in paper exam. So i need to tale the exam again and wait for 6 weeks. Or another option is just take the computer based and take it as normal. Do you guys think given that I am okay with reading and speaking and if I push myself more in writing and listening, taking the computer based is better?
