Hi, give me some advice on how I can focus and finally start preparing for IELTS, I plan to take it in August, at the same time I need to prepare for SAT. Give me some advice on preparation and is it possible to prepare for both of these tests at the same time. And I would like to find a partner to prepare for these tests, so that both of us are motivated, since I need to pass 8.0/1500
Hii guys, I gave my exam on 1/12/24 and received them in less than 24 hours.
The writing result took me by surprise because I took my sweet time perfecting part 2 and failed to complete task 1
I know I fumbled the speaking test because my dentist was not careful and accidentally damaged my lingual nerve while extracting my wisdom teeth. It's gonna take a couple of months to gain complete sensation on the right side of my tongue.
I kinda knew this would happen because I'm a non native speaker and I had limited control over my tongue. Overall I'm happy, because I got the score I wanted.
I was so stressed that I won't score above 7 for writing. I'm honestly wondering though, why is it so tough to get a higher score for the writing component? 🤔
I attempted my exam on 26th November and we were informed that the results should visible online within 1-5 calendar days. However, I still haven't received anything in mail nor I can see it online. It has been 6 days. I tried contacting test centre via emails and calls but no one responds.
What should I do?
So i was doing the IELTS Online test and my mouse died because i was running out of battery. The battery actually turned on and off so i tried logging in multiple times but Inspera browser detected it as a change in the computer.
I was still doing a desk check then, so the listening, reading and writing test have not started yet. Then after the multiple logging out happened the instructor told me to ask the test portal if i should continue or not. But after the test portal replied my test was already locked from 5 minutes not logging in. They then offered for reschedule but instead they said that i was permanently banned from IELTS because of malpractice a week later.
Does anyone know what should i do? I do not know how to prove this situation either for my appeal. I really do not know what to do, i mean i already took ielts computer test 2 years ago and i already got 7.5 for my masters degree, and this time its just to renew it for my phd application, and then this happened. Now i am really lost :(
Any suggestion would be really appreciate it. Thanks.
Hi, everyone. Hope you have a amazing day! As the title told, I want to figure out which is suitable for me to prove my English capability. Here are some information about me: I am a Chinese native speaker; I am good at grammar, but poor at listening; Also I do not well at speaking because of my bad listening. hope you could give me some advise.
I messed up really bad in speaking, wasn't comfortable with the video conference test. I just gave random answers lol. Believe i could've got 8 for speaking if not for my nervousness. Hope this meets the requirements for most PhD applications.
Took 1 week of intense preparation.Did not worry much. Also keep in mind it's not a General Knowledge test, it's an English test, just be fluent and speak what you're confident in
I just needed an overall score of 5 for my requirements 🙏 here are my scores 😍
Hi all, I am planning my IELTS test in two weeks time. I just saw the pattern of the exam, and it looks relatively straightforward. I want to try aim for the highest score possible. In this case, it's 9.
I am looking for guidance on how to assess what level I am currently at, and prepare accordingly. Any resources or must haves for preparation will also be appreciated.
kinda dissapointed with 5.5 on writing mock despite having a 7.0 overall; so i tried changing the way i build some sentences. my test is on 3rd of december, basically tomorrow
In many countries of the world, rural people are choosing to leave their home and move to a city. With this happening, the population in the countryside is decreasing. However, there might be some positive sides to it. As you probably understood, this essay will be about proving the social factors being improved due to urbanisation.
First, rural people are not as intelligent, compared to those living in cities. Moreover, most of them had less time in education, with some having only 4 schooling years. That means moving to a city is a decent way of obtaining more opportunities, not only limited to children. For example, adults could apply to universities, or provide a better education for their child. Finally, this will increase the per cent of well-educated people in the world, giving the world more experts in various works.
Secondly, humans should view the decreasing population in the countryside only as a temporary problem. The process of urbanisation does, indeed seems like a reasonable worry, with some rural areas being abandoned completely. However, rural people tend to miss their home after time, so an appropriate amount of them will come back eventually, now with a decent education and skills that can be put in use. This will have an impact on the technologies used in the countryside areas, changing the way rural people live.
Finally, I can assume that this is a positive development of social factors, that produces more intelligent people, but we should still wait for the urbanisation process to be finally on its peak, only then we can make statements, not assumptions.
Hello everyone. I'm looking to give my computer-delivered IELTS academic exam in February of 2025. Recently have been hearing that a few test venues have bad equipment hence I wanted to ask which exam center might be the best. Lemme know your opinions on which ones to go for and which ones to avoid.
Hi team, I have paid for my IELTS test through British council and also the payment was successfully processed. Although it was deducted from my account BC has not sent me any confirmation email yet it’s been few hours since the payment. Also there is no contact number for British council New Zealand. Please advise me on what to do.
I've never seen such sort of result. The highest one I remember is 8.5. Does anyone have a chance to achieve that maximum score? And if yes, then what they need to do? What distinguishes, for example, a band 7 student from a band 8 student, and 8 from 9? Is it true that for getting a higher score BPs must contain more than 1 main point?
If I take the IELTS test in February and admissions begin in September. Can I send scores directly to universities after 5-6 months have passed?
I was going through the question types for IELTS Academic on the IDP website and noticed something interesting.
When I practice with sample questions, they’re not always in order—like, the answer to the third question might show up in the first paragraph, especially for multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
But IDP specifically says that for MCQs, "The questions are presented in the same order as the information in the reading text. So, the answer to the first multiple-choice question will be located in the text before the answer to the second multiple-choice question, and so on."

Also, is it possible for two MCQs in the same passage to have the same answer? For example, could both Question 1 and Question 2 have "A" as the correct answer?
Can someone please help me out?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently preparing for the IELTS, and I’m struggling with strategies for both Writing and Listening. I would love to hear your tips or personal strategies!
For Writing Task 1, I’m having trouble with grouping information. Sometimes it’s hard for me to figure out what aspects to focus on, especially when the trends or differences aren’t obvious. For example, if there’s no clear standout feature, I don’t know how to approach the grouping. How do you decide what to focus on? Do you have a specific method or structure you follow?
For Task 2, I’m confused about how to develop my ideas. Should I always include examples of my main idea, or are there other ways to expand? Also, what’s the most important part of the essay? I feel like I’m missing something fundamental about how to structure my argument.
In the Listening section, I keep zoning out. Even though my English level is C1, I find myself overthinking whether my previous answer was correct, which causes me to miss the next question. This overthinking really messes with my flow and stresses me out. Do you have any tips or tricks for staying focused and not losing track during the Listening part?
Any advice would be really appreciated! Thank you so much in advance for your help. 😊
This is my result after a week of prep. I was not satisfied with my performance but i think it came out well after-all. Thanks everyone for the tips and tricks.
I passed the ielts after struggling for almost 3 months,I’ve read many preparation tips from people in this community, and they were very helpful, and I really appreciate that .
I’m happy with my score since my dream school only requires a 7 overall.
You can feel free to ask me for ielts tips ! I don’t use this language very often, basically at school ,so don’t judge me if it’s too low for you .
After writing my first task 1 report, i realized my vocabulary is not enough for the task. And no im not talking about the high band vocabulary or some magic words. I was repetitive and it was obvious. What are your recommendations? (Some good and useful words i can describe the increases and stuff.)
I thought I did well and was expecting a 7
Can we add fake surveys to give relevant examples in writing task 2? For example: “ According to a recent survey done by the Harvard University…..”
I thought I did really badly in writing because I was running out of time and didn't have time to revise anything + with speaking I totally forgot alllll of my strategies and was just very spontaneous. However, I'm overjoyed with my results!
So I have my Ielts on computer in less than 12 hours. So any last moment advice as I struggle a lot on Task 1 of Writing part!? Other asvice would be of great help as well!!
As the internet becomes more popular, newspapers are becoming a thing of the past. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience. Write at least 250 words. —
As technology evolves, more and more people are becoming less accustomed to reading newspapers and are turning away from print media. I would agree with this and argue that most people consider the internet as their main source of information, as it is more accessible and interactive than newspapers.
First of all, the internet is a vast tool, providing its users with endless amounts of information at any given time. People can gain immediate access to multiple sources and can actively choose the ones they would prefer to read from. For instance, a bachelor student writing a paper will choose to look through credible articles instead of online magazines. However, newspapers do not present a wide range of information, as the content provided is limited and centered around more specific subjects. As a result, this inclines the readers to resort to more convenient means, such as the net.
Furthermore, the content that can be found on the web is constantly being renewed, corrected, and updated, managing to keep people up to date at all times. Even at unconventional times, such as nighttime, people have access to the most recent news from across the globe and can even engage with users from different countries. For example, there are multiple forums designated for people to get in touch and exchange information. By contrast, newspapers are not constantly available to readers and may take longer to be updated, as most of them tend to be released weekly, or even monthly. In addition to this, newspapers are non-interactive, making the reading experience feel dull and one-sided.
In conclusion, I believe that people have resorted to online sources of information, turning their backs on printed news. The fact that online information is taking over hints at the possible end of traditional newspapers.
Is there a way to get feedback on writing and speaking tests from an AI other than ChatGPT because trying to mark my performance from a model answer doesn't work for me(free options only)
I’m planning to pursue a postgraduate degree in the UK and need to take the IELTS exam. However, I’m confused about which version to choose: IELTS on computer or computer-delivered IELTS for UKVI. Since I might also apply to universities in other countries, which one would be the best option for me?
Gave Exam With 4 days Of Preparation. I was expecting good in reading but not sure where it went wrong . I had panic attack while giving last part that pretty much explains speaking score . I'm thinking of Retake Of Whole Test Once Again . What Do U Guys Recommend
