Is it just me or it wasn't updated since 2019?
Is the project dead?

I'm new to IceCat (escaping from Firefox) , but why is IceCat limited to extensions ? I would really like if I had Cisco Web-ex extension found on Firefox .
Hello, I just installed and extracted http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/60.7.0/icecat-60.7.0.en-US.gnulinux-x86_64.tar.bz2 and it's stuck in the home directory, I can use it by running ./icecat
and ./icecat-bin
.
I'm trying to figure out how to make it so that none of the files related to icecat are in the home directory and so that icecat shows up in the applications menu so I don't have to run it through command line every time I want to run it.
Icecat 78 is working fine on parabola linux , all the extensions are supported and are wworking fine too ;-)
After updating to the icecat-78.8.0-1
version, whenever I go to a tab which wants to play sound the tab crashes, anyone has any idea why that might happen? I've rebuilt 3 times or so already and still persists. I am using arch if anyone wants to know and if it's relevant.
I just uninstalled Chromium and installed GNU IceCat 78.6.1esr on Void Linux instead.
But ... I am having some problems:
1- The language pack: icecat-i18n-en-ES is installed but not executed and in the "preferences" section when trying to add other languages for the menus, messages and notifications; throws me the message:
"IceCat can’t update your languages right now. Check that you are connected to the internet or try again".
But the internet connection is fine ...
2- The sound works well on Youtube and VLC; but it sounds distorted on Twitter videos.
I would appreciate any help on these issues!
There is a link that should explain the motivation behind this decision, but it leads to a deleted page.
Just wondering if there is an extension or any other way to acheive a full dark mode in IceCat. Something like "dark background light text" in Firefox. The lack of support for something like this is the only thing truly keeping me from switching.
Not sure if relevant, but I'm using Gentoo/Artix.
The current one's version is 60.7,while the latest firefox-esr version is 78.6.
I can't live without my ad blocker. Can someone link to spyblock or ublock for Icecat android? Can't find it anywhere.

Hello guys,
I have compiled the latest version of icecat browser which was bumped to the master branch - 78.4.0 and receive the "Installation aborted because the add-on appears to be corrupt." whilst to try to install multi-account containers or temporary containers add-ons from mozilla AMO site.
Is there a possibility to install these add-ons?
Thanks
I've been trying to use this windows 64 release
https://github.com/muslayev/icecat-win64
that seems to be maintained.
The problem is icecat (or any post 57 ff implementation) won't use older ff addons like password exporter but icecat also doesn't include lockwise. Presumably for a reason but that leaves me in the lurch password wise.
Anyone know how to get around this?
I’ve been asking questions specific to each browser community and was curious as to why you all use Icecat!
PS hope this subreddit community grows in time!
Thank you!
Hello!
GNU IceCat has preinstalled extensions that replaces other webpages' (such as Google Drive, though THAT extension does not seem to work) JavaScript which has non-free license and are non-trivial.
Is there any similar extension made for GNU IceCat that has it's source code downloadable?
GitHub would be a pretty user-friendly webpage to download it from, so if it has a GitHub repository, please post the link.
I also have something out-of-topic to say; I don't seem to find the subreddit's rules.
In your IceCat user folder (in %AppData% in windows and .mozilla on Linux) create a new subfolder called chrome, Inside of chrome create a new text document called userContent.css (case sensitive) and paste in this code.
You're welcome
x-post from the youtube sub: I just switched to icecat which is a fork of firefox that is supposed to be faster and less bloated.... it's great so far untill I get to watching a youtube video and the comments won't load. :( anyone else on this browser have that issue? I'd hate to have to use another browser just for youtube comments. This happens on a fresh profile as well.
This is a x-post from /r/techsupport.
OS: Windows 8.1
Browsers: Firefox 43.04 and IceCat 38.5.2 (GNU version of Firefox)
Add-on: Password Exporter 1.3.1.1
I installed Password Exporter on both Firefox and IceCat and used it to export logins/passwords from Firefox to IceCat. It worked but the logins/passwords are invisible and undeletable in the Security tab of IceCat's preferences dialogue.
I also tried copying/pasting the following files from the Firefox profile folder to the IceCat profile folder but got the same issue.
key3.db
signons.sqlite
logins.json
Any advice? Thanks very much.
