I’m Nir Kaissar, a money columnist for Bloomberg Opinion who hosts a new finance series called Do The Math, where I dig into data to provide clarity to some of life’s biggest questions.
The US economy is doing great by all traditional measures. So why aren’t Americans? Tens of millions of people who work full-time in the US don’t bring home a living wage. There’s a reason for that — and a way to help solve it.
In my latest video I break down wages and company profits to help explain Americans’ frustration with the economy. Ask me anything about this topic, or my other videos that you can find here!

**THIS AMA WILL START TUESDAY, MAY 14: 11AM ET**
EDIT: That's all the time we have for today. Thank you so much to everyone for your questions!
Hi Reddit! I’m Luke Winkie (here's some proof), the Slate staff writer behind the column Human Guinea Pig, in which I subject myself to various experiences and indignities in the name of journalism. During my tenure, I’ve done a consultation with a plastic surgeon, staged a Christian Girl Autumn photoshoot, and spent an evening dressed like Mario in Times Square. Most recently, I booked myself on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas featuring a much-anticipated Creed revival concert to learn how the most hated band of the 1990s became cool.
I’m happy to answer questions about how me and my editor get the ideas for these columns, share some behind-the-scenes details, and talk about what I’ve learned about myself in the process. Whatever’s on your mind!
I’ll be around to answer your questions from 1-2 p.m. ET on Monday, May 13 and obviously follow u/slate on Reddit!
In the meantime, here are some hits from Human Guinea Pig:
I Visited a Plastic Surgeon as a 32-Year-Old Man. I’ll Never Forget What She Said About My Eyes.
I Tried to Avoid Women Like Mike Pence Does for a Week. I Made Some Ghastly Discoveries.
I Went to Vermont Armed With a Dark Mission. It Involved Orange Leaves and Christian Girls.
I Spent an Evening Dressed as a Life-Sized Mario in Times Square. I Was Not Prepared.
The Most Hated Band in Recent History Is Suddenly Beloved—and Even Cool. What Happened?

HI, my name is Joe Hall, and I have a rare brittle bone disorder called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) which causes my bones to fracture easily, and be deformed.
OI is typically broken into 8 different types based on commonly found clinical features. I have one of the more severe called Type 3.
I estimate that I have had around 250 broken bones in my lifetime, though I don't really keep count. OI is caused by mutations to collagen molecules in the body. As such it can also effect other aspects of your body such as skin, teeth, hearing, and even your heart.
Most people that have OI experience the majority of their fractures before puberty when the body's bones are still developing.
My type of OI (Type 3) is considered severe/moderate which is why I have never walked and am around 3 feet tall. I also have low respiratory functions and I am partially deaf. I use an electric wheelchair to get around and hearing aids to hear.
I have always tried to live my life as fully as possible and attack each day like a very hungry honey badger!
This week is OI awareness week, which is why I wanted to come here and do this AMA!
You can learn more about OI by asking me questions in the comments, or from the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation >> http://www.OIF.org/
At the moment I am raising money for OIF's biennial national conference and I'd LOVE your support: https://myevent.com/OIFWalknWheel2024/participants/joehall Any little bit helps.
Over the next couple of days I'll try my best to answer as many questions as I can.

Thank you to everyone who participated in today's AMA! It's been an insightful and engaging discussion on the complex dynamics of social media, mental health, and health misinformation. Unfortunately, I was not able to reply to every question but I hope you'll find what you need in what we were able to cover. Hello! I'm Ryan Prior, a journalist who worked for six years at CNN, including covering health and science as a features writer during the Covid-19 pandemic. I left to write my book "The Long Haul." You can find the book through MIT Press here. I became a Fellow and Journalist-in-Residence at the Century Foundation -- a think tank in Washington, DC -- where I researched public policy ideas to inform an all-of-government response to Long Covid. At Century, I also began writing a column called "Patient Revolution" for Psychology Today.
If there's one north star that informs my work it's that the authentic power of lived experience can fuse with data-driven scholarship in nearly any field to inform the highest quality policy response. In my own life, that's meant a journey of being diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), writing about it for USA Today, and eventually helping co-found the ME Action Network, a non-profit that is igniting a global campaign for health equity for those with chronic illness. Those experiences led me to become a Stanford Medicine X ePatient, meeting dozens of brilliant patient advocates and innovators from around the world. So when millions got sick with Covid -- and stayed sick -- I knew I had more than a decade's head start to write this book, and weave together personal experience, philosophical reflection, and up-to-the-minute science reporting.

Hi Everyone! My name is Aimee, and I'm the Executive Producer (and Marketing Director) of Paleo Pines here at Italic Pig! It's been just over 7 months since we launched Paleo Pines and what an absolute joy it's been getting to work on this cozy game and getting to know all the players. For those of you that might not have heard of Paleo Pines, it's a wholesome farming sim where you get to befriend and farm with dinos! We recently won the*GameHers Best Game of the Year - an honour that we're still completely chuffed about.
We've held plenty of AMAs in our discord channel in the past but this is the first time we've ventured into Reddit to host one - I think it's the perfect time for a chill AMA and if there are any questions that I can't answer, I've got our entire team that I can call upon to help me out. We're an indie studio based in Northern Ireland that's been around for about 13 years so you can pretty much ask me anything about the world of Paleo Pines, how it was developed or just pop on and tell us what your favourite dino is!
I'll be starting to respond to the questions at 9pm BST but feel free to start asking so I can jump right in!

Hello everyone! My name is Peter, the CEO at Rain Games, and project lead on titles like Teslagrad 1 & 2, World to the West, and Mesmer. A mix of metroidvania, puzzle, and adventure games. We started out in 2010, and launched our first game, Teslagrad in 2013.
We found unexpected success, and have learned A LOT MORE since then.
Now, it’s just been a year since we released Teslagrad 2!
To honor the occasion, and as it’s been a while since our last one, we’re doing an AMA!
Ask us about anything you like, be it obscure lore, developer tips and tricks, or beer. I can talk extensively about beer.
Joining me is Ole Ivar Rudi (u/oliibald), the art director for all of our titles, and a more qualified mind as it comes to art, design, and obscure movie trivia.
I hope that'll cover most of our bases.

Through tireless research and meticulous attention to detail, my team and I recreated Sengoku-era Japan in breathtaking fashion, capturing its expansive vistas and intricate architecture. Shōgun was shot largely in British Columbia, but one could easily mistake the location for feudal Japan itself, as we introduced entire waterfalls and oceans to the Canadian landscape. My other credits include Joss Whedon’s Serenity, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, as well as several projects across the Indian film industry. You can follow me on Instagram at michaelcliett.

Hello! I’m Dr. Kristin Kroll and I am a pediatric psychologist who specializes in working with children and adolescents diagnosed with chronic medical concerns (such as diabetes, asthma, congenital heart disease, etc). I have a PhD and was an assistant professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin prior to launching my virtual private practice that provides virtual care to patients in over 39 states in the USA.
I’m passionate about helping families of children and adolescents with medical concerns learn more about how to enhance their overall quality of life and reduce the impact of their medical condition upon the family. I am happy to answer mental health questions related to pediatric chronic medical concerns, provide recommendations about how to find mental health resources, and other mental health questions. I cannot answer any questions related to medicines given that I am a PhD rather than an MD.

Hello! I am Erik Davis, a scholar and writer on technology, music, counter-culture, drugs, psychedelics, and spirituality. You can read my Burning Shore Substack here and check out decades of writing and speaking here, including ten years of my influential podcast Expanding Mind, which explored the “cultures of consciousness.” I have written six books, including Techgnosis, High Weirdness, and most recently, Blotter: The Untold Story of an Acid Medium. Proof it's me. Blotter, created in collaboration with Mark McCloud's Institute of Illegal Images, is the first comprehensive written account of the history, art, and design of LSD blotter paper, telling the story of acid alongside a heavily illustrated visual journey through psychedelic lore.
I admit I am proud of this one. It's tough to stake out some unmarked territory in the landscape of psychedelic media these days, and this project covers some very fresh and funky ground! Please feel free to ask me anything, including questions about the so-called “psychedelic renaissance," San Francisco bohemia, underground comix, crime culture, the Grateful Dead, Burning Man, hippie mysticism, punk psychedelia, or growing up a teenage acidhead in Southern California in the 1980s.
You can get Blotter through your local bookstore or wherever books are sold.
The film follows Oncologist and Breakthrough Prize winner, Dr. Carl June as he takes on the impossible: Finding a cure for cancer. All of June’s research and work are on the line when my 6-year-old Emily, who had run out of options to beat her Leukemia, becomes the first child to enroll in this experimental trial. And we never looked back.
From a parent's point of view, it's of course beyond heartbreaking to see your child in this state however, I'm here to tell other parents and patients in similar situations, that it's critical to educate yourself on cancer and immunotherapy when faced with a diagnosis - and to surround yourself with those on a positive path. The default path is not always the best path for everyone, and while doctors are doing amazing things every day, they're not all interfacing with types of options our medical team thankfully brought to the table.
I'm here to highlight the importance of being informed and proactive in seeking the best treatment options for yourself and your family. Ask Me Anything!

I've been in the home building industry for the past 20 years, and I've seen a lot in that time. I'm familiar with every stage, from the initial development process to the final handover.
There are a lot of myths and rumors about homebuilding and the cost of homes ("why doesn't anyone build starter homes!") so I am here to either dispel or confirm them.
While I can't answer site-specific questions, I can answer about development and home building in general. My expertise is mostly in the development side, ie. Obtaining land, getting approvals to build, and then installing infrastructure.
