Why would iCloud Mail 'sent' photos be out of sequence, date wise?

I have them set to 'sort by date,' yet for example, they'll be 4/18, 4/19, 4/21, 4/22, 4/23, 4/19, 4/24.

Thousands of photos/videos disappeared please help):

So for the record I’ve always had icloud photos turned on, but my phone for a while was getting full on storage. About six months ago, I noticed my camera roll went from around 7k pics/videos to 3k. I figured it had to do with my crazy high storage, searched for some tips on that, and turned on “optimize iphone storage” in my photo settings, (this puts full resolution versions of your videos on icloud, and replaces the ones in your camera roll with smaller low resolution ones) this immediately cut my storage in half, but the missing videos/pics didn’t reappear. I’ve been periodically checking icloud on my computer for months to see if any backups appeared but nothing. If there’s anything I could do to get my pictures back pleaseeeeeee let me know. I’ve seen posts of this happening to other people and then the missing pictures just randomly reappearing some day but I feel like that would’ve happened by now if that was the case.

How to move iCloud photos library out of ~/Pictures folder to another folder?

I do not want to do this to save space on the Mac. I just want that Library to be elsewhere e.g. directly in home (~/) folder. I just don't want it inside /Pictures folder.

(In case anyone is curious - Because I back up my Pictures folder and I often after offloading files from iCloud to Pictures folder I delete it from iCloud. In short - I just want these folder not connected on disk.)

How can I do that? Is that the system photo library? So doing this would work - Designate a System Photo Library in Photos ? I also do not want to lose any iCloud photos at this point.

Freeform on iOS taking up local storage despite using iCloud for it

Hi,

Before anything, I understand iCloud isn't a regular cloud service, ergo it's not supposed to work as one. However, I noticed my Freeform boards are 330 MB on iCloud; 330 MB on my MacBook and it's also taking 380 MB on my iPhone.

Is that supposed to be that way? I thought it would work kinda like Photos, which only uses 3-5% worth of my total photo library. Or am I missing something?

Should I switch to iCloud as OneDrive's Files On Demand feature is unreliable and sometimes becomes a steaming hot pile of garbage?

So the title actually explains itself a bit. I was happily using OneDrive until I recently noticed that it randomly wanted to download a 15.3 GB 7z archive, whereas I absolutely didn't need or even touched that file in literally months. And it did this while I was connected to my MOBILE HOTSPOT, and marked it as a Low Data Mode network. OneDrive literally sucked half of my remaining data in my monthly plan in minutes, and I knew that it was finally time to bite the bullet.

As I'm on a search for a different cloud-storage provider, would you recommend me to switch to iCloud? I also read the reviews about Google Drive, but saw that many people considered it as a bad solution for device backups, but good for storing files only on cloud. And that's what I do: I currently back my entire Documents and Pictures folders up to OneDrive. Plus, AFAIK Google Drive doesn't have a competitor feature for Files On Demand of OneDrive: Your files will be either on the cloud or both in your PC and the cloud. And there's no way I can do that with a 300 GB Documents folder on my 512 GB MacBook. Also I've heard of syncing issues in Google Drive too as some people lost their files randomly.

Dropbox seems too pricey compared to its competitors, at least in my country.

AFAIK iCloud has a storage optimization feature where it deletes unused files from your device and only stores it in cloud, and downloads them back when you frequently use them. Just like Files On Demand. This makes it a compelling option for me, with a few major drawbacks that I've read on internet:

The inconvenience of accessing files from a non-Apple device + sharing a file with a person who doesn't have an Apple ID + no block-based file sync (if you edit a file, the whole file gets re-uploaded instead of just the edited block). Are those true?

My phone is currently a Galaxy S21 (although I plan to switch to an iPhone in coming months), and while I can just fire up the iCloud website on my phone when I need my files, notes, and other stuff; it's not convenient as much as just having an app to do it and the website can be buggy at times. Looking at you, Apple. -_-

And I live in a country where Apple is not a major player, so many people don't even have an Apple ID. How do you share files to a person in this case?

And perhaps the most important of all, does iCloud do such random a**hole behavior as OneDrive did to me? I guess that it would be more integrated to my MacBook as it's also an Apple service and would respect my network settings (please).

Would you recommend iCloud to someone in such a situation?

Backing up iCloud Photos to Backblaze

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this automatically? Right now it’s a manual process of exporting photos from the Photos app to a folder so it gets backed up by backblaze. Thanks.

iCloud Drive Discrepancy across devices.

I would be grateful if you could help me to resolve this issue:

I have three devices – iPhone, iPad, Macbook – and all are up to date.

I have iCloud and iCloud Drive enabled on all three.

On the Macbook there are 17 apps listed as “syncing to iCloud Drive” and I have 6 switched on (Mail, Messages, Photos etc.)

However, on the iPhone and iPad there are only 2 apps listed under iCloud Drive (Numbers and Scriptable)– but NO option to add any more…

I have searched the internet for hours, and examined every device setting that I can to try to resolve this but am stuck. Why can’t I add the same apps, particularly key ones like Mail and Messages, to the iPhone and iPad iCloud Drive?

Thanks in advance.

iCloud App for Windows - without Windows Store

I am trying to find an offline installer for Windows 10 as Windows Store is disabled on my corporate PC. There is a newer version 15 available. I just cannot find a link to install it with an offline installer.

Photos don’t sync

Hi guys! I really need some help. My iCloud doesn’t sync the way it’s supposed to when it comes to the photos, which makes the photos take up a lot of space on my phone and always have a full storage. I have the 2TB iCloud plan, and only 300GB are taken, but still 80 GB photos take up space on my phone. Before you say to do iCloud backup and sync now etc, I’ve already done it several times and it says it’s done, but it’s still 80 GB of photos taking up space. It’s like they refuse to transfer to iCloud. Thanks in advance:)

Moving from Google One to iCloud?

^(So the story - I am a long-time user of Google products (~20 years now). I have been using Google Photos & Drive to store all my important documents. I have been living in Europe for the past few years, but my stay was never planned for this long, which is why I never changed the country in my Google account. My old subscriptions continued using the payment method of my home country.)

^(Now, I suddenly see all the payment methods are declined (justifiably so, as my account should now be migrated to Europe). While I have no complains about the products as such, I feel the pain to pay a much higher amount for the same products I have been using for so long.)

^(On the other hand, I have been using an iPhone since I moved to Europe and to backup WhatsApp, I do need to buy some iCloud storage anyway. So instead of paying in Euro for both Google and iCloud, I am wondering if I should switch to iCloud altogether and keep Gmail to the bare minimum of 15GB.)

^(The questions I have are:)

^(1. Has anyone moved from Google Cloud to iCloud? How is the transition executed?)

^(2. Is iCloud photo storage as user friendly as Google cloud?)

Question about iCloud Drive storage

I travel for work and have a portable SSD of work-related data that I access with my laptop.

I want to keep a copy of that same data in iCloud Drive so that, in the event that the SSD should crap out while I'm traveling, I still have access to the data through iCloud Drive (the SSD is also backed up elsewhere).

In case I'm misunderstanding how iCloud Drive works, is this a workable way to have mobile access to two copies of my data—SSD and iCloud?

Moving to iCloud from Dropbox

Hi! I am a Dropbox user and been backing up photos in there for many many years. Dropbox is now more of a business minded product and I would like to take advantage of iCloud photo memories and their other cool feature. I have a local copy of Dropbox. I can simply switch it off and the get iCloud to back it up, but..

How does it work with photos? Dropbox has a camper upload folder, does iCloud have something similar?

What about the photos on my phone? Should I back them all up on Dropbox, then delete everything and start from scratch in iCloud or I can leave them there and iCloud is smart enough to not duplicate them?

Thanks for any help

Avoiding the monthly fees

Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone has found a convenient solution to avoid the monthly fees. It's not a cost issue so much, I'm just trying to reduce/combine my number of monthly bills to as few as possible and wanted to see if anyone had an effective solution here. I did have a few ideas but they're not exactly ideal:

  1. Add funds to Apple account in App Store and set that as your default payment method; the issue is this will go beyond just iCloud (no way to separate it from other things you want to pay for).
  2. Subscribe to Apple One through Verizon; it's 9.99 which is an awesome deal but it only limits me to 50GB which is just not enough (I'm currently at 100GB and paying for 200GB).
  3. Move photos to a Shared Album; this can technically give you unlimited storage since its a Shared Album its a bit inconvenient to look there each time

If you have any ways of removing this little fee from your statement, let me know of your suggestions! Thanks!

Help with storing photos and videos outside of iCloud to free up storage

I know very little about technology so please excuse that, I currently pay for 200gb iCloud storage but it's getting close to being full, I don't want to permanently delete any photos or videos but a lot of the vids i wouldn't mind storing somewhere else, my question is basically is there a way to select only certain photos/videos and store them somewhere else then delete off iCloud + where would that be? I thought of Google Photos but I'm not sure you can select specific pics/vids to store there and not others so it would fill up quick, and what's my cheapest option for photo and video storage from an Iphone in general? Thanks

Please help me get rid of files in iCloud safely

I want to get rid of iCloud files. I have no need for it. I'm fine with not having a backup. It fills up my iCloud and I don't like that.

I don't know how to delete it and I don't know if deleting it will get rid of my files from my desktop. iCloud Drive says it has 2.2 GB. However, all the files on my desktop are 2.2 GB. Are these the same files, meaning de-syncing iCloud deletes them, or seperate? How do I seperate them?

iCloud on WIndows 11 not working

I found threads regarding this (one only 7 months old), but they are all archived. Why is that? As the problem persists.

The issue is that iCloud on Windows 11 is stuck on "initializing" when the amount of files on the drive is just large enough (in my case ~125.000 files). I have the exact same behavior on 3 desktops and 2 laptops now, on different networks. I tested probably all other larger drive solutions out there, and none of them has this issue.

If threads explaning the same issue get archived, does that mean Apple is not working on a solution?

My documents folder didn‘t fully sync because the storage was full

How can I trigger a resync so that the full files are uploaded? I already tried moving the files into a different folder but that just moved the incomplete files.

Is the only option to move the files out of iCloud and then move them back in?

Missing photos

Hi there, I took a bunch of priceless photos today and my phone started acting glitchy so I turned it off. When I turned it back on, all the photos were gone. I’m guessing they were trying to sync to iCloud but failed. Is there any hope I may get my photos back? I didn’t realize they weren’t also saved to my phone storage. Hopefully not poofed into the abyss 😰

7 years of emails gone

As the title suggests, I woke up yesterday to find all of my emails on my icloud account gone. After spending some time researching this online, it seems like there's just nothing I can do? It looks the same on my phone and macbook, which is why I'm concerned. I've already restarted both, but to no avail. They don't show up on icloud.com either, and I definitely didn't delete them. Can anyone help?

Force bulk photo m/video upload to icloud

Is this possible? I am tired of playing the waiting game on syncing pausing and unpausing and being capped at low upload speeds. I have stopped my devices from going to sleep and kept them plugged in but it still takes days just to sync ~50 — 100gb of photo/video media, and constant checking on my part. This is with solid 50mbps upload speeds, which I’m pretty sure Apple isn’t fully utilizing.

What I would like to be able to do is select all the files on my local device and press one button to sync them all to the cloud, and not have that process stop unless the connection ceases. I would also like to view a progress bar.

If this feature does not exist, which product manager at Apple do we have to flood with DMs requesting it? This seems like such a tablestakes cloud media management capability.

Mail not backing up to icloud

Is it possible to transfer years of email messages in folders that are on my Mac to iCloud as a Backup?

I use Google Workspace for my email server. I have a main email address with Google and alias email addresses that forward to my main email address.
I am able to use Google Mail email via Chrome Browser AND I prefer to use Apple Mail on my 2018 MacBook Pro (running Sonoma 14.4.1) because Apple Mail allows me to sort email messages into folders with a cleaner interface.
My Mac crashed last week and I realized that I never backed up Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro to iCloud. So now that my Mac is fixed, I just went to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > turn on Apple Mail.... but nothing happened.
When I log into my iCloud account on Safari, Apple Mail is empty.
Is it possible to transfer years of email messages in folders that are on my Mac to iCloud as a Backup?
