New account to delete old pics?

I have over 18,000 photos that I don’t want to see every time I open my photos album, but I don’t want to delete ALL of them. There are too many to go through and delete a selection. It’s mostly screenshots or 50 versions of the same photo/event that I just never got around to deleting.

I’m at the point of just creating a new iCloud account and resetting my phone. Before I do that, any suggestions?

Messages / Texts Showing on Two iPhones after 18.1.1 Update

My wife and I share an iCloud account out of convenience. Never had a problem. She didn't see my texts and I didn't see hers. Now after the 18.1.1 iOS update, she's getting her texts plus mine. I cannot find a setting to control this. Old solutions online no longer work since the options have changed. Is there a way to fix this or does she need to have her own iCloud account? TIA

Is there a way to backup messages ONLY to one iCloud device and not to every single device while still using the app universally?

I have 3 MacBooks and 2 iPhones that I use constantly for work and home. They're all basically maxed out of usable storage (except for the newest iPhone 16 pro max 1tb). Mostly because of messages which takes up 45gb on each devices. I would like to be able to text across all devices like they were one device as I'm doing now, but I don't want the 45gb of used space on all devices. I would like to keep the pics and vids which is what I'm assuming is taking up the huge amount of space, on the iPhone 16pm only. I use the pics and vids to refer back to what I quoted prices and the like, when doing business. Is there a way to delete / remove the files that are taking up the most space on the 4 devices while still using the messages app universally and keeping the large files on the one iPhone 16pm? If not, how should I resolve this?

iOS 18.1 photos sync issue

Hi I just discovered not a single photo from my iPhone has been synced with my iCloud since I installed the 18.1 update. Anyone else having this issue and know what to do? I already toggled the sync on and off and restarted my device. Thanks

Solution for iCloud mail silent filtering

Just wanted to share a solution for iCloud mail's silent filtering that I haven't seen anyone mention - SimpleLogin

Essentially, it's an email aliasing service that routes emails sent to your email aliases to your "main" email. It's commonly used by privacy minded people to protect their main inboxes from spam but it has a secondary utility here for catching bounced emails from iCloud.

Not only does it notify you of a bounced email, but it also keeps it for up to 7 days. I personally used the premium subscription while testing this, but I'd expect the free tier to work the same.

SimpleLogin is overall much better than Apple's HideMyMail as it doesn't lock you down to a specific email provider, making it much easier to switch email providers in the future. It's also open source and has the option to export your aliases meaning you can easily switch to another email aliasing provider or even host it yourself.

Theoretically, other email aliasing options should also work. So if anyone has tried other options, feel free to let us know as well.

iCloud not syncing properly

Hello people I need your help. I was using iCloud like month ago and everything went well. Everything was syncing on MacBook, iPad and iPhone, but now it is saying that it is sync but I can't load pictures on MacBook or iPad (on iPhone I can see them because that's were I took them).

It is really frustrating cos I want to create some work but I can't cous I can't load my videos.

Also lot of the times syncing don't start automatically but I need to click syncing in the photo app otherwise it will not start.

I have 2TB iCloud and enough space left. Is there something I can do or not?

I can't get an email from a specific sender

Hello everyone !! What can be done about it? It is very necessary to reset the password on one site, which, in theory, sends an email with a link to reset the password to my icloud mail, but it simply doesn’t reach my mail, there is also no emails in the spam folder.

A couple of months ago, i still reached it, although with a wild delay, or for some reason the VPN helped, now nothing helps.

I didn't block the sender and other useless recommendations from Apple don't work. For example, an email for my other account reaches gmail without any problems. I’ve tried to talk two times with apple support but they cant do nothing .

KeepSafe and photo apps

If I have photos in a app with a password to see the photos like KeepSafe, are the pictures accessible and will they show up to anyone who downloads that same app on their phone if they have the same iCloud or is the KeepSafe app on their phone blank. Meaning is the app and the pictures stored on the app personal to the phone or the same for anyone with the same iCloud? Trying to understand how apps and iCloud work under two phones under the same iCloud .

We have different apple ids but the same iCloud.

What information does it share when I click an iCloud link?

What information does it provide when a link is clicked? For example, if I share a training video (a share.icloud.com link) to someone I'm curious if it will create a log of who actually opened/watched the video or if they remain anonymous to me. If it isn't anonymous, what info does it give me?

iCloud and Contacts

iCloud and Contacts : way back in iOS 16 I stopped using iCloud to sync my contacts. Problem was iCloud didn’t keep my contacts on my phone and whenever I wasn’t connecting to the cloud (not uncommon I work in surgery and didn’t want to use the guest WiFi in my hospital) Has this improved or is it still the same?

How to Use iCloud for iMessages Without Downloading Locally on MacBook?

All my messages are backed up to iCloud, as I use it on my phone. However, my MacBook Pro, which uses the same messaging account, seems to download all the messages to the device. Is it not possible to have it run off iCloud storage, since the messages are already stored there?

Saving old imessages?

Hey folks,

My Dad died in 2023 and I really want to make sure I can save and download our message chain in case something happens to the cloud. I have looked for ways to do this on support threads but I wanted to see if anyone here knew a better way than having to physically scroll back to the beginning of the thread. Thanks!

How to Automate Transferring iCloud Data to Mac and then Deleting from iCloud?

I regularly get the “iCloud storage is full” notification. It’s a hassle dealing with it. And I don’t like the upgrade storage option because it just delays it, not eliminate it.

Can I set up my Mac to automatically create a local backup whenever it syncs with iCloud, and then delete the iCloud copy? I already have a Mac backup service and 1 TB of storage, so this setup would be perfect for me.

Photo download on Windows frequently get's stuck, potentially corrupted files

My mother in law has an iPhone which she takes photos with. She also have a Windows 11 computer on which she needs the photos. To help her with this, I installed iCloud (I know my way around Windows, but has never really used an Apple device) on the computer (which also has One Drive, if that matters). The issue is that every now and then iCloud get's stuck at downloading and syncing images, usually it sais "3 out of 5 files has been downloaded (or simislair, do not remember the exact frasing) but it never progesses.

To try to figure out i go to the web browser and browse the images on icloud.com. By looking in windows explorer which files has been downloaded, I can narrow it down to which images that it is stuck on. The strange thing is that on icloud.com those images, that it get's stuck on, seems corrupted. I can not preview them in icloud.com and when deleting them on icloud.com the syncing in the iCloud windows applications resumes and works again (and starts downloading newer images.

To give more info, the "corrupted" images are downloaded to the Windows and exists there as images, but it feels like iCloud never sees them as finished and does not resume with the next file. On top of this, she has a photo-viewer application which crashes as soon as it sees those "corrupted" images.

Any idea what the issue might be and how to resolve it?

How do I keep all of my iCloud files on the iCloud drive without it saving on my local storage.

Basically the question... I have a 50 GB iCloud drive account, but have noticed that is taking about 18 GB of my phone storage... How do I delete it, so that it is only accessible on the cloud without it taking up so much space on my phone.

Deleting to Backup

I haven't been able to backup my phone for a very long time due to a lack of space and really don't want to pay for the extra space, what would happen if I delete my phone's backup (turn off and delete from ICloud) and then try to immediately backup again? Would this work? What would happen?

Best way to get photos/videos off iCloud?

I'm trying to reduce the amount of space used in my iCloud so I can downgrade my plan but my MacBook doesn't have enough storage to hold all the photos. Is it possible to maybe download like half of my photos and then delete them from iCloud?

Also, what is the best way to get the original quality photos off iCloud and onto a hard drive?

Divorcing and need to leave Family iCloud.

My ex is the owner / admin for our family sharing iCloud. We have teenage children that are on it, as am I. We each have our own Apple ID’s. I desire to leave the “family sharing plan” that the ex hosts and instead put myself and the teens on the same kind of plan under my Apple ID.

How can I do this without losing data, texts, photos, etc from my or my teens’ storage and devices? I’m afraid If we each individually “leave” the family plan, we’ll lose something.

And,what steps are in the process so that can I do it quickly (once I start the process) so that it’s done before the ex realize it started?

Icloud text backup

Icloud said storage was full so I went into manage storage and decided to “disable & delete” my 20GB worth of messages, thinking it would only remove them from the icloud backup. Apparently they are now gone off my phone and I cannot restore them as “undo disable & delete” only restored 4.7 GBs worth of texts. Can anyone help with this please??

PSA: Use Gmail’s dot trick to avoid Apple Calendar hijacking invites!

Hey folks, just learned a handy trick for inviting Gmail users to calendar events without issues.

If your friend or family member uses their Gmail address as their Apple ID, any calendar invites you send them will default to their Apple Calendar instead of Gmail. Super annoying, right?

Here’s the fix: use Gmail’s dot trick! Add a period anywhere in their Gmail address when sending the invite (e.g., first.last@gmail.com instead of firstlast@gmail.com). Gmail treats it the same, but Apple doesn’t recognize it as their ID, so the invite will go to their Gmail Calendar like you wanted.

Takes 2 seconds, and no more misplaced invites. Hope this helps someone!

iCloud+ with 200g and a free month of google 100g & OneDrive 50g.. where do I start?

I have the bull of pics/videos/files storage synced to all 3 with a lot more plus device and app settings stored on iCloud. I want to stick with Apple and iCloud and plan to ditch google pictures and OneDrive. Which put me in this confusing situation where my iCloud and Apple devices have it all converted when it comes to storage space, but existing/previous backups or storages still remain on the google/Microsoft accounts (each having their share of private selections and original files.

Everything got synced up when I really didn’t want it to, so I have a couple weeks to figure out the path to ditching Microsoft/google paid services and primarily using iCloud (which I’ve been kinda/sorta been doing for years)

This is confusing me, any suggestions?

Suppression photos

I deleted photos from my iPhone and accidentally deleted the "recently deleted" folder.

I hoped to recover them by restoring an iCloud backup dating from 2 days before the deletion by mistake and then surprise, I did not recover the photos. Any tips? Knowing that photo backup on iCloud is activated…

Thank you 🙏🏼

Reappearing deleted messages

Toggled iCloud messages off then back on and while my device resync it brought back old deleted messages. Anyone else ever experience this? Messages from months and some from years ago. Could it be linked to my MacBook not being used often but text messages still going to that device (not connected to iCloud)

What are my options?

My phone is absolutely destroyed and I didn’t pay the 99 cent fee for extra storage so it could be backed up. My only option here seems to be to get the old phone backed up. The problem here is that all the tricks I’ve found require the charging port to function along with Siri. When it’s plugged in, the light that would be to the screen can be seen flashing almost like a heartbeat. Should I replace the screen and go try to go from there or is it a lost cause?

I’ve searched this thread but can’t seem to understand the answer.

Are iCloud Photos encrypted upon download. As in if I connect to a public wifi and iCloud auto downloads a photo I am looking at on my phone can the Wi-Fi provider see the photos?

Sorry i know similar questions have been asked a lot. I just don’t understand the answers. Thank you.
