It’s a 3 day weekend. Go over to OHsnap in the RWC and get a bag of food for free. They have eggs, cheese and veggies today.
Hi! I am a prospective Humboldt student. I entered planning to major in Wildlife, but I’ve begun to have my doubts and have shifted towards majoring in Zoology. I feel super torn between the two majors because I feel like there’s great content in both.
What are the functional differences between the two? What’s the field work like? What can I expect career-wise after college for them? What are the pros and cons of each in your opinion?
Any information helps.
Anyone going to LA for Thanksgiving that can take me? I was signing up for the homeward bound bus when they closed the form. I'm willing to pay the $150 I was gonna use for the bus
I would love to join if there are
Need advice-
Yesterday me and my roommate were hanging out in our room on my bed, and she ended up laughing so hard that she peed herself a bit. I didn't want to make a big deal about it and embarrass her more but I was also lowkey grossed out that there was now pee on my bed, so I just said it was okay but asked if she could buy me new bed sheets since she was the one who peed on them. She just said okay but then this morning she wasn't in our room and she's been gone all day, and I got a text earlier from her that I am making a big deal out of nothing and that she would pay to wash my sheets for me, but it is ridiculous to ask her to pay for completely new ones. I talked to my friend about it and she said that I should just compromise and have her wash the sheets for me, but this is crazy right?? I should not have to be forced to use sheets that someone ELSE peed on if I am not comfortable with it?? Is this something I need to talk to the RA about, or how do I get her to actually solve the issue??
Currently a junior here and I failed some classes(I hate zoo110 with a burning passion), and it set me back hard. And looking at it I do not believe i would graduate in the standard 4 years. And lots of people I know are staying or have stayed 5-6 years for undergrad. Is 4 years an unreasonable amount of time for a stem student here?
Hi! I'm an international student from China, about to complete my bachelor’s degree in History. I’m looking into applying for a master’s program at Cal Poly Humboldt, and I find both the MSW and Environment & Community programs appealing.
The MSW program offers opportunities to work in rural and tribal areas, which could be valuable for working in minority communities when I return to China. However, I’m concerned that the tight schedule might leave little time for personal exploration. I’m also drawn to Humboldt’s beautiful natural surroundings and know the university has strong programs in environmental science and wildlife studies. I love nature and animals, and I’d like to spend more time with them.
The Environment & Community program seems to fit my interests better, but I worry it might have fewer fieldwork opportunities.
I have limited knowledge about the Humboldt area and would love to know if there are any radical activist groups in the area—I’m very interested in grassroots organizations, social movements, and sustainable food systems. I’d greatly appreciate your help! Do you recommend studying at Humboldt, and which program would you suggest? Thank you so much for your advice!
Hi everyone, I'm planning on transferring to Humboldt and was wondering how the History Education major is like. When applying, there was an option for History and History Education, what would be the difference? How are the history teachers like? How's the teaching credential program? Thanks!
A fun life requires participation
iykyk (i’m not sure so i’m asking 🥸)
Hey everyone, I’m a student at CPH and wondering if there are any dungeons and dragons groups that are beginner friendly. I have no experience playing but it seems like a ton of fun and would love to join in on a game if anyone plays or know anyone who plays. Thanks :)
My access to my unofficial transcript doesn’t seem to be working? It says that this process may take a few minutes but it’s been a few hours with the tab open and it’s still not showing me anything. Can anyone help?
Where do you recommend getting/ordering your textbooks from? I am disappointed in the campus online bookstore. Where should I look for next semester instead?
hello, i’ve been applying for like virtually every job on handshake, in town, and dinning but have been hearing nothing back or having no luck securing the job. I have experience in office, retail, and food service but still haven’t been able to get anything. why is it so hard to get jobs on and off campus does anyone have any tips i’m really struggling
Hello! I'm a bit confused on the degree requirements for physics bs and math ba. Do these cover the same requirements?
Also what the heck is biostatistics? Is that different than regular statistics?
I'll be taking math methods in physics, does that cover anything for the math major or vice versa?
I'm transferring with lower division prerequisites completed I'm just confused if some of these are variations of other classes and if they'd count for the same thing
Currently living on campus in Arcata, I like it a lot here; love the easy forest access, the quirky, "portland-esque" vibe the town has, and how friendly the locals are. Definitely wish there were a couple more stores here though, it's a bit tough to find everything I might need between safeway, the co-op and wildberries.
Not a huge fan of Eureka, it's feels just really run down and kind of "trashy", and it seems a bit tougher to find friendly faces there. Malls are fine, the shopping's ok, but I haven't been there enough times to see what other things there are to do.
Love Trinidad, at least what I've seen form it. Gorgeous views and I love the esthetic of some of the architecture. Wonderful hiking trails, and love the beaches uo there.
Haven't explored that much of Humboldt yet so there's still lots I want to see. What are some of your favorite places to visit here?
Took media design last semester and was really stoked to get to learn and play around with the adobe suite for the first time, and was looking forward to using it for other projects for different classes. Well aware of alternatives, but there is no denying how nice full access was either, especially considering how much we pay to be here.
Tried using it today and access has expired, tried logging in and reinstalling too. Accordiung to this link students lost free access over the summer: https://hsu-forms.humboldt.edu/software/ Don't tell me I have to be enrolled in a design/art/journalism course for access, or can it now only be used for free on campus? Anyone currently in any design or journalism courses, curious as to what instructors are reccomending ya'll do if you have to do anything from home...
So there I was last night, you know, sleeping off a long day of work, when I'm woken up at 3 in the morning by a fire alarm. It was ringing all through my room, and I went out to the main area of the apartment and sure enough, it was coming from here (I could barely tell since I was still super tired, but it got quieter when I went outside). Anyways I had to sit with that dreadful noise for 30 minutes ish, when an ra comes over, checks me and my roommates dorms for fire/smoke, leaves, and thankfully after another 20 minutes the alarm shuts up.
So I think it's obvious, but...nobody was cooking, smoking, or doing anything at 3 am to set off the alarm. It was really cold inside, the heating was turned off. There were literally no fire or smoke threats inside our building. According to that ra, the smoke alarms can go off for "a variety of reasons", or in other words, "just 'cause".
So you're telling me these bullshit alarms are both too sensitive as to mistake steam as smoke, but are also so faulty that they literally just go off from time to time with no reason?!?
I'm really starting to like the idea of moving off campus next semester now, like being here certainly has its pros, but if I have to deal with this migrane-inducing nonsense this frequently, I'm really not interested in being here another 6 months.
How prevalent is the pot culture? I am a mom under no disillusion that my “baby” girl will try new things when she goes away to college. But I also don’t want to send her into a drug culture. When I was younger (yes dinosaurs were around then) Humboldt was known for its pot use. But how much does it affect students daily lives and activity.
hello i have an interview for an on campus job coming up, any tips or details anyone can share for the interview ? along with that if they requested an interview am i likely to get hired ?
Been here about a month, but in that short time i've encountered lots of critters on and around campus; skunks, foxes, lots of salamanders, tons of slugs, jays, ravens, etc. It's really wonderful how diverse this region is, and since campus backs up directly into the woods it's nice being able to be so close to nature.
Does anyone here have any interesting wildlife encounters they've had here?
is there a secret society of nontraditional students that all hang out or study together? any clubs or regular on or off campus events that skew a bit older that are still mostly students? asking for a friend 😅
In case you don't know, last semester at Bigfoot the meal exchanges were all combos, so burgers and chicken sandwiches came with fries and a fountain drink. If you got either with flex dollars you would have to pay an extra dollar for cheese but that wasnt the case for meal exchange. However this semester they got rid of the fries so now you have to have a whole other meal exchange for fries AND you have to pay an extra dollar for cheese on the burgers or sandwiches with the meal exchange. It quite literally isn't enough food anymore without the fries, I would rather they got rid of the drink and just keep it burger/sandwich and fries. I feel like most dinning on campus has gotten way worse this semester and it's extremely disappointing considering how much we pay for it.
UPDATE:
Y'all apparently complaining on Reddit works! They've changed it back to the meal exchange for sandwiches and burgers coming with fries and a drink! Let's hope they keep it that way and improve other food options on campus!
Wtf can I get using a meal exchange at the depot? It says online I'm able to do so but the menus at the depot don't seem to specify what's acceptable for a meal exchange (like Bigfoot burgers). Every meal I've grabbed so far the cashiers have told me I'm unable to use a meal exchange and I have yet to see anything on the menu at the depot saying what falls under a meal exchange.
Need private meeting space for telehealth appointments. The few miniature soundproof cubicles in the library are never available
I have seen so much graffiti all over campus, way more than I’ve seen at my previous colleges. I see it mostly in bathroom stalls. What gives? What use do all these sharpied messages have, especially when it’s gone within a few days?
Which buildings have vending machines with food and/or drinks?
