Sync Box and LG tv

Does the sync box only work if your using a device like a cable box or Apple TV? We’ve always just used the tv apps instead of any extra devices. Looking to add one for the living room lights, but wasn’t sure if needed something additional like the Apple TV.

Hue Plug and lily lights control with dimmer remote

Can I control both lily outdoor lights and some non-smart lights which are plugged into a hue smart plug by a hue smart dimmer remote? Ie I want a single on/off button press on the remote to simultaneously turn on/off the lily lights and those connected to the smart plug. Also, once the smart plug is paired to the remote, can this also be controlled by the Philips hue app? I have the hue bridge fwiw….

Hue bulb (800lumen 3rd gen colour) turns on and off automatically in closed fixture

So I've had 2 of these bulbs for years in 2 identical fixtures in the same room. One of the bulbs for the last 2 years has been turning on and off by itself. I always need to turn it off at the wall when I go to bed.

I've noticed if I slowly turn the light intensity down on the bulb over like 15 mins, I can then turn it off remotely and it'll not turn back on, which makes me think it must be a heat issue.

Now I know these bulbs aren't meant to be in closed fixtures due to the heat problems, but why is 1 bulb absolutely fine and has been for like 3+ years while being turned on for longer 10 hours at times?

Also, I'm out of the loop with the latest Hue tech. Are the newer bulbs better with heat? Especially curious about the new 1600 lumen bulbs, but they would obviously produce way more heat.

Can I use the Hue Gradient Lightstrip without the HDMI Box?

And if yes, how does it know which colors to display behind my TV?

Nothing happens during setup when pressing the Hue Bridge button

Finally shelled out the money and upgraded to Hue because everyone says “it just works”. Well, I can’t even get past the setup menu so it’s not working at all for me.

I get to the setup step of the Hue app finding the Bridge (through the IP address) and instructing me to press the Bridge button. However, nothing happens when I press it.

I’ve unplugged both the router and Bridge multiple times, deleted and reinstalled the Hue app multiple times, tried to setup on my iPhone and iPad multiple times each, factory reset the Bridge itself multiple times, and continue to have the same issue.

The bridge is directly plugged into my router/modem. I’ve tried different Ethernet cables and ports. Same issue remains.

I’ve looked all over the internet and have not seen this issue, let alone, having it resolved.

I have the 3rd blue light blinking. Not sure if that’s part of the reason, but if anyone knows how to fix that I would appreciate it.

A tale of 2 bridges

OK, I have had a hue bridge and play bars (x3) and a colour changing bulb (from a pack of 3 with an unused bridge) for use in my PC room (using razer synapse for immersive lighting) with a few other hue bulbs dotted around the house, I've read that you can only have one entertainment zone in use at a time on a single bridge (not a problem as it was just for use for my own PC). My son has been talking about getting play bars for his PC as he likes the effects and immersive nature of them, I had a play about with setting up the second bridge and one of the colour changing bulbs today (to get ready to get him play bars) unfortunately I had mixed results, I created a second account for the bridge and got it set up and even got the bulb connected to it, tried getting it sorted for an entertainment one though and it wouldn't recognise the colour changing bulb (tried updating bulb software, disconnecting it from the app/reinstalling the bulb etc... Still no joy) has anyone had similar and found a workaround or able to let me know if this is even possible to do?

Thanks in advance!

Gradient Light Strop

Motion behavior doesn’t work at all.

Is anyone having a similar problem?

I just got a motion sensor controlling my master bedroom.

I have three behaviors.

8am-6pm does nothing.

From 6pm-11pm it’s bright.

From 11pm-8am it should only be dim for a minute.

But they just always turn on bright like it’s ignoring the behavior all together?

Non-stainless screws

How did they think through the decision to put non-stainless screws in an outdoor lamp?

This is the second time (within a year) one of my Calla pillars break, and this is starting to get quite expensive… Of course it’s happening when the warranty has expired and they’re just like ”well sorry about that, shit happends” when I contact them 😒

Hue sync setup complete

Finally finished my Hue sync setup in my great room. My goal was a whole room 3d experience.

Composed of 2 play bar lights on the top shelves, 75" gradient play light strip behind the 85" TV, and 6 recessed lights in the coffers. (I chose not add lights under the TV at this point, because the videos I've seen with 2 or 3 play bars under a TV doesn't look blocky and not as smooth as a gradient strip but they seem to work great in the high corners of the room... They look better used at a distance)

Hue sync box (although the TV can support the app, I read that it's less responsive?) High setting with about 50% brightness.

My takeaways/tips: The recessed lights in the ceiling envelop the room (maybe too much for some). My tile TV wall reflects the hot spots of the recessed lights (getting used to it...may add to the depth looks kinda behind the TV). The ceiling is 13' high inside the coffers and the room is long so didn't really get the rear row of coffers in video but the closer recessed lights pick up whatever color is on top 1/3 of screen, middle row of recessed lights pick up the middle 1/3 of TV colors, rear row of lights picks up the colors from the bottom of the TV. Overall, it works like a mirror. The upper corner play lights pick up what is happening on the corners of the TV. The gradient behind the TV, although nicer, is more subtle and harder to notice when all the other lights are flashing. The gradient light works great when video is dark at the top of the screen but there's something bright on one of the sides... It shoots light out all the way to the side walls and really makes it look like light is coming out the side of the TV adding to a 3d immersive experience.

I wanted to share the findings because a lot of videos I've seen just focus on what's around the TV.

Sadly, girlfriend and kids couldn't care less, when I was testing and trying to video a demo they roll their eyes and walk away. So if you're looking for the OoooOoo's and AAAAAaaahhhh's, it may not happen. Do it for yourself, not for others. But then Tlthat's why we also have reddit 😂

Questions: Any suggestions for a good remote to toggle sync mode off and on or adjust brightness without using phone app? I was hoping the wiz remote may do it but hue sync box requires IR remote and the wiz remote is 2.4 ghz WiFi.

I cannot set up my Hue Bridge, tried all possible solutions!

I have looked around the internet for the past 2 hours. I found multiple solutions such as:

Unplug and plug in again, as in power cable

Rebooting the bridge/router

Unplug and plug in the ethernet cable

Tried a different ethernet cable

Opened up firewalls, opened up ports

Putting in my IP adress through the Philips Hue app manually

No matter what I do, the bridge can connect fine to my router, but the third "internet connection" light keeps flashing and claims it has no access to the internet at all. I cannot make the mandatory update on the hue bridge through the application. When I look online if it is connected to my account on Philips Hue, it claims it is not connected at all.

The app initiates the update and sits around on "preparing update" for around 10 mins and then just tells me "update failed, check internet connection"

It feels like I have tried everything at this point and I cannot find anymore solutions, that I have not tried yet.

iOS widgets gone?

Last night I noticed my two Hue widgets were blank. Deleted them to add them back, and then I drew a blank when searching for apps supporting widgets.

Anyone else?

Wired Camera “Couldn’t add camera to home”

I have 2 flood light cameras and many lights added to the HUE Bridge. I’m unable to add a wired camera and getting “couldn’t add camera to home error message”. I purchased another camera thinking it was a camera issue but the same results. I’ve reached out to support the last few days with no luck. My case has been escalated. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to successful add the wired camera?

Bridge Third Light…

So it seems that this isn’t an uncommon issue, yet no reliable solution seems to exist. So apologies for beating a dead horse, buuuut….

After plugging the bridge into the router the first two lights go solid and the third light blinks - BUT the app detects the bridge, and prompts me to press the button.

However, pressing the button doesn’t do anything. I’ve also searched up the Bridge’s IP address to input manually, but it still asks me to press the button and doesn’t do anything different.

I’m feeling at a loss. I’ve seen at least one post that claimed that if you leave it overnight it’ll just update itself, but I’m not so sure. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Edit#1: My router is a BGW320-500, which from what I can tell is what the issue is.

Has anyone found a solution to Google Home not integrating yet?

Seen a lot of posts about it in various places but nobody seems to have figured it out yet. Just thought I'd ask before I decide to switch to something else.

When I try to connect Hue to Google Home, it goes through the process and then comes back with an error saying that it can't connect to Hue. I have factory reset my bridge and deleted my Hue account and created a new one. Nothing has worked.

I've had my devices connected before. But I stupidly factory reset everything when I moved a few days ago and now I can't get it to connect. I've tried everything I can think of and everything others have suggested in the many other posts about this

Hue TV Apps

Having a few problems with specific right side of the gradient strip flickering using the Samsung TV Hue Sync App. Happens infrequently but obviously not great. It's resolved when I disable and renewable sync via the app itself. Just sharing in case anyone else is experiencing it.

What happend to the mandatory Cloud login ?

Hey,

i use my Philips Hue devices (which is only 1 set of 5 bulbs + bridge) in Home Assistant and Apple Homekit and i was pretty mad when i read that Phillips will retroactively force people to use Phillips' cloud if they want to continue using their devices. But im still using mine without login and im curious what happend to those changes ? Did they decide to not go through with it, or is it still planned ?

I want to get more smart bulbs and i will definitly not go any deeper into the Hue ecosystem if that forces me to use their cloud.

FoH Lutron Aurora Dimmer Updated

Has anyone gotten the new firmware update to the Aurora Dimmers (came out in the last 72 hours I think)? I previously had it set so when I pressed the button the lights would turn off, and when off, would go back to the last setting (which was typically 75% brightness with Apple Home Adaptive Lighting). With the update, selecting the "last on" scene just takes it back to the last color temp it was at, and doesn't keep it adaptive. Plus it seems that clicking again doesn't turn the lights off. I'd love to go back to my prior settings, but it seems once I updated, that's not possible. I'm not sure what the purpose of this update was... but if I could get it to call an APPLE HOME scene rather than a Hue scene and then turn off if on, that would be all I need.

Festava Lights

There's apparently a 90-day use warning for this product, which I find odd given that the marketing photos for these lights show permanent/semi-permanent outdoor installations. Am I missing something? Have others used these lights outside on a deck or pergola long-term without issue?

Zigbee 3.0 dimmer problems

Hi,

I recently bought a btfl zigbee rgbcct 3.0dimmer, i’ve paired it with the hue bridge, all works well, can change colour en dim the lights within the hue app.

I have friends of hue rockers that i use to control the lights, i made automations to dimm the lights or scenes or on/off in de philips hue app. Everything works well but dimming(hold up/bottom rocker) is the only problem and by that i mean the original philips hue light dim perfectly fine but not the zigbee 3.0 dimmer from btfl. Is this common with not hue products using friends of hue dimmers?

Hue sync box displays everything as Dolby vision

Hello everybody,

Has anybody found an issue where everything that gets put through the sync box that isn’t a direct blu ray pulling Dolby vision settings. I’ve tried to stream Netflix on both my Xbox and blu ray player and they both set my tv to Dolby vision even though the content I’m watching isn’t in Dolby vision. Is there an issue with the sync box where it’s acting like all content is in DV?

I am connected to a lg b9, so i know I can handle Dolby vision but it’s popping up for non DV content

Lights randomly detatching from the bridge in one room - tearing my hair out.

I recently purchased and installed a variety of Hue bulbs, totaling fifteen, across three rooms. The main issue I'm facing is with the eight MR16 bulbs in my kitchen, which are proving to be quite temperamental.

All the bulbs are shown in the Hue app as connected to the bridge. However, these bulbs randomly do not work with the rest of the setup. At this moment, for example, if I switch off the whole kitchen, four lights stay on but show as 'off' in the app. All show the same kelvin temperature in the app, but three are distinctly different and I cannot amend the temperature on the four that stay on. Two days ago, there were three other MR16 bulbs behaving oddly. On that occasion, the bulbs disappeared from my app, so I had to re-add them, which I could only do after physically uninstalling and reinstalling them and adding via serial number, which I did earlier today.

It is nearly impossible that I have eight dodgy bulbs, so something must be awry in my setup. I've no idea how to diagnose what, though—the app says they are fine. Resetting the bulbs eventually solved the last issue, but almost immediately I have a different one on different bulbs, just in the same room.

Could it be voltage? I've no idea how to test that, but the kitchen hardware is about 20 years old, so it is plausibly not optimal. That said, it seems crazy to replace the whole hardware in the kitchen to fit bulbs—very expensive not to mention very strange behaviour to have bulbs, seemingly at random, not work with the app, but working as a regular bulb.

While I may not have provided much information, I'm hoping someone can offer some insights. Has anyone else experienced such temperamental lights, particularly MR16 connections? My goal was to simply have consistent colour bulbs (surprisingly hard to buy reliably off the shelf) and maybe, the ability to dim the lights in the evening. It was not to spend hours and hours mucking about with bulbs, trying to get them to work.

Cheers.

Does it cover conventional switch sockets?

Hi there,

I‘ld like to switch to a Hue light system at home. Currently we‘ve classical light switches. So I am looking for smart switches which can cover the old switches.

The one in the image is battery driven, which would be fine. Do you know if this wiuld cover the old switch‘ socket?

For my son‘s room I‘ld like to select a wall mounted switch, which uses the existing power supply. Do you have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance.
