I would love to find a maker space or somewhere similar that I can go to but it seems like everywhere I’ve found is closed due to the pandemic. Are there any places that are open to some degree that I could look into?
Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you guys know about a guitar building class we are having at TXRX Labs in September. It's a four day class where you will get to design and build your own electric guitar. If you've seen the Hydro-Dipping "Shamrock Shake" video, it was filmed at the lab during our last guitar class. Here's a link: https://apps.txrxlabs.org/classes/402/guitar-building/
I’m new to the Houston flea market scene and feel dizzy with options and disappointed by inconsistent market attendance. I’m hoping to create threads on Reddit for local vendors, artists, and makers to review markets they’ve participated in. So far I’ve done a couple Shop Local Market events at saint Arnold’s brewery (drastically inconsistent attendance), Fascination Street Flea (new market, low attendance with high hopes), Traders Village (very event specific audience), and the one on Navigation Blvd that’s on Sunday’s ($25 fee but made $20 the first time and $0 the second time). More comments coming related to each event, but overall I sense that event coordinators spend less time and effort and money on marketing than they should considering their revenue.
I am relocating to Houston, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a space/studio where I can build furniture. This is something I enjoyed when I had a full garage, but won't be able to do in a small apartment. I just need a place where I can cut/stain wood, use my power tools, and not bother anyone.
Any recommendations?
I need forty thousands machined off the end of a 5-1/4"diameter aluminum pipe that is about 1.5 inches long. Does anyone know of a machine shop that will do this small of a one-off job?
Happy Friday, this post is aimed at anyone with film making experince. Our business manufactures belt-fed machine guns from scratch, along with silencers and mounting devices. Our company is looking to expand our product offering and penetrate an emerging market but our process is being "bottle-necked" at the CAM stage. Our existing team is incredibly capable and experienced and we are using industry-leading software and equipment. We simply need another CNC programmer to lighten the workload of our team. Will be working with 4th axis VMC's and bar-fed live turning lathes. -Haas VF-4 w/ Renishaw Live Prob, live 4th axis -Haas ST-15Y w/ C-axis live tooling and auto bar feeder (inbound) -Solidworks Professional Edition 2017 -Autodesk Fusion 360 -CAMworks 2017 -GibbsCAM please private message if interested!
Hi, I am looking for someone who can design and build an interactive art installation using either processing or openframeworks. System consist of a camera and projector. Any references appreciated!
I have a certain glass design I want to create but I'm not a glass artist so I don't have the skills to do it. Does anyone have an idea where I'd find one(s)?
http://i.imgur.com/RTwaILZ.jpg I'm working on making a LED display, but I really need to get into designing and ordering laser cut materials. Anyone got some tips, tricks, warnings, hints, etc?
We are a furnace glass blowing studio out in Tomball. We are an open access studio so come check us out. We just reopened for our second year and we are excited to start. Here is a link to our website. We put on a public demonstration the first Saturday of every month. We offer classes and also 30/60/90 minute make-a-something experiences. The shop is only closed on Tuesday so feel free to stop by and check out our gallery and possibly see some live glassblowing.
The MakerBarn is under development west of The Woodlands off FM 2978. The web page may change but right now some information is at wiz.com.
The barn is on a home school campus. The founders have cleaned out the barn, are building walls on the first floor to insulate the building, and, on the second floor, adding walls and floor space.
Early membership at a discount will soon be available. Help with the build out would be appreciated.
Good to see this reddit. There are two spaces up north of Houston. One is Proto Makersspace (protomx.com) which is on I-45 where the Grand Parkway crosses. The MakerBarn is west of The Woodlands off 2978. I'll post more about the 'Barn in another entry.
Hey there! I'm into a bunch of the same topics we're likely all interested in here. I'm also a 3d printing addict and run my small 3d printing business: [ www.supersolid3d.com ]. I 3d print for a variety of folks around town and abroad, you can let me know if you have 3d printing needs! (printing, repair, help, etc...) Other than that, I'm into all things 3d, Arduino projects, digital fabrication and others.
I'm hoping this sub takes!
After gathering enough steam over on /r/houston, I went ahead and launched Houston Makers and am looking forward to getting my hands dirty with everyone else. As the days roll on we'll start adding more features and categories, including links to all of Houston's makerspaces, class schedules and upcoming events.
In the interim, please help fuel the flames. Introduce yourselves, your talents, ask questions, create meetups and feel free to promote your own spaces, products or services. Only rule so far is just to be respectful, let's make this a friendly place for hobbyist and professionals of any trade.
