Staying in the area for Christmas this year and am wondering if any restaurants will be serving dinner on Christmas? Didn’t find much info on Google except for Timberline Lodge and Riverside, which could be a solid options. Just wondering if I’m missing anything else. Thanks in advance!
I was just in Hood River for a few days. It seems like an empty shell of the fun town it was. So boring, and the food and beer scene hasn’t changed in ten years. What happened covid?
Thinking about moving to Hood River. Been a bunch of times, and it gorgeous. Just haven’t stayed long enough to see effects from the fire season.
How bad is it? How long does it usually last?
Organizing a group team building activity for coworkers in the area and having a tough time finding an appropriate venue. About 10 nerdy dudes in our 30s and 40s. An escape room or something like it would be great but open to other ideas. Thanks in advance
Where is a good place to see what hoodriver looks like at night. The only good one I know of requires some off roading.
Anyone have recommendations for restaurants that offer thanksgiving dinner that still have availability for 2 people or that are open in the Hood River area. Thanks
how are y’all storing your all-season/summer tires over winter? this is my first time having my tires swapped out and i’m a bit unsure of the best option. is it fine to just leave them in plastic bags and put them in an unheated garage? how clean should they be before leaving them? any advice is much appreciated!! thanks!!

Hey, Hood River reddit! I'll be hosting two shows this weekend at the Elk's Lodge. I know the saying is there's nothing to do at night in Hood River but this weekend we've got some amazing stand up comedy! Sam Miller, the headliner, is an absolute killer! Come see us!
Hey y'all, a friend & I (mid twenties) are looking for housing in the hood river area. We're hoping for a fully furnished place under $2,200. Is that attainable? Any other areas that would be suitable that works for seasonals working at Mt. Hood? Any info would be helpful, thanks in advance!
Welcome to La Nina, we're probably going to get a lot more snow and cold weather this year, and possibly earlier than the usual Christmas break timing. It's always a crapshoot but I won't be surprised if people are already hitting the mountain en masse by Thanksgiving. Stay safe on those roads folks!
Anyone know which fruit stands allow dogs?
My partner and I found out that our infant son has substantial, possibly complete, hearing loss. We are feeling all the feels but also wondering if there is any semblance of a deaf community or support here in The Gorge. We live in White Salmon.
Thanks!
I’m planning a friends weekend to HR in early Jan. We’re thinking we’ll go wine tasting, check out the society spa, and overall relax. Wondering 1- what area to stay in? I saw some great cabins in white salmon but is it better to stay downtown? And 2- any recommendations for other activities that time of year?
I just moved to the Parkdale/Mt Hood area and was wondering if there's any pickup basketball games nearby. I'm M28, not a super serious hooper just looking to run around and get a good sweat on!
Hi, I’m having a hard time finding who has karaoke on Friday or Saturday night in Hood River or surrounding areas. Thank you!
I’ll be moving to the area in a few months and am curious about the shore fly fishing opportunities available in the Gorge region. Since I don’t have a boat, I’ll be limited to fishing from the shore. Are salmon accessible by fly fishing from the bank? Is the primary focus on steelhead and trout?
Additionally, if you have any recommendations for a fly rod and reel combo suitable for targeting salmon and steelhead in this area, I would greatly appreciate it!
I am trying to remember this one particular bar/restaurant that I’ve been to…with essentially no info to go on besides the fact that they had turtle races every week. I think it was in Hood River but I don’t know that for a fact.
Does this ring a bell to anyone?
Hi all, I’m looking to rent a 3bed 2bath in the heights neighborhood. Very close to the hiking trail entrance. (7th street Indian creek trail)
Wonder what the market rate is for a house in that location might be?
Hi all! Husband and I recently moved here and are looking for places in town to watch the Ducks vs. Buckeyes game. We are a divided household (go Ducks!).
Greatly appreciate any and all recommendations
I grew up in HR, but after living for 5 years at university, coming back home feels real lonely. Now that I'm not in the school system, it's so hard to make new friends!
Love all things queer, spiritual, nature, food, art, sports, music, video games, etc.
Would really adore someone to make music with; I play the harp!
Let me know if you wanna connect!!! <3 I love meeting new people, especially those who are different from me! :)
Hello! My fiance and I are having our wedding in Hood River in July 2025. We have a hotel block but fear that there might not be enough rooms for everyone, and other hotel rooms near downtown Hood River during that time of year are already looking slim. We are wanting all of our guests to be able to enjoy themselves and drink and have a good time at our wedding and not ask that everyone drives on the winding roads near the venue. We already have schoolbus transportation taking the majority of guests to 2 locations near downtown Hood River.
So my question is, does anyone know of any sort of either transportation service, maybe even a local with a large van or something that might be able to help us out with driving the potential handful of stragglers to a couple different airbnbs/hotels that are a little further outside of the main hotels near downtown Hood River? If these prime location hotels/airbnbs fill up I'm thinking some folks might need to book a hotel/airbnb a bit further out. Of course we'd be willing to pay. Any info would be appreciated, thanks so much.
The story behind novus is unknown and I think people would be quite suprised by how it played out. I started at Andrew in February of 2024 and only about two weeks after I joined, Andrew and Melissa announced to all employees that they sold the business and ownership will change in July. We continued operating as usual up until the transfer. On July 1st, we had a mandatory employee meeting to talk about upcoming changes and to meet the new owners. Some was actually sounded pretty exciting. They planned on upgrading a theater and adding a bar where the kids room was. until this point, we still had no idea if we would see any significant changes immediately. The biggest changes day 1 was that there were no more deliveries, new POS and a new menu. Deliveries we all agreed was a poor business decision and we also lost a big source in tips, the new "menu" was literally just Hawaiian, Margherita and a meat lovers pizza. Our old POS system was old and outdated and did need an update but the new one was terrible. What really suprised me was that we would open the very next day. I expected it to be closed a few days or weeks to rebrand and launch a new business. They didn't bother to change anything except add the new POS and paint the walls. They sort've expected the customers from Andrew's to keep coming through which they never did. They didn't change the number so when people called, i would say "this is novus pizza" and they would hang up because they thought it was andrews. That is another problem. People either thought that Andrew's was closed forever and nothing was taking its place, or that they were completely unaware of the sale. There were a ton of small things similar to this that made our jobs harder and customers confused. After about 2 weeks, ownership expected sales to pick up by now because they assumed word of mouth would have kicked in by now and deadpool and wolverine would have a short boost in sales. We had FOUR tickets for Deadpool on opening day. Then, they started changing recipes. The pizza sauce was different and the dough was different. All of which we agreed was worse, especially the dough. To make it worse, the lady who made all these changes put her 2 weeks resignation in. 3 weeks in, our new boss lady was already leaving. I am unaware of her experiences with running a business but she was young and clueless the whole way. Things still weren't looking good and cost of labor was REALLY high. So the German lady (i forgot her name) asked our GM to cut down on labor. We had about 20 to 25 employees at this point so he had lay off about half the staff. But in the end it really didn't matter because the owners made a crucial mistake on the first day. Since novus was technically a new business, that means they had to get new food licenses and permits which...they did not. The health inspector came in one day and asked us to hand this to our boss lady who hasn't left yet to get this done by today. He emphasized that it was very important that they do this. I personally did not see this paper, but I'm assuming it was a cease and desist or a really large fine. That same night, we all got a message in our employee app that novus was closing, effective immediately. In summary, the new owners made many poor decision and skipped a vital step when opening a restaurant. There were so many more things but these were the significant problems that led to its closure. Just thought I'd share because nobody seems to talk about it or know anything about it. RIP Andrew's pizza

Tons of stuff 😅 like way too much
Hi all, moving from Portland to a small town on the Washington side of the Gorge. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for Wi-Fi. We won’t have access to fiber networks and while looking into satellite I don’t have experience with it. Any HughesNet/Viasat users, or other options worth looking into?
Anyone have a hairstylist they trust with their curly hair? Just looking for a cut, but if you’re a curly girl, you know it can be scary to go somewhere new 😂
I’ve never seen so many first responders in one place. They are all walking in the grass like they are looking for something. Whatever it is, it doesn’t look good. The highway is shut down. I hope those folks will be ok.
