Mainly looking for punk/alt rock/indie type influences. I'm a 21yo female singer, and my singing style is reminiscent of Hayley Williams/mitski/siouxsie (mezzo soprano). I write my own stuff and play a little bit of bass guitar too. I'll post recordings of me singing if this gets any interest 🫡
I visited Holland 1 week before tulip week in April 2024. Love your city! I went to the Vedlheer Tulip gardens and it was beautiful. I bought some hiacynths to be shipped to me in October 2024. I never got them. Veldheer has not responded. What do I do now?
Pretty much the title. I’ve tried googling and come up empty. The westbound lanes from the Zeeland exit to waverly or so seem totally done, so what’s the deal? Are they gonna chop more up and keep working?
I have to cross every day on 104th to detour and I haven’t seen any equipment or anything all week.
Greetings,
My family (on both sides) are of Dutch heritage from SW Michigan, I believe our earliest known Michigan forefather arrived at Macatawa Bay in 1847. Jacob denHerder. Maybe we're related?
A good 100 years later...we grew up eating our family's pigs in the blanket, but I see from posts here and related Holland articles, that my family's recipe is different. My mom's recipe never changed over the years (she was born in 1935), except she told me that she had to make up her own seasoning, because when she lived in Grand Rapids until the mid 60's, she would buy a seasoning blend from a local butcher. Then she moved to the Kalamazoo area, and had to come up with her own seasoning. Her pig was made most often of ground beef, but what I think what really seems different was her
dough: a yeast bread dough and she told me it should be just "slightly" sweet.
Are there any other Dutch family's around that make their family's traditional pigs in the blanket with a yeast dough?
And, what are the quintessential herbs/spices that should be in the pig? I believe we have probably strayed far from the original, having to "make it up" nowadays. Sometimes, I just mix ground beef with a country sausage. Then I fry up a patty, and adjust the seasonings to taste.
If any one has a specific yeast dough recipe that's been passed down, I would love to have it...and a seasoning mix, in particular would be very welcome!

It's a must for my special needs kid, and I don't want to book any tickets without knowing if there'll be a cafe car.
There's a big roll of fiber optic cable parked on Graafscaap near Christ Memorial. Has anyone received the Holland Fiber postcards, and where are you located?
Me and my fiance came to Holland last fall and were in love with it. We are wanting to come down during Christmas to see how the Winters are. We live in Kansas, and I was raised in Colorado, so we're a little used to the cold. We are both pretty set on moving there next year, and I just have a couple questions. I am a lead for a fabrication shop, and she's in early education. I've looked on indeed, and it seems that both those type of jobs seem to be around that area? Also, my brother is interested in moving there with us, so I want to show him how awesome it is, any suggestions for what I should show him to win him over? Thank you in advance!
I looks like a new taqueria is going in near Hungry Howie’s on the north side. Anyone have info on the place?
Hello, my mom’s friend’s brother just came from Holland to help support their mother. He’s in his 40s, barely speaks English, and is having a lot of trouble assimilating. We’re in metro Detroit, and I noticed that many members of the Dutch community in America live across the state. However, I can’t seem to find any bars, clubs, or places where I could recommend he meet people who speak Dutch while he adjusts to being here. Do you have any recommendations?
Hey y’all. I’ve been trying to make the dough for pigs in the blanket but I find it very wet and difficult to work with. It feels like I’m missing a step even though I follow the instructions. I’ve tried the recipe from the First United Methodist Church. Is the dough supposed to be this wet?
Recipe: 9 cups flour 2 T Baking powder 1 T salt 1.5 lbs margarine 3 eggs 3 cups milk
Mix dry ingredients, cut in margarine, mix in eggs/milk, mix by hand. Roll out on well floured surface. Cut into squares, stuff, fold, freeze
Hi there! 31M here. I used to play soccer in college but haven't played in a while. Looking to kick a ball around a bit. So anyone here want to kick a ball around anytime tomorrow morning? I've got a ball and a couple of options for locations to kick it around tomorrow morning (anytime between 8-12). Dm me if you're interested and we can work out the details! Cheers!
I've been going to my family's home in saugatuck multiple times per year since I was a kid; this is the first year we're doing the Douglas Halloween parade parade. Does anyone know some good pregame spots? I don't think the parade starts until like 10 PM but we're big believers in you can't drink all day of you don't start in the morning!
Celebrating a 40th bday with some friends in Holland next weekend. None of us are big drinkers. I have a running list, but would love to hear your ideas on fun things to do in the area. We’re all from out of state and willing to go to surrounding areas too.
Just starting? Peak? Past-Peak? Dead?
Looking for entry level welding work in or around town Tia
I would love a link to a list of candy for the nonpartisan section who aren’t in league with our own group of evil incompetents.
I’ve read through a fair amount of posts with different viewpoints and wanted to give my situation and see what everyone says.
My daily is a RWD sports car, and I’ve been thinking of getting a beater but I’ve decided on not going that route since I’d only be driving to and from work (About an 8 minute drive, no highways).
I’m from out of state and have driven in icy/slushy conditions, but never in packed snow. I’ve been getting conflicting information on how bad the snow really is, which is why I’m on the fence between getting Snow tires vs. Good all-seasons.
I’m okay with having to buy another set of tires down the road. My main worry is having to deal with winter tires when conditions aren’t snowy, if that even happens …
HAS ANYONE SEEN MY DOG!!??!!??
A tan colored but spotted dachshund. Please!! We all are terrified. I’ve been here before and it turned out badly and I have never been the same

Planning to visit Holland Michigan with my partner during the Thanksgiving weekend. Will stores and restaurants be open by end of November? Or is it not a good time to visit the place to get a whole experience

Anybody have a chance to get to their grand opening yet today? I'm hoping to get over there next week - thrilled to have an Indian restaurant in the area, I hope they're good!
I am looking for recommendations for a catering company. I have an open house style corporate event coming up in a month or so. It is on a Monday evening. I am looking for a handful of hot/cold appetizers, drop off/pick up, no staff service, disposable plates, no beverages, etc. Loosely 150-200 people.
I just received a quote for $45-60/plate which equals $9000-12000!!!
I am hoping that maybe there are some restaurants or more affordable caterers that I'm just not aware of since I am not local. Thanks in advance!
Hello! I am a Uni student currently studying in Champaign, IL. I think I will be visiting Holland around thanksgiving week to visit my old friend who is currently working there with bunch of others coming from different states.
I presumed that most of the stores would be closed around thanks giving, so I was thinking it would be nice to go to a nearby park/outdoor area for some barbecue. I asked my friend if he knows good places, but since he is an indoors guy he had no clue.
Are there any good outdoor BBQ spots in Holland?
Hi everyone! I’m moving to MI but can’t decide whether I should do Holland or Traverse City. I visited Traverse City a couple weeks ago & loved it, but I’m worried about the seemingly lack of people in their 20s. I’m 25 so want to have options to make friends in their 20/30s. I love all the outdoor activities, lake life, seasons, small town feel, etc. I also have a dog so the abundance of trails is stellar.
I’ve read through the pros/cons in this sub but am curious if anyone has a preference or insight into if there’s a big difference between the two cities other than Holland being a little bigger? I’m not worried about it being religious (I’m Christian) or the COL because I’m coming from a higher COL & also work remotely so the job market doesn’t affect me. I’m looking for a place to settle so any comments are appreciated. I’m also not dutch so not sure how much that affects living there haha. Thank you for any insight!!
I'm curious about which companies are hiring for first shift positions that don't require a degree. It seems like most manufacturers prioritize longer-tenured staff for those shifts rather than new hires.
